VERICUT® Software Reaches 25 Year Milestone 19 February 2013 CGTech, the developer of VERICUT software, is proud to celebrate a quarter-century of developing numerical control (NC) program simulation and analysis software. Flourishing through an era when software companies came and went, CGTech has achieved twenty-five years of innovation and steady growth. CGTech began when Jon Prun, the company’s founder and president, recognized a need to verify NC tool path programs without wasting valuable CNC machining time on a prove-out part. CGTech then created VERICUT® software: the world’s first widely available, productive method to test NC machine tool paths, without using a machine tool. VERICUT revolutionized NC program verification by simulating material removal using a three-dimensional solid model. “We wouldn’t be in a position to celebrate 25 years of business without the loyal support of all those who use VERICUT,” said Prun. “VERICUT development is driven by our customers’ needs, and we always welcome feedback from users and partners. It is the reason we host nearly 40 VERICUT user group meetings each year.” Since its initial release, VERICUT has been constantly enhanced in-house by a large team of CGTech software engineers who have many years of experience in the mechanical CAD/CAM industry. In addition to regular enhancements to its core algorithms, products have been added to optimize feed rates and simulate the kinematics of complex multi-axis and multi-spindle CNC machine tools. CGTech has also recently released new products for companies utilising automated composite machinery, and drilling and fastening machines. CGTech has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, and its customer list consists of thousands of companies in virtually every manufacturing industry, including every major aerospace and automotive company. Wholly-owned subsidiary companies have been founded in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Singapore, India, and Brazil to support customers, resellers and partners worldwide.

Delcam CRISPIN to Show Footwear Design Software in Istanbul 19 February 2013 Delcam Turkey will demonstrate the 2013 versions of Delcam CRISPIN’s ShoeMaker software for 3D concept design and the Engineer Pro pattern development and grading software at the AYSAF (Istanbul International Footwear Suppliers Fair) to be held from 28th February to 2nd March. ShoeMaker is the product of choice for 3D conceptual footwear design and is the only solution to combine upper and sole design and modelling within the same 3D environment. The software helps users to produce realistic 3D footwear models for design and marketing reviews, whilst reducing the number of samples produced, improving communications between the design and manufacturing teams, and reducing overall product time to market. Any required design iterations can be made easily, to produce an approved design model and flattened patterns that are ready for engineering. New functionality for ShoeMaker 2013 includes user-defined flattening for Offset Concept Lasts (OCL), improvements to the last import with automatic detection of the centre lines, and better control for the positioning of image stencils, including a three-point alignment tool. There is a new Flattening Parameter File editing tool for adjusting specific aspects of the flattened formes, plus some additional fine controls to change the shape of the flattening. A special tool has been added to change the appearance of the design model to display a ‘relaxed look’ as if the last has been physically removed from the shoe. Finally, a new pattern assessment tool for pre-costing of the pattern pieces has been added. Engineer Pro helps users to produce 2D sample and graded footwear patterns for manufacturing in the fastest possible time, whilst also assisting in the management of tooling costs. Advanced tools like 'Edge Templates' reduce pattern development times dramatically, so improving throughput and reducing time to market. New functionality includes Single Click Boundary, a new way to create boundaries where a left-click in a closed area creates a boundary from the enclosing lines. An option has been added to the Radius/Chamfer function allowing a radius to be quickly added to any intersection of a part. There are also improvements to the speed with which the Boundary, Chain and Join functions are used

and an easier way to convert corner points to curve points. In addition, there is now a new option to adjust the icon size of the main tool bars and tool-trays to the smaller size of 24x24. This option increases the size of the working area, a request which has been requested by several customers. There have also been some significant changes and improvements to the installation process and the environment configuration for Engineer Pro. The combination of Engineer Pro and ShoeStyle provides a powerful combination of 3D and 2D tools to ensure that any manufacturing issues are detected earlier in the development cycle by improving communication between the design and pattern making departments. This reduces the number of design iterations and so allows the time to market to be shortened significantly.

