IntroductionLife is a game. The world is our playing field and we are all players, aspiring to enjoy the game and win in some way. The extent to which we enjoy the game, and whether or not we win, depends on how well we learn and apply the rules. Yes, there are rules (laws) that we must obey to be a winner.

While most religious books teach us the fundamentals for achieving joy, happiness and freedom, there is no definitive guide book on how to play the game of life effectively. Perhaps there never will be. We must learn the rules as we play.

Everything happens for a reason no matter how random it may appear to be. You have asked for this book either consciously or subconsciously and now you have received. Somewhere inside of you there has been a yearning for change or explanation, and that has led you to this moment — right here, right now, with this book right before you!

In this unique book, incorporating our innovative trademarked concepts, we hope to expedite your betterment.

Our Perspective

Although this book is about success, it’s critical we start with a crystal clear definition.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

2

We believe that true success is to realise a worthy goal, one that engenders a sense of fulfillment. It starts with

finding purpose and meaning in one’s life.

Let’s be clear: as far as success principles are concerned, there are really no new ideas, just new ways of presenting ideas.

Each of us has a map or understanding of reality. For the vast majority of us, that map is incomplete. Imagine navigating a vast new territory or region with an incomplete map! Without all the pieces, life too would be an ongoing challenge and a frustrating experience.

This book changes everything! It fills in the missing pieces and complete your map of reality. In doing so, it will move you from one dimension to another, and to a whole new understanding of life and what it really takes to be successful!

We borrow freely from the best thinkers from the East and West, but we do not promote any one religion. All religions are sacred.

You’ll encounter concepts that will challenge your thinking. But just because something is new or different doesn’t mean that it’s not true.

Imagine you’d never seen the stars at night, and one sunny day I pointed to the clear, blue sky and told you that there were countless bright, shinning stars up there

Introduction

3

beyond the Earth. I’d have a hard time convincing you. But at night you’d be dazed with awe and wonder!

So read with an open mind. Stop and consider. These teachings will help you accomplish the seemingly IMPOSSIBLE …and make you realise your dreams and your incredible potential as a human being.

The Truth Be Told: Success is Predictable!

There are laws, (or call them rules or principles) governing success. These are the same laws that govern all life and they’re accessible to everyone, regardless of who you are, where you hang your hat, how old you are, or who you chose for parents. This means that success is attainable by ANYONE who chooses to learn and apply these laws.

We can base a prediction of success on how someone goes about getting what they want. There are behaviours that can serve you in achieving your desired outcomes and there are behaviours that can hinder you.

KEY POINTIf you want to be successful, you need to think and act like successful people do.

Small Changes; Big Differences

You can see it everywhere — how just the slightest edge provides extraordinary rewards! For example, a horse that

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

4

wins a race by a nose (that is, it finishes just the length of its nose in front of the horse that comes next) is only a fraction of a second faster than the horse that is placed second. The winning horse earns considerably more — Dunaden won $3.6 million in the 2011 Melbourne Cup; the second place getter, $900 000.

Similarly, a small improvement in your performance can make a big difference in your life. Learn and master this book’s keys to success, and you can make small changes that will make big differences in your life.

Virend’s Experience

I wanted more out of life. After more than twenty-five years as a salaried professional, as well as engaging in various unprofitable part-time ventures, I yearned for change.

Through an unusual sequence of ‘coincidences’, I was guided to a business concept that had absolutely no appeal to me! However, I kept an open mind, bought into the idea, and that was the start of an amazing journey of immense personal growth and development that led to my financial freedom within three years.

My first two years were extremely challenging. I made very little visible progress; it was a period of chaos and confusion because I was not mentally prepared for the trial and error process of entrepreneurship. But, amidst that chaos and confusion, I learnt some powerful truths about life and success. Above all, I learnt that:

Introduction

5

● your life only gets better when you become better by improving YOURSELF!

● prosperity comes from creating value for OTHERS!

