Here’s a unique cost saving application for thousands of properties nationwide.

Mike Hollohan of Custom Stone Manufacturing provided new kitchen flooring in a Houma Louisiana residence.

The product was a self leveling concrete applied 3/8 inch thick right over existing ceramic tile. The product used was Päram 5500 from düraamen

After the self leveling concrete was applied and cured, the floor was stained using DESO

Dyes in Salmon and Burlywood. Then the floor was sealed with a coat of Perdure A01 ( a solvent based acrylic sealer) to lock the dye, one coat of Perdure E32 (water based epoxy sealer) and finally one coat of Perdure U46 (water based polyurethane sealer).

The kitchen flooring project in Houma, Louisiana only took a few days. The finished result saved the owner thousands of dollars and countless hours searching for solutions to a potentially complicated project.

lümiere system applicationThe application of the Lümiere system involves the following steps:

1. application of primer The substrate is prepared per the guidelines given in the Düraamen technical

bulletin-1 and then one coat of the primer Perdüre E02 is applied with a short nap roller. The primer ensures maximum adhesion to the substrate and prevents outgassing and air bubbling in the finished system.

Perdüre E02 is a 100% solids, moisture-tolerant epoxy primer for concrete and masonry surfaces. It combines the properties of water insensitivity and good wetting properties. After the application of primer, it is allowed to cure for at least 6-8 hours before the application of Lümiere body coat.

2. application of lümiere a. Mixing I. Thoroughly mix each component separately prior to mixing with each other.

II. Mix 4 parts of A with 1 part of B by volume for three minutes with a low speed electric drill mixing paddle.

III. Do not mix more material that can be used in 30 minutes.

b. Application I. Pour material on the floor in a line and spread with a flat/notched squeegee or

trowel to a coverage of 160ft2/gal. to achieve a thickness of 10-12mil.

II. Back roll with a short nap roller to even the surface texture of the coating.

III. Allow material to cure for 14-16 hours before applying the second coat. Two coats are required unless a single coat is applied at least 18-20mil thick.

IV. Second coat (OPTIONAL): Mix and apply as before. If the second coat is back rolled, be aware that the roller pattern may be visible. While the material is still wet, lightly mist surface with dispersing agent (acetone or Xylene, etc.) with a sprayer to create special effects. Experimentation is necessary to determine how long to wait before spraying dispersing agent, based on such factors as temperature, amount of solvent, type of solvent, etc. Spray too soon and the epoxy will flow back to its original appearance. If sprayed too late the Lümiere will not be affected by the solvent mist.

V. The Lümiere is allowed to cure for at least 24 hours before the application of top coat.

3. application of topcoat a. Use Perdüre P70 for sealing the Lümiere system. Perdüre P70, 98% solids polyaspartic sealer is applied as a protective top coat

over Lümiere body coat. Perdüre P70 is a next generation aliphatic polyaspartic polyurea designed to provide high gloss, UV stable (non-yellowing), chemical and abrasion resistant protection. Perdüre P70 has very low odor and can be applied indoors in occupied areas.

Perdüre UMC is a three-component, urethane modified, cementitious flooring system formulated to withstand harsh and demanding environments. The Perdüre UMC flooring system is resistance to impact, abrasion, chemicals and thermal shock. A urethane (polyurethane) binder is combined with Portland cement and graded aggregates to deliver superior performance characteristics. This unique combination of urethane-cement and graded aggregates makes the flooring system resistant to high levels of moisture vapor transmission. It can be installed with an integral cove base for areas requiring a sanitary and seamless wall to floor transition.

In addition to being able to absorb and dissipate heat and cold, Perdüre UMC has excellent sound deadening properties, useful in areas where the operation requires trafficking with steel wheels.

Perdüre A03 is an acrylic emulsion formulated to

create a clear, non-yellowing, protective sealer. It

provides a tough UV and abrasion resistant film that

protects surfaces from moisture penetration, staining,

dirt, dust and wear providing a surface that is easy

to clean and maintain. Perdüre A03 is an excellent

choice for both interior and exterior applications. It

can be used to seal concrete, masonry, pavers, brick,

Saltillo tiles or any other cementitious surface.

Perdüre E32 is a two-part, water-based epoxy primer/

concrete out-gassing, Perdüre E32 has the ability to

be applied to recently poured (green) concrete and

achieve excellent adhesion.

Perdüre E12

With low odor and minimal health risks, Perdüre E12 is the ideal seal coat for regular concrete and polymer concrete overlays.

Perdüre U45 (matte finish) and U46 (gloss finish) are

high performance, two-part, water based aliphatic

(non-yellowing) polyurethane based top coats

(sealers) for use in a variety of seamless floor and

wall coating systems. They are free of the health and

environmental problems normally found in solvent-

based polyurethanes, while maintaining excellent

performance. Both are ideal for topcoats that require

high abrasion resistance.

Typical application areas are clean rooms, hospitals,

pharmaceutical facilities, acid stained concrete

surfaces and wood floors.

Perdüre U90

Perdüre U90 is a two-component, chemical resistant,

low VOC, ultra high solids aliphatic polyurethane sealer.

It is available in gloss and satin, clear or tinted finishes.

Perdüre U90 provides the performance characteristics

of solvent-based sealer with the ease of application

associated with water-based sealers. U90 can be used

to seal concrete, terrazzo, or other flooring systems

where high abrasion and chemical resistance is

desired. Typical applications include concrete floors or

walls in warehouses, storage facilities, retails stores,

aircraft hangars, animal housing, restrooms, vehicle

maintenance garages and numerous other facilities.

For additional wear and skid resistance, fine aluminum

oxide can be added.

Notes on Color Selection

The color chips shown are representative of a smooth trowelled finish. The top half of the chip is unsealed; the lower portion represents concrete sealed with a solvent-based clear such as Perdüre A01 and/or Perdüre AU52.

Concrete is a natural material. Sand, cement, and aggregate all vary in different regions and from different plants. Different finishing techniques, textures, sealers, water content, weather-related jobsite factors, and curing methods will affect the final shade result. Keep in mind that concrete color products are not paint products, where an exact match is always easy or even possible. The color chips shown attempt to represent the shades as closely as possible, but Düraamen Products cannot guarantee an exact match because of the factors mentioned above. Our recommendation is to always prepare a sample prior to final color selection.