Cimatron Reports Record Q4 and Full Year 2012 Results Across all Operating Parameters 19 February 2013 Cimatron Limited today announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2012. Highlights of Cimatron’s results for these periods include the following:

• Record revenues of $42.3M in 2012 and $12.4M in Q4/12 • Record non-GAAP operating profit of $6.1M in 2012 and $2.3M in Q4/12 with operating

margins of 14% and 19%, respectively • Record $5.7M operating cash flow in 2012 (excluding a one-time royalty payment of $2.5M to

the Israeli Office of the Chief Scientist) • 39% increase in GAAP net profit in 2012 to $3.7M

Commenting on the results, Danny Haran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cimatron, noted, “We are excited to report a record fourth quarter, rounding out the best year in Cimatron’s history. We continue to see strong demand for our products, as well as robust growth in maintenance revenues from existing and new customers. On a constant currency basis, in 2012, our revenues grew by 7%. We achieved these strong results despite a delay in some US-based projects towards the end of the fourth quarter, which were attributed to customer ’Fiscal Cliff‘ concerns. These delays are believed to be behind us, as indicated by initial results in January.” Continued Mr. Haran, “We look forward to an even stronger 2013. Based on what we are currently seeing in the market, combined with the current demand across our product portfolio, we expect to continue to grow our top line in 2013. This, we believe, will be translated into increased growth in operating profit due to the strong operating leverage inherent in our business model, which allows us to bring a great portion of any revenue increase down to the operating profit.” “We aim to release a new and exciting version of CimatronE, version 11, towards the end of Q1 2013. Soon after that, the GibbsCAM 2013 version release is planned. With numerous improvements and advances, we believe these innovations will greatly support our sales efforts in 2013."

“Cimatron is currently exploring new opportunities in the field of additive manufacturing, also known as 3D Printing. Over the last few years, some of our customers and business partners have increasingly started to use and apply this emerging technology to their manufacturing processes, and we are researching how we can better serve our customers and partners in this exciting new way of manufacturing." “At this point, Cimatron has no revenues from additive manufacturing. Yet, we believe that additive and hybrid manufacturing have great potential to emerge in many directions, and that our knowledge and vast expertise in 3D modeling and manufacturing will allow us to take part in this field, as it becomes more and more commonly used, side by side with traditional subtractive manufacturing techniques,” concluded Mr. Haran. Nemetschek Defies Negative Market Trends 15 February 2013 Nemetschek AG published its preliminary earnings for the financial year 2012. These results show an increase in revenues of 6.8 percent to EUR 175.1 million (previous year: EUR 164.0 million). The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 3.5 percent to EUR 40.7 million (previous year: EUR 39.3 million). The EBITDA margin of 23.2 percent remained at a good level (previous year: 23.9 percent). As expected, the net income of EUR 18.8 million was just under 10 percent less than that of the previous year, in which a high deferred tax income was realized. The earnings per share were accordingly EUR 1.95. Cash flow development continued to be very satisfactory. Operative cash flow was just below previous year levels at EUR 36.5 million due to lower accounts payable. The same applies for the free cash flow which, at EUR 29.8 million, was below the previous year’s level due to higher investments in international expansion. Net liquidity rose by more than half from EUR 28.8 million to EUR 44.3 million, while the company continues to be free of bank debt. The forecast expected by the company for 2012 was thus achieved in terms of revenue (forecast: at least EUR 175 million), and exceeded in terms of EBITDA (forecast: at least EUR 39.3 million). The main reason for this is the positive development of the company in the second half of the year "Compared to the development in the first half of the year, which did not meet expectations, we have been able to regain ground" comments Tanja Tamara Dreilich, sole member of the executive board of Nemetschek AG, on the figures. The company thus also expects a positive development for 2013. Group revenue is consequently expected to rise to between EUR 185 and 190 million. EBITDA is expected to reach a level of EUR 42 to 44 million. The company will publish the complete results for the 2012 financial year as well as the 2012 annual report on March 28, 2013.