I have experienced my fair share of failure and hard knocks. But, by taking action and learning from my personal experiences, I’ve built a very successful business that generates a respectable, steady, passive income that allows me to enjoy a very comfortable and relaxing lifestyle.

There is only one success — to be able to spend your life in your own way.

~ Christopher Morley

For me, the business environment has been particularly conducive to my growth and expansion. For others, it could be the family or a service organisation or something else.

To achieve notable success in any endeavour, it’s critical to STUDY SUCCESS to uncover the success skills, tendencies or qualities in successful people. My extensive analytical skills put me in a unique position to unravel these mysteries. This book is the culmination of 25 years of that analysis and subsequent synthesis of success principles I discovered and applied to build a successful business.

There have been many interesting experiences in my life that I cannot explain. What I do know is that a higher

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

power exists, and this power works with you and through you to manifest your beliefs and desires in life.

Verusha’s Experience

From the time I was eight years old, every Friday evening (except during school breaks) my dad ran a mentoring session for family and friends. Dad taught us about the incredible power of the mind and its potential to achieve the miraculous. Those hours were filled with stories of extraordinary achievements, wise words from great philosophers and spiritual teachers. We even did practical activities to help us focus on our goals. We learnt that our words and thoughts have the power to shape our lives, and of the importance of visualisation in creating what we wanted.

Those Friday nights shaped my life in ways I can’t explain. Looking back, I realise that I subconsciously absorbed a lot of self-development and motivational acumen, sometimes without even wanting to! Now it’s imbedded in my DNA!

Dad’s car was a mobile classroom, too. Without fail, there was an audio tape or CD playing, or a motivational speaker sharing insights on life and success. IT USED TO DRIVE ME UP THE WALL!

As a teenager, all I wanted to do in the car was listen to music and tune out, which was impossible to do with Dr Norman Vincent Peale, Og Mandino or some other

Introduction

7

well known expert blasting through the speakers. But, without me realising it, I started to internalise their wisdom until I could practically quote key phrases word for word. Pretty soon I really started to believe the messages I heard.

Ever since, whenever I wanted to change something about my life, I would draw upon what I learnt and eventually things would start to change. In fact, I had aspirations to get a great job with a reputable publishing company. Then, when I decided that I wanted to join Hay House, a series of ‘coincidences’ lead me there.

Working for Hay House, I met, interviewed and was privileged to write about authors who had inspired me in my formative years. It’s moments like these that reinforce my belief in what I was taught, especially about the power of positive thinking to manifest a desired outcome.

I hope this book takes you on an incredible journey, an adventure where you might scale your personal mountains, fight your fears, laugh unexpectedly and discover the greatest potential that lies within you.

The Success Map

PART 1

The Law is Sacred

10

Chapter 1Your Invisible Partner in Success

You already have a partner in success. That’s right! You have the best imaginable partner who works with you to achieve your highest goals.

Your partner is vibrant, creative and alive. Your partner wants you to succeed. Your partner has the immense power to orchestrate your success. Yes, you read correctly — to actually organise your success. All you have to do is summon the help of your partner by expressing your intent and showing resolve.

ACKNOWLEDGING your partner may be a turning point in your life — a truly defining moment.

Your Invisible Partner in Success

11

The Wondrous Universe

To understand your partner in success, let’s first expand our understanding about that partner, the Universe. Your success is inextricably connected with your understanding about the Universe.

There is absolute precision and order in the way the Universe operates. Look at nature and see the perfect, harmonious way it functions to keep a balance between all living things. What we are experiencing is a cosmic power called a Universal Intelligence or Universal Consciousness. It is this cosmic power that makes our hearts beat, changes the seasons, grows all life, and spins the Earth and the planets around the sun to give us day and night.

Now, consider our Earth. We live on one planet within the vast Milky Way Galaxy. Our sun, which is about one million times bigger than Earth, is one of the Milky Way’s 200 billion stars. Galaxies in the Universe? Billions — an uncountable number. We live on a tiny part of an awesome Universe.

