SCHEDULED AT YOUR CONVENIENCE

“GOOD DESIGN IS GOOD BUSINESS”

This course will provide an overview of the meaning of the Thomas J. Watson quote: “Good design is good business.” Learn about the definition of design as it exists in business today, and how a company can utilize it to achieve measurable business goals. How can you integrate all facets of good design as a company may see them, in order to gain cumulative benefits?

COLLABORATION & CREATIVITY

Beyond the buzzword, what is the potential, and the pitfalls of collaboration? What does it mean creatively? How do you prepare people to collaborate effectively? How can an entire company build a truly collaborative culture across the organization?

COMMUNICATION AUDITS

How can your in-house department periodically assess its output, what are the metrics that matter, what analysis processes work best, and how do you present these findings with clarity and credibility to the rest of the organization?

CUSTOM WORKPLACE TRAINING

LEVERAGING YOUR BRAND

Your company has a brand, whether you acknowledge it or not. What is the role of your design team, in-house or out, in stewarding your brand? How does your design department engage all the stakeholders influencing the brand, and keep that dialogue productive? Is your brand position clear for all audiences, what does it mean to stay on message, and how do new products or services get added while maintaining a strong brand?

THE BRAND DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

This course will survey the most commonly used steps to create, build, migrate, and/or revitalize your brand. Understanding the types of brand architecture and strategies, will aid your design team in stewarding your brand successfully. You will learn how to utilize branding as a simple framework in addressing marketing communications issues.

BUILDING VENDOR PARTNERSHIPS

Your company, whether it has an internal capability or uses external creative resources needs to make sure vendor relationships are as effective, efficient, and accountable as possible. This means understanding the processes and outcomes involved, clarifying roles, agreeing to metrics to be used, and seeing that real value exists for all parties concerned.

We develop custom courses or team building experiences for your business in areas

like innovation, leadership, computer software, websites, design, and much more. Call

616.451.2787, x1139 with your ideas, and we’ll help you find the right fit for your needs.

See examples below and on the following page.

KCAD Continuing Studies instructors have the real-world experience to give their students

insights that will change the way they think about their own potential. Workshops will be

taught by professionals most appropriate for your company needs.

NEW! CREATIVITY MANAGEMENT

Does your team understand how creativity works? Break through to the cutting edge, by supercharging team members to produce better ideas and create the discipline to turn those ideas into innovation. Learn the latest techniques for producing ideas that are more powerful, interconnected, and appropriate for your needs. Tools learned in this workshop can last a lifetime.

Creativity Management will be taught by T. J. Aitken, B.F.A., Eastern Michigan University. As a design director for a Fortune 300 company he developed, and holds patents on award winning training materials for understanding design and craftsmanship. His concepts of analysis have been studied in “Modeling Customer Perceptions of Craftsmanship in Vehicle Interior Design” at the University of Michigan. T.J. has done hundreds of workshops on innovation and production with more than 4000 engineers and industry leaders. His materials have been translated into several languages for workshops in Japan, Korea, China, Germany and the UK, and he has presented his findings at numerous conferences.

DIGITAL STRATEGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Starting from scratch, you’ll find an authentic brand voice and tone, and from there explore which tools to utilize to build a creative media campaign, focusing specifically on social media. You’ll learn the basics of setting up goals for success and how to report them, choosing what social media channel to use, and how to craft the perfect post. From idea to reality; figure out how to build your brand, and, more importantly, compel your audience to care about it. Move past just theory, and develop action points to create and carry out a smart, successful digital campaign. Bring a current brand project idea (real or fictional) to the first class.

Digital Strategy and Social Media will be taught by Chris Emmer. With more than ten years’ experience in the industry, Chris Emmer has a uniquely fresh and relevant approach to digital media. Beginning her career in graphic design, Emmer followed her passion of smart communication from a boutique West Michigan Design studio, to a global agency in the Swiss Alps, to a leading digital agency in downtown Chicago, working on prominent brands such as Dodge, Marlboro, Disney, Hyatt, and McDonald’s. She specializes in small business and developing smart, human-centered brands that interact with their audience, rather than barking at them. Emmer also teaches at Baker College.