headquartered in Italy, and continues the company’s strong expansion into European manufacturers that are seeking to protect and improve profitability in a difficult economic environment. ATV designs upstream, downstream, power and custom valves for the oil, gas and energy industries, as well as invests in extensive research and development capabilities to support advancements in flow control applications and custom-manufactured products. The privately owned company was established in 2006 and its customer base extends internationally. ATV chose to adopt the aPriori Product Cost Management software platform because it wanted to improve visibility to product cost during the earliest design phases, and dramatically reduce the time and effort required to cost each of its components. Because aPriori analyzes a 3D CAD model as part of its cost estimation process, it’s easy to use, and provides ATV with an extremely time-efficient alternative to manually costing parts. The ease of use also enables the platform to be leveraged across the entire product development lifecycle, even by individuals that do not have a strong background in manufacturing or cost estimating. Enrico Sanguineti, general manager at ATV, said: “ATV will now have a single product cost management platform that enables designers and sourcing to leverage the experience of our cost estimators, and know the cost of each and every trade-off decision at the moment they consider the change. We believe this will reduce the possibility that our products will reach manufacturing and be over target cost, requiring rework to the design that is costly and inefficient. Thanks to aPriori we can immediately see how design changes and different sourcing strategies affect product costs.” “aPriori will continue to help ATV to reduce the costs of its products quickly and accurately, so that its design and engineering teams are able to dedicate more time and resources to developing new technologies and customised products,” said Arnaud Walburger, managing director of Europe at aPriori. “By ensuring a fast and accurate process for costing parts, aPriori is helping ATV to achieve target costs, negotiate better deals with its suppliers and reduce time-to-market.”

SIFOM gets Maximum Productivity from its CNC Machines with WorkNC Automatic CAD-CAM 18 February 2013 Located between Angers and Saumur in France, SIFOM has been a specialist manufacturer of molds and tooling equipment since 2002. Its core business: manufacturing tooling equipment and complete molds, some of which are very large components weighing up to 25 tons (for external automobile panels). Managing Director, Brice Vincent explains, "SIFOM started out working for the automotive industry. In 2007, we began to work for the construction and civil engineering industry, which was an innovative move at the time. For instance, we’ve manufactured molds for swimming pools and even a mold for an artificial water table. That was a great experience. Over the past 2 or 3 years, we have turned our attention to the aeronautical industry. In order to meet the requirements of this industry, we diversified our production by manufacturing stamping dies, assembly tools along with plastic and aluminum injection molds. We are also in the process of obtaining ISO certification." So today, these are SIFOM’s three main markets, along with a few customers for precision tooling from the gold-smithing trade. The company has a staff of 12, including 5 milling machine operators/fitters and two drillers/fitters, and it generated around 1.2 million Euros in sales in 2012. The company is at the forefront of technology with its pool of CNC machines, which includes machining centers from MAZAK, ZAYER, HAAS, VERNIER and HURCO, with the imminent arrival of a FIDIA 5-axis machine. "We knew the market so we were aware of the WorkNC CAD-CAM solution," said Brice Vincent. “The first license was purchased in 2002 when SIFOM set up shop. Today, there are two WorkNC seats for programming jobs, and soon, there’ll be a third one for simultaneous 5-axis programming," he adds. According to Brice, "Over the past 10 years, WorkNC software development has always kept pace with and anticipated our needs, and none more so than Version 21. Today, it's extraordinary". In addition to the continual development of the WorkNC CAD-CAM software in general, R&D has always taken SIFOM’s specific application related requests onboard. "We’ve enjoyed unflagging technical support over these past ten years", says Brice. SIFOM’s programmers prepare their toolpaths in WorkNC and run them directly on the CNC machine. "We don't need to simulate our machining sequences, we've never had a breakage and that's going back to 2002", enthuses Brice. The workshop runs machining programs during the day for the most complex or shortest jobs. The rest, i.e. the bulk of finishing and semi-finishing toolpaths, are done overnight. "They've got to be right first time. In 2011, right in the middle of an industrial boom, the company was able to operate 22 hours out of 24. A great way of maximizing production resources. Absolutely no breakages due to CAM and WorkNC, only occasional errors in the choice of tools, that's all we had” says Brice. However, to achieve such impressive results, SIFOM’s programmers always use the collision detection functions

