Culture Shock

•  Initial disorientation when you visit another country or culture

•  Belief that our own culture is superior to others

Responsibility

Responsibility is defined as our duty to take ownership for the decisions we make or fail to make, the actions we take or fail to

take and the consequences that result

• Efficient decision-making

• Accept assignments within your capability

• Commitments towards tasks assigned

• Adherence to the policies, rules, regulations and laws

• Report unethical conduct to appropriate management • Violations of code is not accepted

• Protect confidential information

• File ethics complaints when they are substantiated by facts

• Accepting stretch assignments and informing stakeholder

• Disciplinary action against individuals who knowingly make false statements

• Bidding on contracts for which company is not qualified

•  Accept! – This is normal social behaviour

•  Accepting small tokens is OK – Items with company logo – Chocolate


•  What about when the gift gets really expensive,

– Accept/Decline?

•  Treat it as a case of conflict of interest – Walk up to your boss and disclose the

situation to him or her

Honesty is our duty to act to understand the truth and act in a truthful manner both in our communications and in our conduct

The confidentiality of intellectual property that you have access to, must

be maintained

As a PMP®, you should provide accurate and

truthful information in status reports and press

releases

•  Look at the Code of Ethics as:

– A Lifestyle

– The ideal approach for all of us to work in

– The context of your professional responsibility as a PMP®

Remember to answer ethical questions based on the code of ethics during the

PMP exam®.


Case Scenario

•  You notify the stakeholders and provide the correct information


Scenario 1

You are brought unto an ongoing project and you see that project status

information has not been correctly communicated to the stakeholders.

What do you do?

•  Remove yourself from the selection process and disclose it to stakeholders


Scenario 2

What should you do if your best friend owns a company that bids for

a subcontract on your project?

Scenario 3 Your company’s product might

under particular circumstances, lead to serious health issues. The

analysis also shows that the cost of a recall, would be greater than the financial risk of keeping it in the

market. What should you do

•  That is OK. •  Routine government action often require that

you pay a fee


Scenario 4

Pay a fee to a foreign government for a routine action, like obtaining a

registration certificate

•  No, it isn’t, because that is considered a bribe


Scenario 5

Is it OK to pay a fee to a government official, to ensure that your application will be approved

and processed in a speedy fashion?
