Poker = Texas Hold ‘Em?Poker is a sometimes simple, sometimes complex game played player-against-player, where the general object is to make a better hand than your opponent. While poker is generally considered one game, more specifically it refers to one of hundreds of play variations, each with the same general object of the game. Texas Hold ‘Em is one of the most popular poker variants played in homes, clubs and casinos around the world and as such, for purposes of this Event Guide ‘poker’ will refer to the Texas Hold ‘Em variation of the game.

How a Tournament Works1) Your guests receive a pre-determined amount of chips (usually 2,000) to play in the tournament.2) Play begins for all players simultaneously. 3) If the players run out of chips during the event, they are eliminated from the tournament, but if preferred, we can allow players to return to play one more time if they lose all their chips (“re-buy”) within the first hour, at your discretion.4) Play continues and as players are eliminated from the event, the number of active tables is reduced. The number of tables used in the event will eventually get down to one – the ‘Final Table’5) The last players with chips at the Final Table are declared the winners. The very last player remaining is the Event Champion and would win the Grand Prize, if you’re offering one.

Tournament FormatsThe two general tournament formats are:

Knockout TournamentsThis is the most common format, which can accommodate any number of players from 2 to 1,000 or more. The event starts with up to 10 players at each table. During the course of the event, players will win chips from the other players at their table. Once a player runs out of chips they are eliminated from play

and must leave the table. As player counts dwindle, tables are consolidated one by one until there is one Final Table. The winner of the tournament is the last man standing at the Final Table, with all the available chips in his possession. The next to last person eliminated is the runner-up, the person before is in 3rd place, and so on.

Shootout Tournaments Less common, but works best for specifcally sized fields between 60 and 100 players., or for events with strict time restraints. This event starts with up to 10 players at each table. Play continues at all tables until there is one player left at each table, who advances to the Final Table and play until there is one player standing.

Tournament PrizesWhile we handle virtually every aspect of poker tournaments, we leave the choice and expense of what to give as prizes - or whether or not to award prizes at all - entirely up to you. In Poker Tournaments, prizes typically go to those who make it to the Final Table and are proportional in size for the winner, runner-up, 3rd place, etc. We’ve seen prizes as small as bottles of wine given away at some tournaments, and prizes as large as computers or even motorcycles given away at others. We can, however, give guidance on what would be appropriate gifts for your group if needed.

We’re Here For You!21 Nights Entertainment organizes Poker Tournaments and much more! Many of our competitors take a hands-off approach to arranging tournaments, quick to hard-sell you on the exact same event package they offer everyone else, only to have little if any contact with you until event time. Not us!

Every event is different, and we treat them that way! We help you every step of the way - from any preliminary event meetings until the last guest has left for the evening. We design customized casino themed events that match your organization and your guests perfectly! Frequently Asked QuestionsHow many poker tables will we need?

For a Poker Tournament you’ll need one table for every 10 active players at your event. For 50 players you’ll need 5 tables. For 100 players, 10 tables. It’s that easy!

How far in advance should we set the date for our event?

Public and semi-private events with the best player turnout have been planned at very least 8 weeks in advance (3-6 months is more common). For private events with a known guestlist (e.g. a corporate holiday party) 3-6 weeks is generally fine.

How far in advance should we book with 21 Nights Entertainment?

We book on a first come, first served basis. It’s recommended that you book once you know the date of your event and have your event venue secured.

We’re getting an overwhelming response to our event! Is there any way we can expand the event by adding tables?

Absolutely! If you could let us know as soon as possible (at least 10 days prior) we can add tables and staff, subject to availability.

We’re getting an underwhelming response! Is there any way we can shrink the event?

Yes! Poker tables that are too empty look bad for both of us! To reduce the number of tables for your event after booking, let us know as soon as possible (at least 10 days prior) and we will make it happen, subject to availability. Cancellation fees, reduction limits, additional terms and conditions may apply.

OK, what’s the next step?
