From The Deputy Principal - Darren Ball

Term 2 has started and there is a definite change in the weather. As the weather cools, it is important that students are comfortable and warm, but also in full school uniform. I’d like to remind students and parents that the uniform shop is open on Mondays and Thursdays. Now would be a good opportunity to get any warmer items students may need over winter.

I was very excited on Friday to be present at the launch of the Aboriginal Language Nest here in Lightning Ridge. Languages are a passion of mine and this opening will be an important milestone in the revitalisation, maintenance and advancement of the learning pathways for Gamilaraay/Yuwaalaraay/Yuwaalayaay language and culture. I look forward to the reestablishment of the language classes beginning in Stage 4 (Years 7 & 8) at Lightning Ridge Central School, when staff have been appointed, hopefully beginning Term 3 this year.

The school has recently made some changes in relation to leave passes. Leave passes will now only be granted at Lunch times, and only with written notes signed by parents. This is to ensure the safety of all students at the school. I look forward to your support of this this policy and welcome any feedback you may have in relation to the changes. The next P&C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 13

th May at 5:00pm.

P&C would be an excellent forum to raise any suggestions you have for continued improvement at our school. I look forward to seeing you there.

The uniform shop is pleased to announce that we are now taking

orders for the NEW LRCS winter jersey.

All students from Year 9 to Year 12 are invited to order or

purchase these hardwearing, long lasting, value-for-money jerseys.

A $35 non-refundable deposit must be paid at the time of

ordering.

The uniform shop is open

Monday and Thursdays,

8:30am to 9:00am.

ONLY $65

Hello and I hope the term is going well for you!

Last term ended with sixty three students completing the LRCS Reading Challenge and by now

you should have seen the blue recording sheet for Term 2. There are spare copies of this in the

library if you need them. ES1 (Kindergarten) start the Reading Challenge and have a note

explaining what to do. Most important thing is to hand your completed recording sheet to the

library by Thursday 19th June. We have a party to celebrate and it is lots of fun.

Books in Homes is happening again for Stage1 this term. The catalogues have been sent home

and you are most welcome to come and view the books in the library. We receive a copy of each

book. Books will presented at a special Book Giving Assembly later in the term.

Best wishes for a great Term 2,

Penny Fahey

Lightning Ridge Central School Swimming Achievements

Early this year eleven students represented Lightning Ridge Central School at the Regional School Swimming Carnival which was held in Armidale. Congratulations to Brooke Brown, Sean White, Lachlan Johnston, Chris Jones, Tallulah Chesworth, Emily Walsh Morris, Ava Seaton, Lilia Taylor, Savannah Chesworth, Charlie Taylor and Maddyson Tooth who participated on the day and swam extremely well. All students represented our school proudly. As a result four LRCS students, Maddyson Tooth, Lachlan Johnston, Tallulah Chesworth and Charlie Taylor, qualified for the NSW Primary Schools State Swimming Carnival held at the Sydney Aquatic Centre, Homebush. This is a great achievement for these students and they should be proud of their accomplishments having competed against the top swimmers from across the state. Congratulations to all students who have participated in school swimming events this year. It is a fantastic result to have so many students representing our school and community at representative level.

Mandatory Technology Food

During Semester One Year 7 students have an assessment task about designing

muffins. This task involves students designing & producing their own muffin. This

task is due at the end of the term when students will cook their ‘own’ muffins.

Here are some photos of students in Term 1 cooking their own ‘designer muffins’.