You and the Universe

Despite the vastness on the Cosmos, we are here for a reason. When we realise what that reason is, it becomes our responsibility to fulfill it and live life ON purpose and WITH purpose.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

12

The Universe’s perfect order gives rise to the laws of nature that govern its operation. It is not likely that our orderly universe happened by chance. Earth is 150 million kms from the sun. Any closer, it would burn up and the oceans would boil away; farther away, Earth would freeze. Surely such a perfect organisation requires a creative force. It is therefore very reasonable to believe that a supreme, intelligent force brought into existence the Universe, including the Earth and the great and wondrous diversity of life inhabiting it.

Regardless of what we call it or how science and religion define it, it’s clear that there’s a force out there, an intelligence or presence that operates mysteriously beyond its own creation.

KEY POINTRecognising that this force exists is fundamental to our wellbeing.

People refer to this intelligent force by a wide variety of names, such as God, Allah, Christ, Krishna, Nature, Spirit, Creator, the Source, the Divine, Shunyata, Yahweh, Ein Sof, Gaia, Universal Consciousness or simply as the Universe. As we stated earlier, we are not promoting any one religion. We use the terms God, the Universe and Universal Consciousness interchangeably, according to which is most appropriate at the time.

For a start, let’s say that everything in existence, including you, is Universal Consciousness expressing itself in some form.

Your Invisible Partner in Success

13

Let’s delve into this a little deeper.

You are Everything (a Quick Review!)

Everything in existence is made up of atoms.

Inside an atom are electrons, protons and neutrons; inside them are subatomic particles, which have fancy names such as quarks, leptons and bosons. These are all zipping around endlessly — is it a coincidence that a microscopic atom and the macroscopic solar system have the same structural design?

Scientists believe that subatomic particles might not be particles after all, but waves. Yes, waves of energy. Nothing solid at all, anywhere!

For example, the electrons in the atoms which make up a sheet of paper are moving so fast they give the illusion of solid ink on solid paper. That solidity is just an illusion. If all the electrons stopped moving, the sheet would not just crumble into dust, it would disappear into nothingness!

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

14

KEY POINTNothing is as solid as it appears; everything is energy. This is the single great Law of the Universe!

THIS IS SCIENTIFIC FACT: Everything is constantly vibrating and pulsating, even ‘immovable’ rock! The book (or ebook) you are reading is vibrating energy, giving the illusion of being solid. We cannot see those vibrations because our senses can’t perceive vibrations of that speed. Everything in the environment around you is simply energy of different frequencies. This is also true of your body. You are just a bundle of energy.

We know that the universe is governed and orchestrated by a grand intelligence. Everything in existence is connected to this grand intelligence. You are an individual manifestation of this intelligence. You are connected to it, hence its creative power is in you and available to you all the time. To access this creative power, all you need do is summon it by invoking your emotions. Yes, Universal Consciousness responds to human emotion —feelings of pain, pleasure, attraction, repulsion, enjoyment, distress, anger, fear, anticipation and so on. Emotion is the language it understands. Emotions change your vibrational state and set the Law of Attraction into motion. (More about this later.)

KEY POINTYou communicate with Universal Consciousness through your emotions.

Your Invisible Partner in Success

15

Understanding this profound truth, and harnessing the power of emotions to communicate your desires to the Universal Consciousness, can help you create outcomes beyond your wildest expectations.

This is so because Universal Consciousness is already your partner in success.

Hidden Truths

1. You already have a partner in success. 2. Your partner is the living Universe!3. Acknowledging your partner is fundamental to

your wellbeing.4. You communicate with the Universe through your

feelings or emotions.

16

Chapter 2The Unbreakable Laws of the Universe

To live a harmonious life, you must abide by the laws of your country and with the natural Laws of the Universe.

