Overview

Psychosis is a twisted tale of a young school girl who on the surface appears to be a normal, hardworking girl. But underneath lies an unexpected story of betrayal and personal perception of right and wrong.

Synopsis

The film starts with a family who recently moved house. The family consists of Mum, dad, older brother, girl and younger brother. The controlling, abusive dad moves there to escape pressure of city life. The dad and older brother are constantly arguing, and the mum is obsessed with the newborn baby. This leads to the neglect of the young daughter, who soon begins to resent every member of the family. Soon after they move to the country, the father and son begin arguing more. Deprived of company, the girl creates an imaginary companion of her own whom she turns to for advice and friendship.

One night after an argument between the father and son, a pair of hands is seen smothering the drunk father with a pillow while he sleeps leading to his death. We are unaware of the person behind the attack, although all signs lead towards the brother being guilty, and he is quickly sent to prison. This leads to a grief stricken mother who is easily controlled by her daughter and an ultimately female led household. We are later shown signs to hint the guilty side of the girl, the story is unveiled through the use of the girls imaginary friend. Despite

The film is resolved in the end through the girls acceptance of the murders she committed, and the audience’s ultimate choice to sympathise with her or not.
