Award winning artist, Blade, is presenting this workshop to show how easily colored pencils render on black paper. You will learn basic techniques used to apply colored pencil to black paper. Hopefully you will experience how much faster colored pencil on black paper can be! There will be paper and a project provided just for you. Things you will need to bring: Prismacolor Premium colored pencils work best for this project or whatever creamier pencils you have. I do not know what colors exactly, but be sure to include: white, green(light, medium, dark), indigo blue and some pastel colors of yellow, blue, pink, or lavender. This will be a loose project, so any colors can work. Bring ALL your pencils if you wish along with the usual tools: pencil sharpener, kneadable eraser, soft brush, etc.. You may want to bring a light, as the library lighting has much to be desired. See you at the meeting! Blade What's Up For October's Meeting

Happy Fall! I want to take this opportunity to sayHELLO to everyone and introduce myself. My nameis Karen Jones and I moved to San Diego with myhusband and disabled daughter almost two yearsago from living in Murrieta for twenty five years. Ouryoungest daughter (we have two) is away at college(Point Loma Nazarene University). My husband and Itaught at Murrieta Valley High School (yes together)since 1992. I have a Master’s in Education,Bachelor’s in Liberal Studies and minors in Englishand Art. It was a true family affair with both of ourdaughters graduating from there as well. Wedecided it was time to downsize and make a change.Downtown San Diego it was and we LOVE it!

I retired a few years back to care full time for ourspecial needs daughter and it was at this point mypassion for art was renewed. I’ve drawn and paintedsince I was a kid. My hobbies are many andALWAYS include art in some form: baking, decorating, gardening, dog grooming, crocheting, knitting, sewing, embroidery, remodeling, and the listjust goes on. I work in graphite pencil, watercolor, mosaic, woven arts, remodeling, and even built a logcabin in the mountains. While I dabbled in a bit of many mediums over theyears, my talent has shown itself to lie in coloredpencil. It just comes naturally for me and it isportable! Practice DOES help. The saying “drawsomething every day” works. I will gladly share someof my earlier pieces, only in the past two years havemy drawings taken a turn for the better.

I look forward to getting to know each and every oneof you and building this chapter. Thank you all fortrusting me with this position.

I’m eager to connect with you,Karen
