INTRODUCTION

ABOUT US ‘node’, according to the Oxford Dictionaries, is a point in a network or diagram at which lines or pathways

intersect or branch. It could be understand as a connection point. In communication networks, a physical

‘node’ is capable of sending, receiving, or forwarding information over a communication channel.

n Tang Hin, Node is the civil servant of our campus. Just like any other Student Union cabinets, we would

sincerely serve our fellow schoolmates once we are elected. However, we aim for higher, wider and more.

‘Communication leads to community, that is, to understand, intimacy and mutual valuing.’ Said the renowned

American psychologist and author, Rollo Reece May. As an essential part of the communication networks by

definition, Node aims to connect most Tanghinians together. Our cabinet would promote advanced

communications and interactions between every single one of us. Ultimately, ideas would bloom gloriously in

Tang Hin. Motivated and fuelled by the innovation, we, Tanghinians, would be able to found a harmonious and

enlightened campus.

ather than satisfactory performances and services, Node would provide the transcendent ones. Our cabinet

have the preparation, ability and ambition to finish the task. We promise we would never let our fellows

down.

OUR AIMS ode aims to strengthen the communication and coordination between the Student Union, Houses and

Societies. Our cabinet wishes to assist Houses and Societies in organizing activities in different aspects. This

would be achieved through bulk purchasing, advertising as well as providing advisor services to the communities.

Our cabinet would also actively invite societies to organize joint activities with us, flavouring the vast variety of

contents of the activities. Our cabinet wishes to let most students enjoy the fun within, and also to offer chances

to society committee members to gain experiences and thus improving the quality of activities.

ode also aims to reinforce the contact and cooperation between the Student Union and fellow schools in the

same or other districts. In the future, our cabinet would establish a joint school network with other schools

in the North Districts, facilitating the organization of joint school events. A cross-district joint school network

would also be formed with secondary schools in other districts. Our cabinet and our fellow schools would also

share a part of their welfares, providing students with numerous choices of welfares they would be interested in.

ode as well aims to promote the communication between our School and students, encouraging them to air

their views. Our cabinet hopes to help establish mutual understanding and trust between our School and

our fellows by increasing the interaction between the two bodies. Our cabinet would promote more and direct

means of communication with our School to our students, allowing them to express their ideas with ease. Our

cabinet wishes to found a harmonious and enlightened campus ultimately.

ast but not least, Node aims to cover the needs of students. Our cabinet learns some problems in our School

from the opinions of our fellow schoolmates. To provide our fellows with a wholesome, fascinating and

convenient school life, our cabinet would try our best to respond to all demands from students and fulfil our

schoolmates’ expectations.

SCIENCE DAY

BACKGROUND ommonly known, Science is one of the most popular subjects at our School. Many of our fellow schoolmates

are keen on exploring the unknown, yet fascinating scientific phenomena. Node would like to satisfy students’

curiosity, as well as to further increase students’ interest in Science. Therefore, the Science Day, in collaboration

with the Science Society, is introduced.

INTRODUCTION ode would cooperate with the Science Society to organize the Science Day according to the following details:

Date: October Monday

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 1.5 – 2 hours)

Venue: School

Expected participant: S1 – 6 students

Budget allowed: $600HKD

ctivities of 5 Science subjects, which are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information and Communication

Technology, and Mathematics would be held. A game counter as well as a brief exhibition would be available

for each subject in different classrooms. There would also be a main interactive activity for all participants called

‘Sticky City’ on the Science Day.

he main interactive activity ‘Sticky City’ is a sandbox activity in which groups of participants construct various

urban buildings or infrastructures with ice-pop sticks. The activity would be held in the Back Playground or

Covered Playground. In the activity, participants would be separated into groups of about 10. They cooperate

with each other to create structurally-sound building models using mainly ice-pop sticks. Other materials such as

rubber bands and duct tapes would be provided to the groups for the construction of their infrastructure models.

Tools including scissors would also be provided. All finished works would be combined as a city model.

tudents could decide the themes of game counters or exhibitions in advance. To offer suggestions, students

could fill in a form produced by the Student Union, and submit the completed form to one of the Union

committee members. Themes for different activity rooms would be chosen by the Student Union and Science

Society together according to the suggestions received. The most popular suggestions that are feasible would most

likely be opted.

C

A

T

S

Page | 9 2016 – 2017 Proposed Student Union Cabinet – Node

n case Node could not collect sufficient feasible suggestions from students, the following pre-defined themes

are prepared in advance and activities might be held according to the following on the Science Day:

For Physics, activities on the General Theory of Relativity, Hadron the particle collider, a tour about ‘particles’

or heat, ray and wave might be held.

For Chemistry, activities on half-lives of elements, industrial alloys, nuclear fission and fusion or elements

from the Space might be held.

For Biology, activities on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, genetic – incarnation of Angel and Devil, microscopic

lifeforms or prehistoric lifeforms might be held.

For Information and Communication Technology, activities on ancient computing technology, artificial

intelligences, the history and development of the Internet or the spread and payload of computer viruses

might be held.

For Mathematics, activities on Euclid’s Algorithm, counting infinity, calculus – history and mechanics or

huge numbers might be held.

n the Science Day, participants would first gather around at the School Hall for a brief introduction to the

activity. They would then proceed to participate in the interactive activity ‘Sticky City’. After the main activity,

participates could then visit any of our activity rooms that they are interested in. Mini-games and exhibitions would

be available in the activity rooms of different subjects. Participants would be free to visit or leave the rooms

anytime at will.

he Science Day aims to:

Increase students’ interest in Science.