within WorkNC. As Brice Vincent stated earlier, he loves a challenge and loves manufacturing complex molds and tooling equipment. The company was recently entrusted with the production of a delicate inclined part made from a composite material with groove features, contour milling, holes,... in short, requiring 60 hours of high added value machining. This part would usually have undergone 5-axis machining, but unfortunately SIFOM had not taken delivery of their new 5-axis CNC machining center at the time. According to Brice, "We weren't going to let the opportunity of getting a new customer and demonstrating our know-how slip through our fingers. This was a twofold challenge for us: to successfully produce and deliver the part within the deadline and to demonstrate WorkNC’s capabilities to a customer who used a different CAM system. So we took on and met the challenge and our customer was very pleasantly surprised. That experience reassured us that we were doing the right thing investing in the FIDIA simultaneous 5-axis machining center which will be a further asset in our strategy of diversification." 5-axis technology, in tandem with WorkNC CAD-CAM, is definitely the future for SIFOM. "It’s important that you don’t change a formula that works, especially one that works really well," says Brice When asked about the benefits of using WorkNC, Brice replies, "It's so easy to use, it ensures our CNC machines operate in complete security and it’s an essential part of our diversification program, therefore for the future of the company." However, he believes the biggest benefit may be the fact that his programmers have become so familiar with WorkNC that they use the software to its full capability, very occasionally calling for assistance from the WorkNC technical support team. Brice never hears any complaints... but he has noticed the upward trend in the company's turnover. A result which illustrates the worth of industrial software, as a help and not a hindrance to users in their day-to-day work, and a potential asset for protecting and improving a company’s market position.

VISI Electrode Triggers Alliance Revolution 20 February 2013 A tooling manufacturer says the combination of a new Sodick EDM AG60L spark eroder and switching to Vero Software’s dedicated electrode design module, VISI Electrode, has completely revolutionised the production of their copper electrodes. The Managing Director of Alliance Tooling Ltd, Luke Parsons, cites an example of a mold they made recently for the trigger of a household cleaning spray. “We needed ten different electrodes for the tool, which, previously, would have taken ten hours to create. Each electrode used to take an hour to model, but VISI Electrode has reduced our design time by 80%, with each electrode now taking less than 10 minutes to produce.”

Page 36

Toolmaker Ian Jarvis says VISI Electrode has made his job considerably easier. “Once I’d made a few changes to the fillet rads on the trigger mold I simply clicked on the faces I wanted to spark and enclosed them with a 3D boundary. They were immediately extracted from the tooling model, providing a quick and simple way to arrive at the required electrode geometry.” More complex areas are extracted just as easily using a graphical face selection. An intuitive interface guides him through the process of creating the electrode nose, which he says makes further editing of extracted faces a simple procedure, as extension height can be added with either vertical, draft, or tangential extension. “If I want to extend the extracted faces, it’s easy to add a bit of extra draft, and then add the stock. If I’m creating a rib with stock, I can add fillets to the stock so quickly and easily to give the rib strength.” For open-sided electrodes, he has made use of multiple extrusion directions for automatic side extension. The base and stock are interactively added, and he is able to utilise the dynamic animation and collision check features at any time during the creation process. “If I’m using Erowa holders, I can pull the geometry from the database and simulate the complete burning process, eliminating any potential clashes while it’s being produced.” Leicester-based Alliance Tooling make aluminium and steel molds for household goods, point-of-sale, garden products, the building industry, medical and dispensing products, and the automotive sector. They first realised they needed to improve their electrode design and manufacturing processes while building a mold for a drug dispensing component which required a large number of electrodes, but with a short production window. “This highlighted a bottleneck with producing electrode models and sparking them,” says Luke Parsons. The Sodick AG60L 6-station toolchange spark eroder overcame the sparking bottleneck. “The roughing cycle is far faster than anything we’ve seen before, and with the tool-changer we can maximise lights-out usage.” The use of VISI Electrode means Alliance have electrodes ready before they need them. “In the past we’ve been sparking electrodes as soon as they’re available, then production stopped while we made another.” Alliance realised VISI Electrode would be perfect for keeping the Sodick fed with electrodes for sparking, there was one further hurdle they had to overcome before their full electrode process was complete – toolpath production. “Until recently we only had one holder, but now we’ve created a dedicated jig comprising four new electrode chucks in specific datums on a hardened and ground steel plate. This is now a permanent fixture on our Hardinge Bridgeport, and we can machine electrodes in batches of four by linking individual programs together – again fully utilising lights-out machining.” Luke Parsons continues to detail how the data export from VISI Electrode saves Alliance even more time, and material usage, too. “Previously, where we had the same feature on a tool, but in multiple positions and different orientations, we had to make different electrodes of the same feature, but at

Page 37: PLM Industry Summary - CIMdata PLM Industry Summary Page 2 ... PSA Adds Interactive Graphic Display Module to Product Lifecycle Management Software CMPRO ____ 48 Release of Mastercam

