Tordo (turdus)Tra i migratori quello pi tipico dei paesi mediterranei, dove presente in diverse specie dalle abitudini sostanzialmente simili. Il volo varia notevolmente a seconda delle situazioni ambientali e cos ledifficolt di tiro: lineare nelle rotte di trasferimento dai quartieri notturni alle pasture, il tordo presenta un volo ricco di evoluzioni e velocissimo nella discesa ai luoghi di pastura (oliveti, frutteti, grandisiepi), mentre assume frullo veloce e quasi raso terra se scovato da cespugli, siepi e macchia mediterranea.Thrush (turdus)This migratory bird is the most typical in the Mediterranean countries, and it may be found in a variety of species, all sharing similar habits. Quaglia (coturnix coturnix)E' l'unico migratore appartenente alla stessa famiglia del fagiano e della starna ed e' presente in tutti i continenti con sottospecie diverse. E' considerato il selvatico ottimale per l'addestramento e ilperfezionamento del cane da ferma. Allo stato selvatico un forte pedinatore, che frulla solo sotto ferma di cane: la traiettoria di volo, veloce e piuttosto lineare,parallela al suolo, puo' rendere il tiro problematico per il cacciatore che deve sempre tenere ben presente la disposizione sul terreno dei cani e di eventuali compagni. La velocita' di volo e ladimensione contenuta del selvatico rendono preferibile la risoluzione sul primo colpo e pertanto la scelta di una munizione molto veloce e con rosata di ottima densita'.Quail (coturnix coturnix)This is the only migratory bird belonging to the same family as the pheasant and the partridge and it may be found throughout the continent in a variety of subspecies. It is held to be the best game fortraining and tuning up pointers. As game, it often hops, flapping its wings only when set by a dog. It flies quickly and in a rather straight line but parallel to the ground, thus creating potential shotproblems for the hunter, who must always take into account the presence of dogs and possibly humans on the land. Di abitudini gregarie, la stanasi incontra solitamente in brigate di 6-12 individui, difficili da avvicinare, ma che tendono a non allontanarsi mai molto, nonostante ripetuti spostamenti in volo, dalla propria area di residenza. Il tiro impegnativo sia per la velocit di volo che per la distanza, di raro ravvicinata, data ladiffidenza e lottima vista dellanimale. Anatre minori (alzavola, marzaiola, moretta) e folagaTra le anatre, che, per comodit, definiamo minori per la taglia piccola, troviamo anatre di superficie e anatre tuffatrici, che, al di l delle diverse abitudini alimentari e etologiche, sono accomunate dalvolo veloce, ricco di improvvisi scarti ed evoluzioni nella discesa verso i richiami (vivi o artificiali). Si calcolano punte di velocit che superano i 100 km/h, ovvero circa 27 metri al secondo! Esistono,tuttavia, alcune differenze di comportamento di cui il tiratore deve tenere conto: le anatre di superficie come lalzavola e la marzaiola saltano dallacqua in verticale offrendo un bersaglio sostanzialmentefacile e a distanza costante, mentre le tuffatrici come la moretta e la stessa folaga si sollevano con lentezza allontanandosi, pedalando sul pelo dellacqua per i primi metri. La folaga, a sua volta, fa caso as quando compie lunghi voli lineari di spostamento: il passaggio sulle poste avviene spesso a distanze limite, rese ingannevoli dalla sagoma nera dellanimale (che appare pi vicino e lento del reale) erichiede anticipo notevole nel tiro. Nella scelta della munizione occorre sempre tenere conto della probabile distanza di tiro, dellumidit dellambiente e della stagione che rende il piumaggio dellanimalepi folto e che pu condizionare, con temperature molto basse, il rendimento di alcune polveri.Minor ducks (green-winged teal, garganey, tufted duck) and cootsAs far as ducks are concerned, which for conveniences sake we shall here call minor due to their smaller size, we find surface ducks and divers. Although these may show different ethological and feedinghabits, they share the common denominator of quick flight, featuring many sudden lurches and changes during descent towards decoys (live or artificial). Peak speeds have been recorded to exceed 100 km/h this being approx. 27 metre per second! There are some behavioral differences between the various species, and the hunter should take these into account: surface ducks, such as the green-winged teal andthe garganey, leave the water vertically, constituting an essentially easy target and one at a constant range; divers, such as the tufted duck and the coot, rise slowly and gradually move into the distance, skimmingthe water and pedalling for the first few metres. The coot is in a category of its own when it comes to long linear flights: it often passes over the hunters stand at maximum range, the creatures black outlineeasily deceiving the shooter (it looks closer and slower than it really is), thus being a shot requiring considerable lead times. When choosing ammunition, both the likely shot range and the environmentsdampness and the season should always be taken into account. The latter aspect makes the ducks plumage thicker and may, at very low temperatures, affect powder performance.

Lunica specie tuffatrice tra le maggiori il moriglione e il suo comportamentoin volo si distingue: sollevandosi dallacqua lento e pedala sulla superficie per decollare, mentre nella discesa sugli stampi velocissimo, al pari delle anatre minori.Germano reale, canapiglia, codone, mestolone e fischione hanno in comune lalzata dallacqua con volo verticale, lineare e intuibile, mentre vi sono alcune differenze nellavvicinamento alle fonti dirichiamo: il codone assolutamente lanatide pi sospettoso, capace di volare ad ampi cerchi concentrici attorno lappostamento mantenendosi al limite di tiro, mentre il fischione il pi gregario, sensibileal richiamo acustico, diffidente se in branco, ma capace di scendere sullacqua in poche alate da altezze vertiginose se singolo. Il tiro alle anatre maggiori richiede prontezza, calcolo dellanticipo edesperienza nel valutare le distanze (la forte colorazione dei maschi di codone, mestolone, fischione e germano pu ingannare!), onde evitare di ferire lanimale con tiri eccessivamente lunghi. La munizioneottimale deve garantire alta penetrazione, volume di piombo considerevole e performance fino a distanze attorno ai 40 mt.Major ducks (mallard, gadwall, pintail, shoveler, European wigeon, red-headed wigeon)These are ducks larger in size (more than double in the case of the mallard and the gadwall) in comparison to the minor ducks. The only diving species among the majors is the red-headed wigeon, and itsbehaviour during flight sets it apart from the others: it lifts itself from the water slowly and skims the surface pedalling to take off; it is as swift as the minor ducks when pitching in to decoys. The mallard,the gadwall, the pintail, the shoveler, and the European wigeon all leave the water by linear, predictable vertical flight. Instead, there are a few differences when they approach a decoy: the pintail is undoubtedlythe most suspicious anatide, often flying in wide concentric circles around the cover whilst remaining at maximum range. The European wigeon, on the other hand, is the most gregarious.
