Pluto woke up lively to play with his planet

friends: the little nervous Mars, Neptune,

Uranus, very big Jupiter, the Earth, Mercury,

Saturn with its rings (Pluto was crazy

about having rings to be able to play a lot of

things) and Venus, so beautiful, so loving. Pluto

stretched and went after his friends.

Saturn was shaking its body, it was making

its rings move. When they fell, Neptune caught

them to play.

— Hey, can I play? I want to, I want to —

he said lively.

— No, you can’t. You are too small.

— But I have always played with you.

— You won’t play any more.

9

Page 12: Pluto wants to be big

— Hey Earth, let’s we play? — Pluto got closer

to her, very excited.

— The thing is… — she seemed bewildered.

The thing is that I cannot…

— Why not? — Pluto wanted to know, already

discouraged, imagining that mother

Earth grounded her.

— Soon I will have an eclipse with my moon and

I will be busy with that.

— Aha – said Pluto sad at the news.

Mars just liked provoking the others,

throwing asteroids on the planets, but Pluto was

so lonely that he wanted to call him to play. Mars

even seemed to like the idea, but…

— Don’t disturb us Pluto! – Said the furious

Planet.

— What are you doing?

— Nothing. I have already told you not to

disturb.

— Okay, I’m sorry – Pluto answered very

embarrassed, and then he left.

Pluto was getting sadder and sadder, what was

happening with the whole Universe?

13

Page 16: Pluto wants to be big

—Mercury, hey Mercury – Pluto arrived

slowly, but he didn’t seem to hear him – hey Mercury!

— Oh, hi Pluto, what is up? – he continued to give its

ride, around the sun.

— Shall we play? – the little planet asked very

afraid.

— Okay, let’s ! We will see who rides more times

around the sun. One, two, three and go.

— Pluto knew that he couldn’t beat him, after

all Mercury was faster, and in its orbit, the closest,

but Mercury was the only one that still wanted to

play with him, as it was positing its self…

14

15

16

Page 19: Pluto wants to be big

— Mercury! – a deafening voice was

heard and later an immense shadow formed over the

two little planets – I have already told you that you

shouldn’t play with Pluto – It was Jupiter, the giant

of the Solar System.

Mercury shook in fear and Pluto didn’t know

what to say at first.

— Pluto, you are now a dwarf Planet. You belong

to another category of celestial bodies, therefore

you cannot play with us any more.

— But and so what? I have always played with you.

— Now you don’t play any more, we noticed that you are

too small to play with planets like us – answered

Jupiter.

17

Page 20: Pluto wants to be big

— Wake up Pluto, planets play with

Planets, not with satellites – Uranus appeared

coldly.

— But…

— If you keep bugging us, I will send you to

the black hole and you will never return again.

A black hole is like a bugbear that

hides at night in the closet to scare children.

However, instead of leaving, the black hole pulls

us inside. And nobody ever returned to tell the

story.

18

Page 21: Pluto wants to be big

19

Page 22: Pluto wants to be big

Pluto kept orbiting itself, the most

distant orbit from the sun and it was alone,

sad and cold.20

Page 23: Pluto wants to be big

21

Page 24: Pluto wants to be big

— Poor Pluto! – Venus appeared and got closer

to him.

— Nobody wants to play with me – Pluto whined.

— But the Universe is so big, why don’t seek

other planets to play?

— I cannot leave the Solar System, my

mother doesn’t let me.

— But here there are many Celestial bodies to

play with you.

— I’m a planet still, although I’m a dwarf. Why can

I not play with them?

22

Page 25: Pluto wants to be big

23

Page 26: Pluto wants to be big

24

Page 27: Pluto wants to be big

— Because they don’t want to dear.

— Andy you, don’t you want to play with me? – he

made a poor fellow face - only a little bit?

— Dear… that’s not the point.

— All right, you don’t need to say anything

– Pluto became furious – I hope the universe

explodes!

Pluto left angry and Venus could not do anything

“He will have to discover it alone later”, she returned

to her orbit.

25

Page 28: Pluto wants to be big

Pluto saw all the planets playing baseball.

— Hey, I want to play, I want to play!

They stopped playing and they looked at him.

— No Pluto. Didn’t you notice that…?

— Wait… wait – said Neptune with a malicious

shine in his look – do you want to play?

— I want, I want…

26

Page 29: Pluto wants to be big

They caught Pluto and they made a ball of

him. And they kept throwing him to all sides, until

Jupiter, beat him so strong with the bat, that Pluto

ended up very, very far, out of the story,

there on page 34.

27

Page 30: Pluto wants to be big

— You? – said discouraged Pluto.

— What’s the problem? – asked the Moon.

— You are not… You are not Planets.

— You have just been excluded by being a dwarf

and now you want to exclude us because we

are not planets? – said Europe, Jupiter’s

moon.

— I told you not to call him – Eris said.

— Don’t mind 2003UB313, she likes to sow

discord – the moon continued.

— Don’t call me like that, my name now is Eris – she

turned Pluto – and just for the record I’m a

planet just like you little boy.

28

30

Page 33: Pluto wants to be big

— It’s Pluto, she and Ceres

are dwarf planets like you, but this isn’t

important for us, nor is the size of each one

– Titan began – see the small ones: Cordelia, Ophelia,

Bianca, Cressinda, Desdemona, a Belinda e Galatea.

— Hiiiii – they answered with a sharp pretty

voice.

— Come, it is much more fun with us, you will

see – said Caronte, its own moon.

— Have you already played hide and seek, in the

middle of the asteroids? – asked Titan.

— No, is it possible? - Everyone laughed at him.

— Of course. You’ ve never played with the planets

because they are big, all clumsy – answered the

Moon.

31

Page 34: Pluto wants to be big

32

Page 35: Pluto wants to be big

Finally, Pluto decided to accept he was too

small to play with the others, they hardly saw

him and they were rarely with him.

— To play with the new friends was very good.

I was not angry with the others, but to be

alone and crying…, never again!

The end.

33

Page 36: Pluto wants to be big

And Pluto arrived on that empty page, and

there very, very sad, he was crying, alone, without

anybody to hear him. He would have been

there for ever...

34

Page 37: Pluto wants to be big

... if he hadn’t heard his name.

— Pluto… Pluto – a voice came from the distance

– come to play with us, come.

Pluto began cheering up again.

— We are here on page 28.

And Pluto went there.