Promote knowledge regarding science to Students.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

The expenditure might exceed the budget allowed. To cut down on the spending, recycled materials would

be used.

Student might not be interested in the content of the activity. Several announcements would be made in

advance to inform students the fact that they could choose what to do during the event. Activities of large

variety would be prepared according to the suggestions received.

There might be a lack of participants. To boost the event, effective propaganda on the event would be

performed in advance. Other Societies might also be invited to participate in the cooperative event, thus

offering further more interesting contents to students.

3D PRINTING WORKSHOP

BACKGROUND D printing is a newly developed technology that revolutionizes the manufactory industry. In 3D printing, layers

of plastic are extruded on top of each other. As a result, a 3D model is 'printed'. Though being fascinating and

satisfying, 3D printing requires some related knowledge from users. As some students might be interested in

creating their very own 3D figures, Node would organize an activity in collaboration with the Computer Society

to teach the participants how to '3D print'.

INTRODUCTION ode would cooperate with the Computer Society to organize the 3D Printing Workshop according to the

following details:

Date: November Fridays

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 1.5 hours)

Venue: G/F Computer Room

Expected participant: S1 – 6 students

Budget allowed: $750HKD

A fee of $50HKD would be collected from the participants.

he workshop would consist of 2 sections of courses. One of them would be used to teach participants how to

create a digital model for printing. The 3D creation and editing software used would be ‘123D Design’, a free

and simple-to-use software that supports most 3D printers. Although the freeware is not suitable for designs with

numerous arcs, its simple and clear user interface allows users to create mechanical objects with ease. Basic

editing functions would be introduced to participants during this section of course. The participants would be

invited to design their own 3D objects at home for printing.

he other would be used to explain the operation of a 3D printer. Before printing the actual object, a process

called ‘slicing’ must be done on the digital file of the design. The process generates a series of commands for

the 3D printer. Another freeware ‘Repetier’ would be used for the ‘slicing’ process. The software is also capable

of changing the settings of the 3D printer connected, which could prevent printing failures by some minor tweaks.

The above would be explained to participants during this section of course.

fter the tutorials, the participants could send the Student Union a digital file containing their 3D models. The

Student Union would print the objects and deliver them to their creators. The 3D printer used would be the

one provided by the Parents-Teachers Association in their 3D Printing Course. The printing filaments would be

purchased separately to ensure the quality of the printed objects. ‘Repetier-Server’ would be used to ‘queue up’

the printing tasks and calculate their estimated finish time automatically. A Student Union committee member

would be assigned to collect the printed objects at the estimated times.

D Printing Workshop aims to:

Let participants learn about the mechanics 3D printing.

Teach the basics of digital 3D creation to participants.

Help participants develop creativity and problem-solving skills through the course.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

The printing process might be interfered by mechanical errors, resulting in 3D objects with poor quality.

To ensure the quality of the printed objects, all the 3D figures would be printed in a slower speed.

Another 3D figure would be printed if necessary.

There might be too many participants. Participants would be selected randomly among the applicants if

this situation occurs.

FUN DAY

BACKGROUND econdary school life could be stressful. Teachers are often busy preparing for lessons, while our fellow

schoolmates have to deal with numerous examinations and assignments. Tanghinians need a good time to

escape from the tiring schoolwork and relax themselves. Therefore, the Fun Day is introduced to gather teachers

and students around and enjoy themselves.

INTODUCTION ode would organize the Fun Day according to the following details:

Date: November

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 1.5 hours)

Venue: School Hall

Expected participant: S1 – 6 students

Budget allowed: None

Teachers would be invited to the event.

arious events would be included in the Fun Day. Interactive activities such as Talent Shows and Guessing

Games would be held on the Fun Day. Teachers and students would be sincerely invited to the event.

un Day aims to:

Delight students and teachers stressed by study or work.

Enhance the relationships between the two bodies.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES To avoid possible problems or difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

The safety of the activity is one of the concerns. Therefore, committee members of the Students’ Union

would help monitor the activity. The Students’ Union would also seek assistance from the Prefect Team.

The content of the activity might be dull for students. To ensure students could enjoy the activity, opinions

on the activity would be collected from students before the organization of the Fun Day.

SUBJECT ELECTION SHARING

BACKGROUND ome junior form students might find subject election confusing, or they might have difficulties in deciding

which subject to study. The decision cannot be made blindly as it affects one’s future career much. Careful

consideration must be made in advance. Unfortunately, most junior form schoolmates lack experience to make

such important decision. The Subject Election Sharing is therefore suggested to help these students with their

subject election.

INTRODUCTION ode would organize the Subject Election Sharing according to the following details:

Date: January

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 1.5 hours)

Venue: Lecture Theatre

Expected participant: S1 – 3 students

Budget allowed: None

enior form students or possibly some DSE candidates of our School would be invited to the Sharing. The guests

would share their opinions or views on various subjects. The content of the subjects would also be explained

to the junior form participants. A question session would also be available in the Sharing for junior form students

to raise questions about the details of different subjects.

rganizing the Subject Election Sharing aims to:

Resolve any doubts on subject election from junior form students.

Help the participants understand more about various subjects.

