Commodore’s Corner

Hello 2021

Welcome to the New Year. I, like most people am glad 2020 is over and ready to start a New Year

with a new normal. As we make those New Year’s Resolutions, one of mine is to make this club

more active and a place to hang out and enjoy talking with friends. To achieve that goal I am asking

for your help, to participate on a committee. If everyone pitches in we get a wide variety of ideas for

events in the club and destinations to enjoy. Our club is only as great as we make it. Please think

about joining a committee and helping out. We have lots of experience and I’ve heard some great

ideas, so let’s get them organized and make things happen. The committees are: Entertainment,

Cruising, Membership, Race, Spyglass and Juniors. There is a sign-up sheet on the bar.

Even as challenging as 2020 was, we managed to grow our membership and have a successful

year with limited activities. I would like to thank those people that helped make that happen, Larry

Whited and Tom Smith/House & Facilities, Jan Lemaire/Entertainment, Dave Lemaire/Membership,

Sandy Stone/Juniors, Kyle Bowser/Race, Peggy Stone/Spyglass just to name a few. Thank you all

for your support.

The Christmas Boat Parade was a big success. The weather managed to hold off until we were

about half way through. Several boats went ahead and finished the route in the weather. There

were lots of parties/spectators cheering the boats on.

We have a new Bar Manager, Courtney McBeth, who will be taking on new and broader duties.

Cheryl Perret has taken on House.

Last year we realized we needed to make some drink price changes. As everything happened and

our world changed, we, the board, decided to delay those increases. It is now time we need to im-

plement those changes. Most are minor adjustments.

Please keep our fellow members who have COVID in your thoughts and prayers. Remember to fol-

low the CDC guidelines, wash your hands often, wear a mask and maintain social distances.

Courtney has been our bartender throughout the misery of Covid

shutdowns. We look forward to having the opportunity to see her

around more often.

Entertainment and First Mates

First Mates:

It was about this time that we had planned to pay dues and to gather to plan our way forward. With the surge in cases in the pandemic I have put the gathering on hold but I think with a vaccine imminent that we can plan on getting together perhaps in the Spring. Right now we are looking for an indication of who will be interested in membership for the coming year. If you are planning to join us for this coming year you can let Cheryl Perret know so that your TYC account can be billed for the dues or you can mail Cheryl Perret a check for $30 to the Club at Tammany Yacht Club, PO Box 1038, Slidell, LA 70459. Your response to this email will allow us to build a roster for the coming year and to develop a nominating committee so we can build a solid structure.

I will make a copy for you and if you are local I will deliver to the club in an envelope with your name on it. If you are out of town I will mail it to you. You can then print a hard copy of the directory if you wish. The file is editable and we will try to keep membership informed of changes so it can stay current.

Kick 2020 to the curb!

Thanks for having me come into your lives every month through Spy-

glass. This will be my last Spyglass. The club will be better served hav-

ing a Spyglass editor that is able to be present at the club functions.

Best wishes for a safe and happy 2021

Who knew when we made our New Years resolutions last year what

was in store:

Build a better budget—easy with no where to go; cook one new thing

every week—ha! Cooking 7 dinners a week; stay hydrated—not sure if

that meant copious amounts of wine but I got this one; keep the house

more presentable—yeah, the light switches and door knobs have never

been cleaner; get more use out of the work out clothes—alternating with

pajamas; give yourself a new look– best yet with salons closed.

Stay well everyone. Best wishes to the new board and committee chairs

in 2021.

Special thoughts for special people

Our beloved Brenda McCoy lost her sister shortly before Christmas. This is her last living sister and they were very close. This is a very difficult time for Brenda and her family. Brenda is an integral part of our TYC fami-ly and truly we would not have the magnificent food service at our gather-ings if Brenda were not there to get us through with food in our tum-mies!