Gravity is an example of a universal law. So is Conservation of Energy, that is: energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another. Universal Laws are consistent and unchanging. You interact with these laws with every breath you take. Nothing about your life has been casual or accidental!

The Universal Laws are mysterious. They have hidden truths. When you identify these hidden truths and utilise them correctly, amazing results occur in your life. It may manifest as suddenly having money when you need it the most, reversing a life threatening disease, or succeeding in a particular endeavour. These ‘miracles’, no matter

The Unbreakable Laws of the Universe

17

how incredible they might be, are not unbelievable outcomes. They are NATURAL outcomes based on the correct application of specific laws of nature.

It’s easy to think that some people are born into affluence and all good things happen to them. The truth is, these people aren’t simply lucky; good things don’t just ‘happen’ to them. They are just applying the Laws of the Universe more effectively than others, whether they are aware of it or not. The laws are flawless; they work perfectly every time, all the time. If you seem to be doing all the right things, but your results are poor, consider the Laws of the Universe and how you are applying them. This book will help you.

How many laws are there? Many. The supreme Law of the Universe is the Law of Cause and Effect, also referred to as karma or the parable of reaping what you sow. For every effect there is a cause; for every action there is a reaction. Positive action equates to a positive result.

Everyone is subject to these same natural Laws of the Universe, regardless of race, colour, creed or gender. The laws exert their influence on us without our consent or awareness. When we choose the behaviour, we choose the consequences. Interestingly, the people who are frustrated in life consistently try to defy the natural laws. And, not surprisingly, successful people live in harmony with the natural Laws of the Universe.

Deepak Chopra, an authority in mind-body medicine, identified these issues in his bestselling book, The Seven

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

18

Spiritual Laws of Success, saying ‘no debt in the universe ever goes unpaid. There is a perfect accounting system in this universe, and everything is a constant “to and fro” exchange of energy’.

KEY POINTAll of life is connected; what we do to others, we do to ourselves.

If you cause others to experience prosperity and wellbeing, it will come back to you and you will experience it as well, often multiplied.

According to the principle of karma, any negative or positive thought or action remains that way, until it expends (uses up) its energy by acting upon the originator. The energy you create through your thoughts, words and deeds — either negative or positive — will rebound and act on you!

Eighteenth century German poet and philosopher, Wolfgang Von Goethe wrote:

Nature understands no jesting; she is always true, always serious, always severe; she is always right, and the errors and faults are always those of man. The man incapable of appreciating her, she despises and only to the apt, the pure, and the true, does she resign herself and reveal her secrets.

The Law of Cause and Effect is the iron law of the universe. It is unyielding. If you defy this law, there will be consequences.

The Unbreakable Laws of the Universe

19

This beautiful fable illustrates the mystifying and sometimes illusive nature of the Law of Cause and Effect.

The Secret to Creating Affluence

A young man went to the forest and said to his spiritual master, ‘I want to have unlimited wealth, to help and heal the world. What is the secret to wealth?’

The spiritual master said, ‘There are two Goddesses that reside in the heart of every human being: the Goddess of WEALTH and the Goddess of KNOWLEDGE.’

‘Although you love both, you must pursue one of them to the exclusion of the other. Pursue her, love her, and give her your attention. Understand that only the Goddess of Wealth can give you wealth, and you may pursue only one Goddess, not both.’

‘But, here is the secret: If you pursue the Goddess of Wealth, she will be pleased with you because she loves to be chased. The more you pursue her the more she will elude you. However, if you pursue the Goddess of KNOWLEDGE, the Goddess of WEALTH will become extremely jealous and pay more attention to you. In fact, the more you seek the Goddess of Knowledge, the more the

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

20

Goddess of Wealth will seek you. She will never leave you. She will constantly shower you with material blessings just to win your attention, and the wealth you desire will be yours forever.’