Page 37

different angles. Now we can fit one electrode into all the necessary positions as VISI Electrode gives provides the XYZ and U position so we can use the same electrode to produce all the common features. We just physically rotate it on the machine.” As well as overcoming the design bottleneck and improving the manufacturing process, Luke Parsons says VISI Electrode also gives them the confidence that their electrodes will be 100% accurate: “We only get one chance to spark an electrode in position, so there’s no margin for error. VISI Electrode doesn’t just create the electrode, it creates a co-ordinate sheet, a drawing report of the electrode and workpiece, XYZ and U co-ordinates, and the start and finish points. It gives our Sodick operator a visual picture of what he needs to achieve. This is of paramount importance for accuracy.” He says while the combination of the Sodick spark eroder and VISI Electrode has already revolutionised the way they design and manufacture electrodes, it is absolutely key towards achieving their aim of doubling turnover within the next 12 months. That objective will also be helped by their planned step-by-step switch to other software from the VISI portfolio, including VISI Machining to replace their existing CAM system. Their molds are already modelled, designed and analysed using VISI Modelling, VISI Analysis and VISI Mold. “Part of the decision making process was that eventually we would design and manufacture all of our tools within a single environment, including VISI-PEPS wire for wire EDM.” Switching to VISI Machining will greatly reduce Alliance’s CNC programming time. The software’s templates containing tooling, tool path operations, feeds, speeds and depth of cut, etc., all of which can be stored and re-used on similar electrode families. Applying them to a new electrode will automatically create a new set of toolpaths using the same settings and company standards which have already been proven on previous jobs. Concluding, Luke Parsons says “Alliance has built up a very special know-how over the years and we have combined this with the latest machinery and CAD/CAM technology. Vero are key to our production plans and will ensure we remain in a position to meet the demands of our clients faster than ever.”

Delcam’s Latest FeatureCAM Includes New Stock Model Options 20 February 2013 The 2013 R2 version of Delcam’s FeatureCAM feature-based CAM software incorporates a number of new stock model options that allow users to increase productivity, improve surface finish and reduce tool wear. Other enhancements in this release include new methods for the generation of html set-up

sheets, and improvements to turning and turn-mill programming. For full details, including video demonstrations of the new functionality, please go to www.delcam.tv/fc2013/lz/en/whats-new-videos-r2.html. FeatureCAM was the world’s first feature-based programming software when it was launched in 1995. Constant development since then has ensured that the system has retained its leadership in programming speed and ease of use, while an increased range of strategies has been added to provide more efficient toolpaths giving greater productivity on a wider range of machines. The first addition to the stock model functionality eliminates excessive tool engagement and limits the maximum depth of any cut into un-machined material. Both these controls reduce tool wear and improve surface finish by avoiding any overloading of the tool. They can be used on both stock models imported into FeatureCAM, such as castings that need some finish machining, or on the stock models generated by FeatureCAM after each machining operation. The same functionality also removes toolpath segments that machine very little or no material. Rest machining has been made more efficient in two ways. Firstly, a new "detect metal thicker” command ensures that rest material thinner than the specified limit is ignored. This prevents toolpaths being generated in any areas where the benefit of the extra cut is negligible, such as cusps left by the previous toolpath. Secondly, toolpath fragmentation and the resultant air moves between fragments can be reduced by specifying a minimum gap length between cutting moves. Any gaps shorter than the specified distance will be linked with a tangential move between the segments, rather than having the tool retract fully from the surface for a very short air move. FeatureCAM 2013 R2 also incorporates a new method for generating html set-up sheets. Information can be extracted from the FeatureCAM project to provide a detailed list of the tooling to be used, with an illustration of each tool, together with the dimensions of the initial stock and an image of the finished part. A number of turning improvements have also been implemented, including smoother lead-in and lead-out moves that reduce any witness marks when finishing larger turned parts in a number of sections, and the ability to specify the optimum retract angle for turn-grooving operations and so leave a better surface finish on the part. Turn-mill operations have been made more efficient by offering an alternative method for calculating the index limits. This calculates the limits based on the size of a solid revolve of the part, rather than creating a cylinder around the corner limits of a rectangular bounding box around the part stock. The new method can give an index distance closer to the part shape and so produce more efficient toolpaths.

