PMI Houston 2016 Conference Celebrates the Power of You! From the time they entered the NRG Center, PMI Houston Conference & Expo attendees experienced the energizing “Power of You.” The 3-day annual event featured an Expo, 56 Breakout Sessions, Master Classes, eight full-day Workshops and a Job Fair.
Clyde Fessler, former Vice President of marketing and business development at the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, kicked off the conference Monday morning with a keynote speech about Harley-Davidson’s dramatic turnaround. Fessler discussed how a core group helped to
reestablish Harley-Davidson as one of the most enduring and identifiable brands in the world.
Breakout sessions on Monday and Tuesday featured quality speakers in seven different tracks. For the first time, attendees could also select Master Classes featuring keynote speaker Clyde Fessler and Rick Gillis, Houston
Career Expert and author of Promote!
PMIH Conference Project Manager Amy Stonesifer appreciated the quality of this year’s keynote speakers. “Clyde Fessler, Rick Gillis and Jim McIngvale did an amazing job of connecting the dots on defining your personal brand.”
Sponsors and Exhibitors connected with attendees at the Expo. PMI Houston thanks its sponsors and vendors for their continued and enthusiastic support.

Have you considered serving on the PMI Houston Board?
Deadline to apply June 30, 2016
Why I serve on PMI Houston Board of Directors
If you have ever considered running for a board position but are not sure what to
expect let me share with you my journey.
About 6 years ago I became a PMI Houston member but I only occasionally
attended any functions. When the company I worked for trimmed our travel and
eventually went bankrupt I had allot more time on my hands. I felt disconnected
from the Houston area because I had traveled so much. So I needed to develop my
network and volunteering made it easy to connect.
I attended a monthly meeting at the Galleria location. There I learned about the need for volunteers for conference
from Mame Leslie and David Thomas who were leading the PMI Houston annual conference. I had just lost my job so
I had allot of time to volunteer and I worked on the team. Through the experience of planning and working the
conference I met so many people. There was also a great opportunity to learn new project management skills and
develop my elevator speech.
But beyond what volunteering gave me I saw the needs of fellow PMIH members to also connect and develop their
skills. I began to approach the board about different ideas to support unemployed members, how to coordinate
volunteers, how to show value to members. Most of all how could we support our profession?
David encouraged me to run for the board. I did and now here I am.
In my 3 years on the board I’ve worked to support our profession but also our community. I’ve had the opportunity to
meet some amazing people many who I now call friends.
I’ve worked on conference and this year was the Project Manager. I got the chance to lead a scope a thon supporting
the Barbara Bush Foundation supporting organizations that target literacy. I’ve help coordinate job search workshops
to support unemployed PMs.
Being a PMI Houston board member is giving back in so many ways. But it also means gaining much more.
It is a big commitment and responsibility. But if you love working with people. If you like to be a leader and make an
impact you only need to step up and join us.

`
Are you ready to serve?
If you are passionate about Project Management and our community. If you have volunteered for 6 months in the last
18 months for PMIH on the team you want to lead. Are a current active member of our organization in good standing
you have the basics to apply to run.
Commitment
My weekly commitment requires 1-2 meetings by phone or in person. Responding to emails from my fellow board
members, volunteers and members.
My role is responsible for supporting the external Vice Presidents. I try to speak with them bi-weekly. We meet once a
month for a board of Directors Meeting.
Depending on the events scheduled each month I may put in up to 40 hours a month. In slower months I may spend
only a couple hours a week. Our workload is definitely higher before conference.
Leadership
Our board is most successful when individuals are active leaders who are open to listening to ideas, open to express
their ideas and have the ability to compromise.
You have to be willing to lose to win. You will find yourself being developed but you need to develop those around
you.
I hope you will consider running. The deadline is fast approaching. Press this link to see the positions available and