Adapted from (Chopra, 1993)

The human tendency is to pursue the Goddess of Wealth, which seems like the logical choice. However, wealth is simply an effect, and like any effect it has a cause. In the fable, pursuing one goddess gets you both; wealth comes from the acquisition and proper application of knowledge.

So, let’s be clear: your goals and dreams will manifest when you and the Laws of the Universe are in harmony! These laws prevail regardless of whether we heed them or not. Those who live in harmony with the Laws of the Universe will emerge victorious. Bestselling author, Bob Proctor, summed it up perfectly when he said,

You are living and working in a dynamic global marketplace that leaves little room for error. In future, only those individuals whose beliefs are sound, in harmony with the laws of the universe, and have been integrated with their behavior, will emerge as real winners.

(Proctor 2011)

The Unbreakable Laws of the Universe

21

You can experience life’s rewards (the Law of Receiving) when you truly understand that you have immense, untapped ability, and you combine that understanding with deliberate application of the Law of Attraction and the Law of Action. These are the three key laws of manifestation that interact to create abundance in your life. Use these laws in cohesion to expedite your success and achieve better results.

Hidden Truths

1. The Law of Cause and Effect transcends time, space or form. It operates whether you are aware of it or not.

2. Every human thought, word or deed is a cause that sets off a wave of energy resulting in desirable or undesirable effects.

3. The energy you create through your thoughts, words and deeds, be it negative or positive, will come back multiplied and act on you!

The Law of Consciousness

Chapter 3You Are a Living Magnet

YOU are totally unique! You are different from everyone else around you. There is only one you. Some people believe that it is conceited to think of yourself as important — but you are. You have a significant contribution to make in this lifetime on planet Earth.

Within you is the power to BE, DO and HAVE anything you want. To harness your inherent power you must first acknowledge its existence.

A Hindu legend aptly describes the divine power inherent in each of us.

There was a time when men were gods. But they abused their divine powers so much that Lord Brahma, the master of all gods, decided

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

26

to take these powers away and hide them in a place where they would be impossible to find.

The lesser gods debated the issue of the hiding place. They suggested: ‘Why not bury man’s powers in the earth?’ Lord Brahma replied, ‘No, that will not do because man would dig deep and find them.’

Then the gods said, ‘We will send their divinity to the deepest depths of the ocean.’

But Lord Brahma replied again, ‘Sooner or later man will explore the depths of the ocean and he will find those powers and bring them to the surface.’

The lesser gods concluded, ‘Neither land nor sea is a place where man’s divine powers will be safely hidden. Therefore there is no place to hide them.’

At that moment Lord Brahma exclaimed, ‘This is what we will do with man’s divinity! We will hide it deep within him because that is the only place he will not think to look.’

From then on, according to the legend, man searched the world over; he explored, climbed, dove and dug in search of something that was inside himself the whole time.

(Baba, 2005)

You Are a Living Magnet

27

It is also written that people are created in the same image and likeness of God. You might be familiar with the following quote:

Ye are Gods and the spirit of God dwells within you.~ Corinthians 3:16

What this means is that you are divine. Often, our divinity is buried under layers of fear, doubt, uncertainty, grief, anger, unworthiness and incorrect conclusions from past experiences. It is up to us to peel back those layers of beliefs that limit us, find our true nature and live our lives with purpose.

Choose to access this power and you will improve your life and the lives of others.

Here’s the best news of all: it doesn’t matter if you have failed in the past, because failure is the stepping stone to success! Failure is normal. It happens. If fact, you’d be hard pressed to find a highly successful person who hasn’t actually had more failures than successes.

Here are a few well-known examples.

● As an inventor, Thomas Edison made more than 1000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.

● Winston Churchill was defeated in every election for public office until he became Prime Minister at the age of 62.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

28

● Colonel Sanders was rejected over 1000 times before he obtained funding for his first franchise for KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken).

Your past failure is not an indication of your future, nor is it an indication of your potential.