Finally, a new add-in has been made available for easier programming of barrel-cam features. This uses the slot centreline and follower diameter to create a four-axis milling feature and produces a toolpath with a tool of the chosen diameter that may be smaller than the follower. When the feature is wrapped around the X-axis of the part, small moves in the Y-axis can be used in conjunction with adjustments to the A-axis to ensure that the walls of the slot are machined correctly.

“Previously, a full list of reference data needed to be produced before catalogue creation could begin, a process that could take six to nine months to complete,” continues Mr. Middlemas. “Some vendors provided a ‘standard database’ – a large directory of reference data items – but often two thirds of the data would be irrelevant to the customer and the remaining third would only get them halfway to their goal. AVEVA Catalogue Manager removes this bottleneck by enabling the parallel creation of the catalogue alongside the reference data, delivering immediate benefits.” In addition to flexible integration options for third-party design applications, AVEVA Catalogue Manager integrates out of the box with AVEVA PDMS and the new AVEVA Everything3D design tools. This enables generated component codes to be mapped to design characteristics, further shortening the creation of specifications and other associated information in the Design phase, all under full revision control. Requiring only a fraction of the user training of competitor products and typically half the usual time to create a specification, AVEVA’s Catalogue Manager will save significant time and effort. AVEVA Catalogue Manager’s in-built flexibility enables it to be deployed as a stand-alone product, integrated into an AVEVA or third-party design environment, or as a part of the fully integrated AVEVA Enterprise Resource Management solution. It can be used at project, regional or global enterprise level. AVEVA Enterprise Resource Management provides a completely integrated planning, materials and construction management solution to enable greater project efficiency and profitability. PSA Adds Interactive Graphic Display Module to Product Lifecycle Management Software CMPRO 19 February 2013 Professional Systems Associates, Inc. (PSA) announces the addition of the Interactive Graphic Display (IGD) module to their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, CMPRO. The IGD module allows users to interact with images to quickly discover product related data. The IGD module delivers data through an interface that focuses on images, rather than text. This feature solves issues related to looking for product data without knowing the name or part number for specific items. Allowing users to search for data using images improves the ease of use with respect to manufacturing and maintaining items managed in CMPRO. Two-dimensional images are created using an external graphics application. Those images are loaded into CMPRO and hotspot links to drawing and part information are identified. With hotspot links in place, users click an area of the drawing to expand access to the supporting information. Moe Parker, CEO of PSA, stated, “We are excited about the IGD module because it allows CMPRO users of all levels to drill down using interactive graphics to locate drawing, part, and document information.” Mr. Parker continues, “Because this module does not require the CMPRO user to have design or modeling software, it enhances the ease of use of CMPRO.” The IGD module is included in the CMPRO build released December 2012. For more information about this and other CMPRO features contact PSA at www.psasys.com

Release of Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 Leverages Spatial 3D Components 20 February 2013 Spatial Corp, the provider of 3D development components for design, manufacturing and engineering applications, has joined CNC Software Inc. to announce that 3D ACIS Modeler and 3D InterOp are helping to power the latest release of Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012. Designed to control a variety of Swiss-style NC machines, Mastercam Swiss Expert is popular in a range of applications such as watch-making, medical device, dental, automotive, and electronics companies — all known for the requirement of extremely small but very precise parts. Because Mastercam Swiss Expert is a solids based toolset, CNC Software looked to 3D ACIS Modeler from Spatial Corp to provide the component technology required to deliver a high performing modeling kernel. In addition, leveraging 3D InterOp for data interoperability simplified support for standard and native CAD file formats including SAT, IGES, STEP, Parasolid, Creo, NX, SolidWorks, CATIA V4, and CATIA V5. By leveraging the expertise of Spatial for both 3D geometric modeling and data reuse, CNC Software is better able to focus their development resources on the specific requirements of their users and the need to deliver a streamlined programming method, from tool paths to synchronization to simulation. Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 includes features to simplify synchronization. This includes the ability to view all machining parameters and modify them on the fly if necessary, expand and contract the timeline for trouble-free viewing of the part process, and use of colors to help identify which tool paths belong to which tool group. To improve user productivity and to reduce cost, Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 lets users fully and safely simulate their project on a virtual machine before it reaches the shop floor. This is enabled by full simulation of every moving component of the machine, including material, main and sub spindles, all tool holders, and part handling devices. Accurate machine models allow you to be confident in the representation of machining processes. Automatic collision detection enables users to catch collisions in a virtual environment before damaging expensive equipment. “The ability for CNC Software to deliver the comprehensive functionality in Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 is an excellent example of the power of the Spatial component platform,” explained Ray Bagley, Director Product Planning and Management for Spatial. “CNC Software has been able to extend their position as a market leader by devoting the lion’s share of their development resources specifically on the needs of their user community and not on reinventing and optimizing data translation and modeling capabilities.” “The support we have received from Spatial as we brought Mastercam Swiss Expert 2012 to market has been great,” states Gary Hargreaves, Vice President of Business Development for CNC. “Our developers have been able to get timely answers to questions and the guidance we received while implementing the new release of the 3D ACIS Modeler allowed us to move forward without delay while the upgrade of 3D InterOp gives us the ability to accurately read in models from our customers.”