Assist the junior form students in choosing a suitable career path.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

The DSE candidate guests might not be available at the moment. Teachers might be invited to be our

guests instead to introduce various senior subjects to the participants.

There might be too many participants. Only S2 – 3 applicants would be selected eventually to prevent an

excessive number of participants. Booklets with brief information of different subjects would be

distributed to the unselected S1 applicants.

TEACHER-STUDENT FOOTBALL COMPETITION

BACKGROUND ther than the PE Day, our fellow schoolmates seldom have the chance to enjoy a good match with teachers.

An activity has to be organized to offer the desired relaxation and entertainment to both students and

teachers. Football, as known by many, is an extremely heated sport that is not only fun, but it also has a high

demand of teamwork, communication as well as sportsmanship. Football is the ideal sport for a teacher-student

event, and therefore the Teacher-student Football Competition is introduced.

INTRODUCTION ode would organize the Teacher-student Football Competition according to the following details:

Date: January weekdays

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 2 hours)

Venue: School Football Pitch

Expected participant: S1 – 5 students and teachers

Budget allowed: $300HKD

Teachers would be invited to participate in the competition.

tudents are allowed to form teams on their own, but each team must consist of 6 – 7 members, and one of

them being teacher. They should then sign up for the competition by filling in and submitting a form to the

Student Union committee members. The upgrading match system would be adopted in the competitions. To

ensure the impartiality of the competition, 3 – 5 judges would be present during the football matches.

rganizing the Teacher-student Football Competition aims to:

Provide relaxation and entertainment to teachers and students.

Promote teamwork, communication and sportsmanship to teachers and students.

Enhance the relationship between teachers and students.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

Bad weather might be encountered. The matches would be postponed to a day when the weather

condition is suitable for a football game.

There might not be enough participants. Therefore, the Student Union would strengthen the promotion

of the activity and possibly postpone the competition for the sake of more participants.

GUIDE DOG LEARNING DAY

BACKGROUND

uide dogs are responsible for guiding their owners who are suffering from sight deficiency through journeys.

Despite their loyal service and astonishing guiding ability, guide dogs are not known by many of our fellow

schoolmates. Since some students are interested in guide dogs, Node would like to introduce the loyal and

reliable pet helpers to our schoolmates. We hope our schoolmates can have a wider knowledge of guiding dogs

and try to be more alert to the visually impaired.

INTODUCTION ode would cooperate with Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association to organize the Guide Dog Learning Day

according to the following details:

Date: February

Time: Afterschool (Approximately 1.5 hours)

Venue: Lecture Theatre / School Hall

Expected participants: S1 – 5 students

Budget allowed: $800HKD

KGDA would send 2 – 3 staffs, 1 – 2 trainers, a user and a guide dog of their association to our School,

presenting the slideshow and inviting the user to present their own experience to our students. The slideshow

might include the introductions of HKGDA, such as when the association was established, why they have this idea,

et cetera. Students would know more about the association, learn more about guide dogs, as well as facts about

the blind. It is difficult for students to imagine a life without sight. By inviting visually-impaired guests and their

pet partner to share their experiences, participants would be able to have a brief understanding on the life in

which you cannot imagine.

he planned run-down is shown below:

1. A brief introduction of HKSDA

2. Learn more about guide dogs

3. How to live with visually-disabled people

4. Sharing of the user

After the sharing, the user would also show the participants how the guide dog could help them walk like a usual

person on the road. The introduction of HKGDA and guide dogs might take a half-hour, while the user sharing and

demonstration session might take another half-hour.

computer, projector and microphones would be prepared in advance by our School. Whether or not the

guide dog would be scared is not a concern, as the HKGDA has confirmed that the guide dog is well-trained.

Guide dogs are pet helpers that are trained and specialize in guiding the visually-disabled through their travels.

They are significantly more disciplined and obedient than pet dogs. There would also be trainers looking after the

guide dog. Possible safety problems caused by the guide dog would be avoided.

Page | 17 2016 – 2017 Proposed Student Union Cabinet – Node

olding the Guide Dog Learning Day aims to:

Help students learn to get along with pet dogs.

Let students learn more about the visually-impaired.

Raise students’ awareness and care of the disabled.

s a follow-up activity, a game called Life Line would be held after the talk. Node would like to let students

have a primary feeling of being blind. Participants would be separated into 5 groups, and each group would

contain 10 – 15 participants in the most ideal condition. We hope this follow-up activity could deepen the students’

feeling and a more insightful reflection might be resulted.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

HKGDA cannot show us how they train their guide dogs, as the training requires more guide dog mobility

instructors to look after the guide dogs. However, HKGDA cannot send too many instructors to our

School. Participants might be less satisfied with the Learning Day.

The talk might be delayed because the guests come from different regions. They might encounter traffic

problems when they are on the way to our School.

The visually-impaired guest might not be available at the moment. A volunteer of the association might

be invited instead to take care of the guide dogs. This might decrease the interest of the students and

they possibly cannot what the Learning Day aims to teach.

FAI CHUN SALES

BACKGROUND unar New Year is a traditional Chinese festival in which people gather around and celebrate the beginning of

a year. During the festival, people decorate their homes with pieces of ‘Fai Chun’, usually a sign of fortune and

prosperity. Everyone is contained with joy during Lunar New Year, except, sadly, the less fortunate. Earning only

a hand-to-mouth living, these unfortunate citizens could not afford to share the delight of Lunar New Year. To

help raise money for the less fortunate to celebrate the festival just like everyone else, Node suggests holding

the Fai Chun Sales, which could raise money for the people in need.