KEY POINTYou can accomplish great things by understanding and developing your potential and becoming a master of yourself rather than a victim of your circumstances.

The aim of life is to be happy. Aristotle taught that the ultimate aim or purpose of human life is to achieve personal happiness. When we are happy we are truly enjoying life; we are doing the things that we love and sharing that happiness with those around us. When we are happy our every thought and our every action is coming from a positive and liberating place.

As Within, So Without

Being successful in life is about self mastery. It’s about transforming yourself from the inside out. It is said that if you don’t go within, ‘you go without.’

We live and operate in the context of two worlds: the world within and the world without. They are not two separate entities, but rather two elements of the same essence. The world within is intangible because it is

You Are a Living Magnet

29

mental and spiritual. The world without is material and physical. Both have shaped your destiny and will continue to do so for the rest of your life.

KEY POINTIt is the world within that creates the world without. The world within is the cause; the world without is the effect.

Your outer world is simply a reflection of your inner world of thought and emotion. If you want to change your experiences of your outer world, it is imperative that you make some changes within.

This inner world or inner being is who you really are, and, as such, is imbued with God-like qualities. When you tap into this inner being you transform your life from striving to thriving. It is your responsibility to harness your innate power for your own highest good and the greater good of all.

You Are a Living Magnet

A profound quote!

People do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.

~ James Allen

James Allen says that people attract that which they are. So, the question is not, ‘Who are you?’, but ‘What are

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

30

you?’ The answer then is: YOU ARE A MAGNET! Let us elaborate.

Remember our atom analogy? Everything is energy. You are simply a bundle of energy radiating an energy field. More specifically, you are a unique collection of conscious, living energy that creates your individual consciousness which, in turn, is an infinitesimal yet integral part of Universal Consciousness. If you are radiating love or anger, you will attract more of the same experiences into your life.

As a living organism, you are a living magnet. You have electric and magnetic properties. Your entire body is a field of electromagnetic energy.

As such, you have an incredible power of attraction.

KEY POINTLike attracts like. You attract the things you like and want; the things with which you resonate.

When you change your inner energy or consciousness, you change your results in life. This is effectively how you invoke the Law of Attraction.

Your job is to grow in your divine nature and contribute to making the world a better place, thereby living a purposeful life and ultimately fulfilling your true purpose: self realisation — connecting with your self and realising your God-like nature.

You Are a Living Magnet

31

Hidden Truths

1. You are divine. Your soul is the individualised essence of God.

2. You operate from two worlds. It is the world within that creates the world without.

3. ‘People do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.’

4. You are a vibrational being. By vibrating at a higher level of consciousness, you counteract the collective negativity of thousands of others.

32

Chapter 4Your Greatest Challenge – It’s Easier to Conquer Than You Think

Do you want to be happier, more prosperous, experience more meaning and satisfaction, and pursue the things you like in life?

Most people want an enriched and fulfilling life. Such a quest requires serious change in a person’s life, and that change has to come from within. This is what self improvement is all about — being willing to improve oneself.

Life is growth, and growth is change. Growth demands change. Change can be painful. Resisting change is resisting growth. Resisting growth denies you success.

Your Greatest Challenge– It’s Easier to Conquer Than You Think

33

To create your positive future, you need to make it happen and step beyond social norms that make for new discoveries and social progress.

Enlightened Thought:

Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger…

for the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and

griefs we endurehelp us in our marching onward.

~ Henry Ford

Success is a journey, not a destination. Success is dynamic; it constantly evolves. To experience more success, it is crucial to become more valuable as a person. The more valuable you become to others, the more they will seek you out. Increase your value; express that value through contribution to the betterment of others. This equates to leading a successful life.

Alvin Toffler put it perfectly when he said:

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

(Gibson, 1998)

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

34

KEY POINTTrue wealth, or true abundance in life, comes only after you stop focusing on the money and you start focusing on doing something that’s going to improve you personally.