The outcome is that operators can be sure they are machining with the right program at the right time. FEATURES OVERVIEW NCSIMUL DNC also returns machine status, either manually from the NC console or automatically. It delivers native support for OPC, the international interoperability standard for industrial automation. This means that a machine’s status can be reported in real time with details of output, failures, downtime, setups, etc. This data can be used to generate activity reports in table or graph form to enable specific situations to be analyzed and more efficient production planning. Status reporting also enables the execution of quality scenarios and more sophisticated supervision processes. Interfaced with an ERP or Production Management package providing links to work/planned orders, the module provides feedback on productivity rates (OEE, ORR, EIRR) in a single click. INTEGRATION within NCSIMUL SOLUTIONS Portfolio – Main BENEFITS A component of the NCSIMUL SOLUTIONS portfolio from SPRING Technologies, NCSIMUL DNC is seamlessly integrated with the other modules: NCSIMUL Machine (machining simulation), NCSIMUL Tool (cutting tool management) and NCSIMUL Publisher (technical content publishing). For example, once a program has been simulated and checked, NCSIMUL DNC can authorize direct transfer to the NC Machine. The 3D film produced by the simulation (np3 file) can be stored and associated with a program in NCSIMUL DNC. An operator in the workshop who wants more insight into the program, scheduled to run on the machine, can use NCSIMUL Player to preview the operation on a PC or any touch screen devices. Another advantage for a company equipped with NCSIMUL Tool is that operators can load the cutting tool onto the machines automatically at the same time as the tool gauges and the associated NC program. The tool sheets, and machining job sheets and self-inspection documents generated by the other

NCSIMUL SOLUTIONS modules can also be associated with the NC programs in NCSIMUL DNC. Olivier BELLATON, General Manager, explains: “SPRING Technologies aims to make the day-to-day workshop experience more comfortable and productive. We cut out the errors that arise out of manual operations. Operators are free to devote more time to tasks that generate added value. Our main focus is on delivering solutions that are really easy to use and contribute to the smart factory.”

TracePartsOnline.net Traffic Now IVW-Certified 20 February 2013 TraceParts, a global provider of 3D marketing services, announced that the traffic of its engineering portal TracePartsOnline.net has been certified since December 2012 by IVW, the independent organization that certifies and audits the circulations of major print and online publications in Germany. “IVW membership and certification allow us to provide our customers and partners with reliable, verifiable and audited traffic numbers. The objective IVW measurement gives part vendors a neutral validation of their product catalogs exposure, as well as of their advertising messages. Last month IVW measured over 475,000 visitors and 3.8 million page impressions with banner ads for TracePartsOnline.net, excluding our partners’ sites. We know it’s a convincing argument for our online services. And we are strongly committed to demonstrating accuracy, reliability and credibility for all the data we publish, not only for our catalog content but also for our traffic results.” explains Christian Baumgärtner, TraceParts GmbH Managing Director. To ensure that online media do not exaggerate their audience, visitor numbers and page impressions, there are various institutions engaged in checking the figures given, whose job it is to monitor and verify these details independently. One of the best-known institutions involved in this is the IVW, who has been determining and verifying media circulation in a neutral, impartial way since 1949. As an inspection body that is independent of the state, non-commercial and neutral, the IVW provides the media and advertising industry with vital data for marketing media. As the first and only organization of its kind as a world-leading B2B portal for the construction industry with over 100 million free CAD models, TracePartsOnline.net is therefore entitled to display the coveted IVW mark which symbolizes neutral and independent quality control.