INTRODUCTION ode would organize the Fai Chun Sales according to the following details:

Date: February weekdays

Time: Lunch breaks (Approximately 45 minutes)

Venue: School Entrance

Expected participant: S1 – 5 students and teachers

Budget allowed: None

ode would invite teachers and students to make Fai Chun together for sales. Committee members of the

Student Union would then be assigned to set up sales counters at the School Entrance and sell the hand-

made Fai Chun. All profit earned would be donated to local charity organization.

he Fai Chun Sales aims to:

Promote harmony between teachers and students.

Share the festival joy to everybody.

Raise money for the less fortunate.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

The sales of Fai Chun might not be as good as expected. To avoid such situation, numerous and effective

propaganda would be performed in advance.

In case hoarding occurs, the committee members of the Student Union would purchase the remaining

Fai Chun with their own money. The money would also be transferred to the charity organization.

JAPANESE WEEK

BACKGROUND apanese culture is extremely influential in most parts of Hong Kong, including our school. Many of our students

are interested or enthusiastic in Japanese history, fashions, soap operas, ‘animes’, et cetera. Yet, there are still

many astonishing Japanese cultures for students to discover. Our fellow schoolmates might not be familiar with

these minor details within the dazzling Japanese culture. The Japanese Week is therefore suggested to promote

these curious Japanese cultural features.

INTRODUCTION ode would organize the Japanese Week according to the following details:

Date: March weekdays

Venue: School

Expected participant: S1 – 5 students

Budget allowed: $1750

n the Japanese Week, a vast variety of activities would be held. For instance, game counters or different

workshops would be held. Competition regarding Japanese culture would also be held. The planned schedule is

shown below:

ay 1 – Do-it-yourself Omamori Workshop

Time: After school (Approximately 1.5 hours)

Venue: Activity Room

Omamori is one of the traditional accessories in Japan. The word ‘mamori’ (守り) means ‘protect and defend’.

And ‘O’ (御) is a honorific word which means ‘respect’. Students could craft their own Omamori themselves.

Therefore, the Omamori Workshop would be held to teach students how to craft and customize an Omamori,

which could be attached to our schoolmates’ pencil case, school bag or phone for blessing or decoration.

ay 2 – Film Show: Kano / Moshidora

Time: After school (Approximately 2 hours)

Venue: School Hall

Baseball is one of the most famous sports in Japan. The sport is so popular that it has even become a Japanese

culture. To introduce such renowned sport in Japan to our schoolmates, a Japanese movie about baseball would

be played in a film show for students. Kano or Moshindora would be presented in the film show.

ay 3 – Japanese Traditional Dessert Making

Time: After school (Approximately 2 hours)

Venue: Activity Room

Traditional Japanese food is known to be very popular among Tanghinians. It is already so good to enjoy a good

Japanese dish, while it is even better to enjoy a self-made one. In the Workshop, participants would be taught

making 1 – 2 simple tradition Japanese dessert for enjoyment.

J

Policy Proposal Page | 20

ay 4 – J-pop Song Playing

Time: Lunch break (Approximately 45 minutes)

Venue: School

In English Week, English songs are played during the lunch time. This activity is widely-welcomed by Tanghinians.

Similarly, there would be a song-playing session in the Japanese Week. However, Japanese songs, particularly

pop-songs, would be played instead. While the Student Union would decide what song to play, students are

welcomed to submit their opinions to us.

ay 5 – Anime Drawing Competition

Deadline of Submission: 1 – 2 weeks after the Japanese Week

Anime is perhaps one of the most popular form of Japanese culture among students Therefore, the Anime

Drawing Competition is introduced for our anime enthusiasts. While all qualified submissions would be presented

to our schoolmates on notice boards, prizes would be awarded to works with outstanding quality. Through this

event, students could improve their drawing skills and develop confidence.

eedbacks or opinions on the Japanese Week would be collected from our schoolmates afterwards. The

establishment of Japanese Culture Society would be considered if Node receives a significant number of

positive feedbacks.

rganizing the Japanese Week aims to:

Promote Japanese culture of different aspects.

Enhance students’ interest in Japanese language and culture.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

Students might think the Japanese Week is similar to the English Week, and think the Japanese Week is

dull in content. Effective propaganda would be performed in advance to let our schoolmates learn about

the unique, and various activity content of the Japanese Week.

Since any similar events have never been held before, a lack of experience in the organization of the

Japanese Week is expected. To prevent any flaws in the activities held, similar events organized by other

schools would be used as references.

There might be a lack of student helpers, especially helpers for game counters. To ensure the successful

organization of activities, enough helpers would be invited in advance.

TEACHER-STUDENT FORUM

BACKGROUND s the respectful leader of our School, our dear Principal, Mr Lau, would always deliver a speech in the Prize-

giving Ceremony after the Final Examination every year as a review of our accomplishments within the year.

However, as a part of Tang Hin, some of our fellow schoolmates eager to learn more about our campus. Students,

as the major of the Tanghinian community, should be concerned with our School affairs. Therefore, a chance for

them to voice out should also be given.

