Poland (Polish: Polska), officially the Republic of Poland (Rzeczpospolita Polska), is a country in Central Europe. Poland is bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east; and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north. The total area of Poland is 312,679 square kilometres (120,726 sq mi), argest in Europe. Poland has a population of over 38 million people, which makes it the 33rd most populous country in the world.

It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1596, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Kraków from 1846 to 1918, and the capital of Kraków Voivodeship from the 14th century to 1999. It is now the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

Zabrze (German: Hindenburg O.S.) is a city in southern Poland. Zabrze is part of the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union, the largest legally- recognized urban entity in Poland with a population of 2.2 million. The population of the urban area is 3,487,000. Zabrze is situated in the Silesian Voivodship (since 1999; previously, it was in Katowice Vioivodship (1975 - 1998).