Success inspires a thirst for greater achievement. With each achievement, you operate from a new and higher level. The achievement of one goal spurs you on to new and bigger goals. Such is our nature.

To achieve a certain outcome, you need to be in vibrational resonance with the outcome you want to manifest. Your desire for that outcome will attract opportunities; they often come dressed in work clothes!

Develop a Success Mindset

The mindset of successful people is distinctly unlike the rest. Successful people think and act differently. They consistently defy conformity, doing things that others will not do so that they can achieve results that others believe they cannot. To be the best, it is imperative to go against the grain of conventional wisdom.

To recreate a new reality, reinvent yourself. It is not pos- sible to change your current life with the same thinking that created it. Eradicate the mindset that created your present circumstance to open the way for a success mindset. Success in life requires a single shift in mindset, from a position of powerlessness to a position of true power.

Your Greatest Challenge– It’s Easier to Conquer Than You Think

35

How does one begin this shift?

Change from…

● Thinking lack and limited supply TO thinking abundance and unlimited supply

● Short term, immediate gratification thinking TO long term, delayed gratification thinking

● Win-lose thinking TO win-win thinking ● Security thinking TO opportunity thinking ● Survival consciousness TO prosperity consciousness ● Competing and cloning TO collaborating and creating ● Focusing on getting TO focusing on giving ● Making an impression TO making a difference.

If you are feeling frustrated with your life, you have relinquished your freedom to consciously create your own life experiences, the very thing that ultimately brings you joy. Effectively, you are stuck. To move forward, it is necessary to become unstuck.

KEY POINTEmbrace your passions. Success comes faster when we do the things we enjoy and want to do.

When you consider the many elements that have influenced and shaped your current reality, you may realise that there is much to undo and reprogram. However, when you understand your divine nature and the unfaltering natural Laws of the Universe, you operate from a higher level of understanding. You are able to see in your mind’s eye how your thoughts, words and deeds

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

36

affect your outcomes in life. Such a realisation releases you from a victim mentality.

KEY POINTUnderstanding how your past created your present empowers you to recreate your future.

Your Comfort Zone

The average person has dreams and aspirations for a better life, usually involving lifestyle and material objects. As we grow older and wiser we may realise that there is more to life than material wealth. Finding purpose and meaning in life will eventually become the ultimate goal.

If you are ‘normal’, you have a comfort zone, generally considered a mental rather than a physical space. There are countless behaviors that thwart success in life by imprisoning you in your comfort zone.

Your comfort zone will challenge you every step of the way to success. It’s the Universe’s way of preparing you to receive your desired outcome.

To make progress in life and achieve your dreams, you will have to engage in new and different experiences. Progress in life requires that you constantly confront and overcome challenging situations.

Humans are creatures of habit, but achieving your goals demands that you become more than you are now. Push

Your Greatest Challenge– It’s Easier to Conquer Than You Think

37

and expand the boundary of your comfort zone doing things that you would not normally do, even taking risks or doing things that might make you look clumsy or foolish. It is precisely in these challenging moments when the real growth takes place.

It is only by constantly pushing the boundary of the comfort zone that you will grow in consciousness to a level that resonates and matches with your dreams. Sometimes it takes many years, even decades, to reach a certain level of competency in something.

KEY POINTTo reach any significant goal, you must leave your comfort zone.

Virend overcame asthma through sheer tenacity, by constantly pushing the boundary of his comfort zone.

As a child I suffered with chronic asthma. When I was about 5 or 6 my grandmother told my mother, ‘I don’t know how long this child will live’.

I was born and raised in South Africa during the apartheid regime. I guess I was one of the fortunate few because close to my home was a public swimming pool, one of four built for people of Indian origin in the country. It was about half the size of an Olympic pool.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

38

During peak periods the pool was overcrowded with literally no room to swim anywhere, except in the deep end because not everyone was an adept swimmer. So, if you could swim a few strokes, it was better to venture into the deep end.