INTRODUCTION ode would organize the Teacher-student Forum according to the following details:

Date: July

Time: During the Prize-giving Ceremony

Venue: School Hall

Expected participant: S1 – 5 students and teachers

Budget allowed: None

Our Principal, Mr Lau, and teachers would be invited to the Forum.

ime would be reserved in the Ceremony for our schoolmates to air their views. They might ask for the

significance of some school rules, suggest improvements or reflect opinions on some school policies. Our

Principal and teachers would be sincerely invited to respond to students.

he Teacher-student Forum aims to:

Offer a chance of direct communication between our School and students.

Deepen the basis of trust between our School and students.

Build up a harmonious, cheerful campus.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

Students might not be very active in the Forum. To prevent lack of content, our schoolmates would be

invited to suggest some questions anonymously in advance. The Student Union might represent the

anonymous students and ask the questions during the Forum.

There might be too many questions from students. To prevent overrunning the time arrangement of the

Ceremony, only a few questions would be selected in the Ceremony. An extra session of the Forum would

be hold later on if possible.

BACKGROUND hroughout the year, there are always some treasurable and unforgettable memories. While some of our

fellow schoolmates wish these delightful moments could be archived and cherished, some desire to share

the joy with others. As a rewind of our school year, the Student Union Journal would be published and distributed

to students to briefly summarize the cheerful times in the academic year for our fellow schoolmates.

INTRODUCTION ode would publish and distribute the Student Union Journal to students for free. The content of the Journal

includes but is not limited to:

Activity rewinds and highlights: A collection of the best moments in several activities organized by the

Student Union expressed in photos and words. In such way the remarkable experiences of our

schoolmates could be archived.

Interviews: Articles about different members of our School. The Student Union would interview our

campus members and write articles to introduce them so that our schoolmates could get to know our

School more. Node has planned to interview Mr. Brian, our new foreign English teacher, and our school

janitors.

Memoirs: A collection of the daily lives of our dear teachers and students. Students’ time spent with

their fellow schoolmates would be saved for their own cherisher. Our former English teacher Mr. Lee

has agreed to share the 1C memoir to all Tanghinians via the Journal.

00 copies of the Journal would be published. A total of $2700HKD would be used to print the Student Union

Journal.

ublishing the Student Union Journal aims to:

Help students preserve cherish the wonderful memories.

Help students have better understanding on our School.

HOUSES & SOCIETIES SERVICES

BEVERAGES PURCHASING

BACKGROUND sually, beverages are served during different events held by Houses and Societies. The communities often

need to spend much money on purchasing beverages for numerous participants, ending up in unpleasantly

high expenditure. Therefore, Node would provide bulk beverages purchasing service to Houses and Societies to

reduce the financial burden on the Houses and Societies.

INTRODUCTION ode would provide beverages purchasing service at a lower price to Houses and Societies. Houses or Societies

in need could apply for the service 2 weeks before an activity would be held. The committee member in

charge of the activity should fill in an application form and submit it to one of the Student Union committee

members in person. After confirmation, the Student Union would supply the beverages to the Houses or Societies

at a price of $1.5 – 1.7 per drink, which is lower than the suggested prices at stores.

he beverages would be purchased directly from the wholesalers. The prices of wholesaled products are

significantly cheaper than those of products available in outlets. The beverages could therefore be purchased

and supplied to Houses and Societies at lower cost.

roviding beverages purchasing service at a lower price to Houses and Societies aims to:

Reduce the operating cost of Houses and Societies.

Help Houses and Societies conserve resources for organizing more activities.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

In case the bulk-purchased beverages could not be delivered, the Student Union would purchase the

required drinks from stores. The beverages would still be sold to the Houses or Societies at the lower

price, and the Student Union would pay for the exceeding price.

There might be insufficient student helpers to transport the bulk-purchased beverages. A van might be

hired to help transport the goods. The Student Union would pay for the van.

UNIFIED PROPAGANDA

BACKGROUND ome Societies organize high-quality and interesting activities, but unfortunate they suffer low participation

rate. This might be due to insufficient or ineffective propaganda for the activities beforehand. The Student

Union has significantly more resources and reaches than Societies, so the Node would utilize such advantage to

help promote Society activities.

INTRODUCTION ode would provide effective propaganda service to Societies. First, the notice board outside the Student Union

Room would be open for all Societies. Societies could advertise their activities by posting posters on the

board. The Student Union committee members would remove the poster from the board after the activities have

been held.

econd, Societies in need could request for assistance from the Student Union a week before an activity would

be held. The Society committee member in charge of the activity should fill in an application form and submit

it to one of the Student Union committee members in person. The details of the activity could be sent to us along

with the form or via the Tang Hin Gmail. The Student Union would proceed to promote the activity via its Facebook

page and Instagram account.

nified propaganda for Societies aims to:

Help Societies promote their activities.

Boost the reputation of Societies.

Effectively provide various activity information to students.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

The notice board outside the Student Union Room might be completely occupied. When this situation

occurs, the notice board next to the Lecture Theatre would also be open for posting.

It is possible that too much propaganda would be posted on the Student Union Facebook Page and

Instagram account in a short time, resulting in ‘flushing’ of older promotion posts. This would be resolved

by promoting the activities for multiple times to ensure they could reach most people.

COOPERATIVE ACTIVITIES

BACKGROUND ome Societies are unable to organize large-scaled activities due to limited resources. For example, they might

not have enough helpers for these activities. It is also said that some society activities are too dull in content.

