It's not likely that the people who once used Polaroid's Instamatic cameras are the company's future, not least of all because they're currently well into their 50s. Their kids, however—also known as Generation Y—are squarely in Polaroid's viewfinder. Its GoPro-chasing $99 action camera, the Cube, was the Minnesota company’s first—and, it says, highly successful—bid for younger consumers. Next up: a mobile, wireless printer that spits out wallet-size images without using ink cartridges. Like the Instamatics of yore, the bulk of the technology is built into the paper.

That’s largely where the similarities end. The simple, clean, white pocket-size printer, dubbed Zip, is

reminiscent of a younger icon—a first-generation iPod—and it is the first of Polaroid's mobile print-

ers that works on iOS. Polaroid once again enlisted the help of the San Francisco industrial-design

firm Ammunition, responsible for the Cube and and led by Robert Brunner, a former Apple designer.

POLAROID'S PLAN TO GET MILLENNIALS TO PRINT THEIR PHOTOS

BRING INSTAGRAM INTO THE REAL WORLD WITH THE POLAROID ZIP INSTANT PRINTER

CES 2015: POLAROID’S PORTABLE ZIP PRINTER OFFERS FAST, INK-FREE PHOTO PRINTS FROM ANDROID OR iOS.

Bringing the essence of classic Polaroids into the modern era with minimal hassle

As with Kodak, the move towards digital photography wasn’t kind to Polaroid, but under new stew-ards, the company has made some interesting moves. And the Zip is its latest.

Polaroid’s Zip mobile printer is a compact, ink-free way to print a photo from your iPhone or Android phone, and it appears to be an updated version of the PoGo printer from several years back, although it's currently unclear if the changes are more than skin deep.

You’ll use Polaroid’s app - which has an array of editing tools and filters - to get the photo wirelessly to the printer via Bluetooth or NFC, and the image prints out within 60 seconds. It’s a throwback to the iconic and utterly classic cameras Polaroid produced in its heyday, and in more ways that one. Here, it’s all about the paper, which has cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes built in that are activated when the printer heats up. The result is a quality, smudge-free print - and better yet, no need to re-place cartridges.

People love Instagram because it brings that “vintage” Polaroid-era look to your digital photos. But what if instead of instantly applying a filter and sharing to social networks you could in-stantly print the photo with a real filter? That’s exactly what you can do with the Polaroid Zip.

The Polaroid Zip connects to both Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth. Once connected you can use the companion app to print any photo from your phone. The photos print out in 3×2-inch rectangles. With the companion app you can add filters, frames, stickers, and more. The paper used by the Zip is made of dye crystals which get heated up to reveal the desired colors. It’s crazy fast and crazy cool.

The Polaroid Zip will be available this spring for $130. Check out the video below to see how fast the printer works.

THE POLAROID SOCIALMATIC HAS BECOME A REALITY IN THE CES 2015.

The Polaroid Socialmatic arrives. This new instant printing and digital camera gives you the pos-

sibility to print and share images.

Polaroid made official the launching of the Polaroid Socialmatic at the CES 2015 as was ex-

pected. Most has been said about this camera which lets us print and share images instantly.

With a vintage design that evokes the Polaroid emblematic logo, the camera fuses technology

with fashion, individuality and society and creates a social network of prints and posts, making it

easy the 360 degrees off/online experience.

The Polaroid Socialmatic runs with Android, a LCD touchscreen of 4.5 inches for an easy naviga-

tion, and a LED sensor for low light settings. It has 4GB of internal storage and expandable

memory with a Micro SD card.

Did you love the photo you just took? With

Polaroid Zip Mobile you can print it immedi-

ately no matter where you are.

Print any photo from your smartphone with

the new Polaroid Zip Mobile.

Polaroid has presented a new device that will

enchant those fanatics who love taking pic-

tures with their smartphones. Its name is Zip

Mobile Printer, an easy to carry printer that

allows you to print any image from a

smartphone.

