This is a full-time, benefited, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Department of Facilities Management. This position comes with an extensive benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, CalPERS retirement, Fee Waiver eligibility (reduced tuition on most CSU system classes), life insurance, and voluntary pre-tax health and dependent care reimbursement ac- counts. Occasional night, weekend, and holiday shifts will be required. Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Director of Facilities & Housing Maintenance, plumb- ers perform the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing and related work as required to maintain and/or modify campus physical facilities to meet the needs of the University. Duties: Work from blueprints, specifications, drawings and instructions as needed to install, maintain, modify, and repair plumbing apparatuses, equipment and systems. Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair plumbing malfunctions using various instruments. Maintain and repair mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprin- kler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems including automated sprinkler systems. Maintains, troubleshoots and test plumbing systems including backflow prevention devices. Tests plumbing equipment and systems for safety and efficiency. Plans the layout and piping of new or remodeled installations. Fabricates plumbing parts and performs incidental soldering as necessary to complete plumbing work. Make rough sketches of repair work and submit such to supervisor. Participates in the maintenance and operations of a plumbing shop. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Cleans, maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Tracks and reports time and materials for assigned work. Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Estimates cost, time and materials for plumbing projects or work efforts as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a plumber's apprenticeship program. Possession of a valid California driver's license and an appropriate driving record. Make rough sketches of plumbing installations

Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications

Estimate the cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation assignments or projects

Work at heights up to 80' and in confined spaces

Use maintenance management and work reporting systems such as those used to track work orders, obtain warehouse supplies, and maintain facility/equipment data

Perform work involving strenuous physical activity including tasks with repetitive physical motion, heavy lift-ing, repetitive tasks, traversing uneven slopes and climbing stairs

Perform work including exposure to raw sewage, involving the use of a respirator and working within confined spaces, trenches including the use of shoring equipment, noisy and/or dusty environments which requires the use of personal protective equipment, requiring the ability and agility to work in tight crawl or attic spaces and work at heights requiring the use of a ladder, scaffolds and lifts which may include the use of fall protection equipment

Provide lead direction and instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants

Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations

Prepare standard reports

Read and write and perform arithmetic calculations at the level appropriate to the position

Three years of journey-level plumbing experience associated with commercial or institutional construction projects