Node would like to bring our fellow schoolmates society activities with greater variety, and thus assisting Societies

in organizing cooperative activities.

INTRODUCTION ode would invite Societies to organize joint activities with the Student Union. The Student Union would

actively invite Societies to organize activities with us. The Union would share resources with the Societies in

cooperation. The resources would include but not be limited to:

Student helpers

Propagandas

Venues

ode would also be glad to provide Societies with useful advice as reference if requested. Some society

committee members might be less experienced, and might not completely understand the organization of

activities. A part of the Student Union committee members, however, are experienced in the related aspects.

They would be able to offer useful advice to Societies and therefore improve the society operations.

rganizing cooperative activities aims to:

Raise the popularity of society activities.

Attract students to take part in the activities with enriched contents.

Help society committee members acquire experiences in activity organization.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid any possible problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

If the demand for student helpers is too intense, the maximum number of student helpers available for

borrowing would be temporally limited to avoid lack of manpower.

The Student Union might not be able to coordinate with Societies. The Societies could opt to postpone

the activity until all the details are settled, or to organize the activity themselves. The Student Union would

still provide assistance if necessary.

STUDENTS SERVICES

LENDING SERVICE

BACKGROUND ome students might experience unfortunate situations due to forgetfulness. For example, when the weather

becomes cool suddenly, students leaving their sweaters behind might catch a cold. It is also said that travelling

outside during rainy days is clumsy without proper rain gears. To help these unlucky students, Node would lend

various commonly used items to them.

INTRODUCTION ode would lend commonly used items to students. The items available would include but not be limited to:

Clothing items: Sweaters

Rain gears: Umbrellas, umbrella covers

Stationaries: Calculators, protractors, staplers, paint brushes, water colours

Others: Hot pads, cool pads, towels, hair dryers, takeaway lunch menus, Mopiko

Before borrowing items from the Student Union, students must register on a record book. By doing so, the school

could monitor the number of times students lend items from the Union. Students might be accused of abusing

the service if they borrow too frequently from the Union. The school could give a warning to the student, and the

student would also be banned from using the service again.

n order to maintain a stable supply of the items available, the following measures would be carried out:

Our School graduates often claim that they cannot put their old school uniforms to good use. Node would

suggest our graduates donate their unused clothing items to us.

It is also notable that there are many lost items remained unclaimed in our General Office. Instead of

trashing the items or donating them to the charity, Node would suggest the General Office donate due

lost items to us.

ending service aims to:

Avoid wastes of unused items by lending the items to students in need.

Assist students in clumsy situations.

Make students’ school life more convenient.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

The items available for lending might be insufficient. If the problem of lacking in items become too

intense, the Student Union would purchase the insufficient items.

Some students might refuse to return or lose the items they have borrowed. If the situation happens on

a student occasionally, the Student Union would ban the student from using the service to avoid further

losses of items.

SELLING SERVICE

BACKGROUND ome students do not prefer buying from outlets outside our school. A part of our schoolmates think that the

stores are too far away from them, making travelling to these stores very inconvenient and time-consuming.

Some think that the items for sales in these outlets are too expensive for an ordinary student. To save both time

and money of our fellow schoolmates, Node would sell a few necessities to students at school, and at a lower

price.

INTRODUCTION ode would sell commonly used items to students. The items available would include but not be limited to:

Clothing items: White socks (only available in Summer), grey socks (only available in Winter)

Stationaries: Pens, correction pens, pencils, erasers

Others: Stamps

The items would be sold to students at prices lower than the suggested prices at stores. The Student Union would

assign committee members to be on duty at the Student Union Room to sell items to students during lunch breaks

and afterschool every day.

he items for sale would be purchased directly from the wholesalers. The prices of wholesaled products are

significantly cheaper than those of products available in outlets. The items could therefore be purchased and

sold to our schoolmates at low cost.

elling service aims to:

Assist schoolmates in reducing their expenditure on necessities.

Assist students in clumsy situations.

Make students’ school life more convenient.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

There might be insufficient student helpers to be on duty at the Student Union Room for the items sale. The service might be suspended for a day every week until new helpers are recruited. This is to prevent the decrease of our service quality.

The sales might not be as good as expected. To maintain the popularity and income of the service, the Student Union would lower the prices of items or provide extra promotional items to costumers in order to attract students to buy from the Union.

LOCKERS FOR MORE STUDENTS

BACKGROUND urrently, the demand for lockers of students is quite large. Some of our schoolmates complain that they have

to carry many heavy textbooks around. They hope our School could reserve more rooms for lockers, and

loosen up the application for lockers. Node have therefore come up with several ways to increase the number of

lockers available to students.

INTRODUCTION ode would suggest our School increase the number of lockers. Currently, the lockers are placed opposite the

washrooms on the 3/F and 4/F. According to our measurement, there are still sufficient space to place one

more row of lockers while reserving enough area for the corridor. With the increased number of lockers available,

Node would also suggest our School loosen up the application for lockers in order to benefit more of our fellow

schoolmates.

emporary application for lockers would also be available to students in need. Students with physical health

issue (such as intense waist injury) certificated with doctor’s paper could now apply for lockers temporally.

Temporary locker users are required to return their lockers within 2 days after their recovery.

elaxing the application for lockers aims to

Relieve the physical burden of students.

Reduce the health risk of neck and shoulders of students.

