Session Topic

• Developing Site Leadership through the Summer Institute and Beyond

Invitation to write: (10 min)

It was our idea that the summer institute should develop a corps of teachers prepared to teach other teachers. We saw these teachers as experts who could be called on to serve with authority in the struggle to improve the teaching of writing in the nation’s schools. The summer institute would serve as an invitation to this endeavor.

• explain how we are organizing our session into Before, During and Beyond the SI

Leading up to the ISI-setting the stage  (45 min)

• Recruitment and Interviews-– Be explicit about expectations-Carol's handout– SAWP copies

• Pre-Institute events – (Welcome Dinner, Pre Institute Days)

• Schedules and other odds and ends– tuition, credit, facility, parking

• Small group response activity (round tables, get folks talking, chart paper displays?)

During the ISI-tapping knowledge and expertise
