Purpose

The suspended sediment sampler is for manually taking of point integrated samples in rivers, canals and reservoirs.

Introduction

The bottle sampler is a point-integrating device. The current practice in most states of theIndian Peninsula is to use the “Punjab” bottle sampler for measuring suspended load. Thesampler is designed for rivers with suspended load almost exclusively composed of washload, with no or little coarse and medium particle size fractions. The measurement procedurewith this instrument is described in several documents, though no real standard procedureseems to be adopted. There are no clear or uniform guidelines for adopting one or anotherprocedure on the basis of the flow and the sediment characteristics of the river at themeasurement section.

Conditions & Requirements

• The sampler shall have a streamlined body.• No bolts or other parts, other then for taking the sample, shall protrude from the body.• The sample shall remain intact while hoisting the sampler.• The sampler shall have a well established and proven correction factor.• Spares and tools required for routine maintenance shall be part of the delivery.• The standard list of spare parts needed for one year operation shall be listed and