Fulfil the expectation of students in need.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

If our School could not make the above changes, Node would suggest our School adjust the timetables of

students. For example, students might only be required to have lessons of 4 – 5 subjects each day, thus

reducing the number of textbooks they have to bring.

Even with increased number of lockers available to students, the huge demand for lockers might still not

be fulfilled. The Student Union would attempt to convince the less needed students or Societies to give

up their lockers for others.

BICYCLES PARKING

BACKGROUND he former Student Union Cabinet Darestep have carried out the same policy, and it was widely approved by

students. Cycling to school is beneficial to students not only because it is convenient and free of charge, but

it is also good to students’ physical health. Riding a bicycle to school is currently not popular among students,

however, because some might find parking their bicycle difficult. To resolve this problem, Node suggest our

School provide us with a space for parking students; bicycles.

INTRODUCTION ode would suggest our School set up bicycle parking spaces for students. According to our observation, it

would be feasible to open the space outside the Janitors’ Room for bicycle parking. The bicycles parked inside

the school should be completely safe from thieves and damages, unlike the ones parked outside.

n order to ensure security, however, students must register on a record book every time they park their vehicles

inside our School. The school could then be able to refer to the actual record in case of missing bicycles. Also,

bicycles are forbidden from entering the school during rush hours. This is to avoid possible traffic congestion or

accidents. The suggested definition of ‘rush hours’ is after 08:00.

n order to fully utilize the spaces reserved for bicycles parking, the parking spaces would not be available to

students unless there are at least 10 applicants for the service.

etting up bicycles parking spaces aim to:

Encourage students to cycle to school.

Assist schoolmates in reducing their traffic fee and time.

Relieve the physical burden of students.

Reduce the health risk to neck and shoulders of students.

Fulfil the expectation of students in need.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

The proposed area for bicycles parking might not be enough to deal with the demand of students. The

Student Union would suggest our School open more space for bicycles parking. For instance, the area

near the backdoor of our School might be opened.

NO MORNING ASSEMBLY ON HOT DAYS

BACKGROUND o protect students from illness due to extreme weather, our School has always been cancelling morning

assemblies on very cold days. Besides, to help students avoid suffering any heat-related illnesses, our School

has been actively encouraging schoolmates not to wear sweaters outside air-conditioned areas. However, similar

policy has not yet been adopted on morning assemblies during hot days. Being exposed in intense sunlight for a

long time could cause heatstroke and dehydration, both of them being possibly fatal. To avoid such health risk to

students, Node would advise our School cancel morning assemblies on hot days.

INTRODUCTION ode would suggest our School cancel morning assemblies when the Very Hot Weather Warning is hoisted. It

is advised that when the Very Hot Weather Warning is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory before 07:00 –

08:00, the morning assembly on the day should be cancelled. Identical to the arrangement during rainy or freezing

days, students would return to their homeroom directly and listen to announcements via school broadcasting.

esides the cancellation of the morning assembly on hot days, prize-giving ceremonies and speeches would

also be postponed when the temperature of the day is too hot. This is to prevent the possibility of students

getting heat stroke due to being exposed to the Sun for a long period.

ancelling morning assembly on hot days aims to:

Protect students from sickness caused by hot weather.

Reduce health risk due to heat illnesses to students.

Let student be more refreshed for lessons.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following measures would be carried out:

There might be too many morning assemblies cancelled due to the common hot weather. The required

temperature for cancelling the assembly might be raised to prevent the above situation

NEWSPAPER RECYCLING

BACKGROUND iles of outdated newspaper could always be seen in classrooms. It is said that our schoolmates have nowhere

to discard these trashes. They cannot but stockpile them in their own classrooms. However, this act is not

environmentally friendly as paper is made of wood, which is a valuable resource from Earth. To help students

with the garbage problem as well as conserve paper for the environment, Node would promote newspaper

recycling at our school.

INTRODUCTION ode would set up a newspaper recycling bin outside the Student Union Room. Similar to the existing ‘Green

Poster Paper’ bin outside the School Library, students could put their unwanted newspaper into the container.

The discarded newspaper would be collected by the Student Union committee members every week. The collected

newspaper would be sold to local recyclers. Any money made through this process would be used by the Student

Union to improve our services provided to students.

n order to encourage our schoolmates to recycle newspaper, a credit system would be adopted. The more

newspaper recycled measured in weight, the more credits the student is awarded. Schoolmates could use their

credits to trade for items such as stationaries from the Student Union.

he container used would be a large open crate with wheels, similar to the existing container used for recycled

poster paper. A crate of large volume could contain a good amount of newspaper while the wheels attached

on the crate facilitates easy transport of the container.

etting up newspaper recycling bin aims to:

Help students discard unwanted newspaper.

Avoid wastes of paper by recycling them.

Keep classrooms tidy.

Reduce the workload of our Janitors.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES n order to avoid potential problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans would be carried out:

If the recycling bin are often found to be full before being collected, committee members of the Student

Union would collect the newspaper every 1 – 2 days. This is to clear the container for other newspaper

to be discarded.

There might be too much newspaper waiting to be discarded. Cardboard boxes would be used together

with trolleys to temporally contain the exceeding newspaper.