With a light weight and small dimensions it is

possible to take the printer wherever when-

ever. It works with a wireless system and

with a free Android and iOS app where users

can capture and choose the image they want

to print. The dimensions of each print is of

2x3 inches.

According to Scott W. Hardy, the president

and CEO of Polaroid, smartphones are part of

our daily lives, users commonly take pictures

and share moments with it. Even though it is

possible to share images in social networks

there will always be a necessity and value in

sharing moments physically.

“The new Polaroid Zip mobile printer doesn’t

just streamline and simplify the process it

makes it as much fun as sharing an image

online. That’s why we’re excited to bring the

Polaroid is alive – also in the digital era

Back then pictures were taken with a

small camera that came out of the box

with a fizz. What an innovation, be-

cause after 2-3 minutes an image be-

came visible. No more film rolls had to

be handed in and also waiting for 24 or

36 (2-4 were always poor looking) pic-

tures had vanished. Today the company

still exists – but what are they doing

today? A look at the product portfolio

answers this questions immediately.

But one product is outstanding and one of the highlights at this

years CES.

The name is “Polaroid Cube Mini Lifestyle Action Camera” and the

name says it all. This is the tiniest and lightest Action Cam that will ac-

company your life. My personal highlight of this product is the fact that

I can attach the Action Cam to any metallic surface where it sticks to

because of an integrated magnet. Perfect for certain kinds of record-

ings. The tiny Action Cam is compatible with microSD cards with up to

32GB. The technology allows video recordings with up to 1080p and

takes pictures with a clear 6MB lens.

Polaroid Zip: Mobile instant printer in pocket-size

With the Zip“, the American company Polaroid has presented a

new mobile instant printer at the CES 2015. Via an app it is possi-

ble to instantly transfer pictures from a smartphone directly to the

mobile printer and print them out.

Who does not know the old instant cameras by Polaroid which

could instantly print out snapshots on the specially prepared pa-

per? Since smartphone era, pictures are immediately transferred

digitally or presented on the high resolution displays. One could

think that the market for portable photo printer has been disrupt-

ed. However, manufacturers still launch new models. This indi-

cates that there is still a certain demand. It seems like Polaroid

also has this point of view and presented with the “Zip” a new

mobile photo printer.

Due to its small size (7.5 x 12 x 2.5 centimeters) and a weight of

186 grams, the Polaroid Zip is extremely handy. With the instant

printer one is able

to print pictures on

the 5.1 cm x 7.6 cm

full-color photo

paper on the way.

Pictures are trans-

ferred via an app

for iOS or Android

using Bluetooth or

NFC. Before printing pictures can be edited in brightness, contrast,

color saturation and also filters can be applied. The printing tech-

nology which is used for the Polaroid Zip is pretty impressive be-

cause it does not need any ink. The patented printing process

called “ZINK / Zero INK” only needs special photo paper which

already include dye crystals. Not before the printing process these

crystals are “activated”. The integrated lithium-ion battery is capa-

ble to print up to 25 images – afterwards the device has to

plugged-in again.

FUTUREZONE – TECHNOLOGY NEWS

LIVE REPORT FROM CES

TECHNOLOGY JUNKIES

Android instant camera Polaroid Socialmatic tested

Polaroid’s digital instant camera is based

on Android and is able to print pictures

instantly on the E-Zink-paper. Futurezone

took some test images.

The Polaroid Socialmatic is certainly one

of the most curious products that one is able to test at the CES 2015.

The camera with the square design not only is equipped with a full-

functioning Android system, but also prints pictures instantly on E-Zink-

paper. The technology does not require ink but only the specially pre-

pared paper.

The quadratic format with Instagram looks appealingly funny and is

outstanding. If you take the camera in your hands, you do not think that

it is a functioning device. The haptics are more of a toy than a camera.

However, this is not to be valued as a bad thing. The body and the con-

trol buttons do not appear fragile, but high-quality and durable.