T-SHIRTS ORDERING

BACKGROUND lass-tee is not only a piece of clothing worn in the Music Contest, but also the signature of a class. It represents

the spirit and the unity of the class, and is highly memorable. The same applies to other T-shirts like Society-

tee. However, some students might not know how to order T-shirts. The ordering could also be costly if only a

small quantity of T-shirts is purchased. To help students obtain the meaningful T-shirt with ease, T-shirts ordering

service is introduced.

INTRODUCTION ode would provide T-shirts ordering service to students. The service is not only limited to Class Unions for

the ordering of the ‘class-tee’, but also to all students. For the ordering of ‘class-tee’ in December, forms

would be distributed to all Class Unions. If interested, the Class Union representative could fill in the form. A

counter would be set up for a period of time to collect the forms. If other students would like to order T-shirts like

the society-related ones, they could download the form from us, and submit the form in person. The design of the

T-shirt could be sent to us via the Tang Hin Gmail.

o hopefully help students enjoy a lower purchasing price, which is around $30 – 60 per T-shirt, the clothing

would be ordered in bulks if possible. Therefore, non-class T-shirts would not be ordered unless there are at

least 200 student requests.

roviding T-shirt ordering service aims to:

Reduce the difficulty for students to order T-shirts.

Provide low-cost and quality T-shirts to students.

Strengthen the unity of students.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES o avoid possible problems and difficulties, the following contingency plans will be carried out:

The clothes shop might not be able to produce numerous T-shirts in a short period of time. The Student

Union would confirm with the shop in advance. Earlier application for T-shirts would be required for

students if necessary.

COVERS OUTSIDE THE STUDENT UNION ROOM

BACKGROUND henever it is rainy outside, our fellow schoolmates find going to the Student Union Room inconvenient, or

even clumsy. The Room is located on the terrace on the 1/F, which has most of its area covered. The

shaded area, however, does not include the service counter of the Student Union Room. This limits students from

accessing to the Room for purchasing stationaries or borrowing items during rainy days. To tackle this problem,

Node suggests our School cover the mentioned area with addition canopy.

INTODUCTION ode would suggest our School extend the cover between the Students’ Union Room and the corridor on the

1/F. The canopy existing is not enough to completely connect the Student Union Room and the corridor on

the 1/F. Students could not visit the Room and purchase necessities when the weather is rainy. In order to resolve

the problem, Node would purchase an additional canopy to shade the exposed area.

he canopy used would be purchased at approximately $800HKD. The Student Union would use its own budget

to buy the canopy. The canopy would be installed in front of the Student Union Room service counter.

overing the service counter of the Student Union Room aims to:

Help students access to the Student Union Room on rainy days.

Make students’ school life more convenient.

SCHOOL SYSTEMS

STUDENT SUPERVISOR COUNCIL

BACKGROUND he Student Union is elected by all Tanghinians. It is the Union’s duty to serve every single one of our fellow

schoolmates faithfully, and as much as possible. To help the Student Union maintain the quality of their

services, the Student Supervisor Council is established by our School. Yet, the Council is not known to many

students. Without any opinions or pressures from students, the Student Union might work behind closed doors.

As a result, the policies adopted might be unsuitable, or even unsatisfactory to students. In no way our

schoolmates should tolerate a Student Union with inferior performance.

herefore, promotion of the Student Supervisor Council is suggested. As an officially approved organization,

the Council have the right and ability to directly give suggestions to the Student Union, as well as to impeach

unqualified Student Union. Given appropriate students’ thoughts and pressures, the Student Union would more

likely be able to maintain their services to top-notch.

INTODUCTION ode would suggest our School increase the transparency the Student Supervisor Council. As an organization

composed of students, our fellow schoolmates should have access to the details, functionalities and

structures of the Council. Node would advise our School to post the related documents on the notice board of all

classes. The Student Union would also suggest for improvements on the Council according to the officially released

information. Our proposal is shown below:

he Council would be composed of all Chairpersons of the Class Unions. It would be responsible for monitoring

the operation of the Student Union, and providing advice or suggestions to the Union.

f any of the Student Supervisor Council members would like to provide suggestions to the Student Union, they

could fill in an official form produced by the Student Union. The completed form should be submitted to one

of the Student Union committee members. Improvements on the performance of the Student Union would be

made according to the advice given. Class Union Chairpersons are advised to discuss with their classmates before

submitting the suggestion form.

mpeachments on the Student Union could also be initiated by any of the Student Supervisor Council members.

The target could be an individual committee member of the Student Union, or the Union itself. If necessary, the

Council member could fill in an official form produced by the Student Union, and submit it to one of the Student

Union committee members. The Union would organize a vote for the impeachment at school within the next week.

Support from 75% of the voters is required to successfully impeach an individual committee member or the

Student Union. For any successful impeachments:

If the target is an individual member, the impeached individual would be retired immediately, and a new

committee member would be chosen within the following 100 days. The candidate must be approved by

at least 50% of all voters before they are recognized as a member of the Student Union.

If the target is the whole Student Union, the Union would be retired after a buffer period of 2 weeks. If

such situation happens within the 100 days after the Student Union election, the voted Student Union

Cabinet would replace the impeached one to be in charge of the Student Union operation. Otherwise,

the 4 Houses would be responsible for handling the Student Union affairs.

Class Union Chairpersons are advised to discuss with their classmates before initiating any impeachments.

stablishing the Student Supervisor Council aims to:

Raise the political efficacy of students.

Promote active participation in school affairs of students.

Promote civil education regarding democracy to students.