At first, I could only do two or three strokes before I ran out of breath. As there was no room to practise in the shallow end, I decided to do what some of the other kids did, which was to hold tightly onto the railing, go to the far corner of the deep end and then swim diagonally across the corner from one wall to the other.

Now, if you are an asthmatic capable of swimming three strokes and somebody got in your way, you would be in serious trouble. Those who could swim adequately would jump into the pool almost anywhere, so my path was often obstructed.

This forced me to gasp for breath and do one or two strokes more than I could comfortably do to reach the other wall. I often swallowed water as I struggled to reach the other side. The pool superintendent sometimes caught me out and directed me back to the shallow end where swimmers of my calibre belonged.

Your Greatest Challenge– It’s Easier to Conquer Than You Think

39

But I loved playing in the pool. So I often stayed ‘till the early evening, when the pool was quieter, to practise my strokes.

The time came when I was able to swim four or five strokes continuously with greater comfort. As the summers came and went, I found that I was getting better and better. Whenever I reached my limit, I would say to myself, ‘one more’. This phrase became my mantra. When I was totally exhausted, I would say ‘one more’, always trying to beat my previous best. Slowly but steadily, I progressed from five strokes to six strokes to seven and so on, until I could do a whole lap non-stop!

Of course, I did not stop there. I kept pushing the boundary of my comfort zone. I became a very strong swimmer and in my teens I swam competitively and even qualified as a surf lifesaver.

Tenacity and asthma do not get along. When my asthma could no longer deal with my inner strength, it left for good.

If you want to get better, you must push past your limits, doing more than you think you can do. This is where the real growth occurs.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

40

KEY POINTDon’t simply do your best; do what it takes.

Each of us has two natures; one that wants to move forward and another that wants to pull back. In time, as we experience life, one of these natures will dominate.

It is your choice as to which nature will dominate.

Hidden Truths

1. True wealth, or abundance in life, comes only after you stop focusing on the money and you start focusing on doing something that’s going to improve you personally.

2. To achieve a certain outcome, you need to be in vibrational resonance with the outcome you want to manifest.

3. Your dreams lie outside your comfort zone.4. To reach any significant goal, you must leave your

comfort zone; you must push past your limits, doing more than you think you can do.

41

Chapter 5Finally…The Absolute Truth about Prosperity

About 99% of people would define prosperity as the accumulation of a great sum of wealth — plenty of money, large luxurious home, fancy cars, etc. We think of ‘rich’ and ‘prosperous’ as two things that go hand in hand. Prosperity is much more than that. Prosperity is the direct result of two elements: growth and contribution.

Prosperity = Growth + Contribution

KEY POINTGrowth plus contribution are fundamental to success in life.

If you want to grow in affluence, it is essential that you grow in intelligence and wisdom.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

42

If you want success, it is prudent to first develop the qualities of success. True prosperity comes from creating value for others i.e. contributing to society. You can only effectively do so when you have increased your personal growth.

The great poet and India’s first Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, said it best:

I slept and dreamt that life was joyI awoke and found that life was dutyI acted, and behold!Duty was joy.

Prosperity is an Effect

Diagram 5.1

Finally…The Absolute Truth about Prosperity

43

This diagram, the Success Continuum®, is a diagrammatic representation of the equation:

Prosperity = Growth + Contribution.

It is a simple line graph where the horizontal axis is growth and contribution; and the vertical axis is prosperity. The curved line is your personal learning or growth curve, the continuum. The expanding circles represent you, or your position on the curve, as you push the boundary of your comfort zone and evolve over time. There are infinite positions on the curve, and, according to your level of consciousness at any given time in your life, you express your identity at a particular point.

When expressed purely in monetary terms, the Success Continuum® shows that your level of prosperity will be determined by the extent of your own growth and contribution. The more you grow and contribute, the greater your capacity to earn. New skills and abilities, new attitudes, new beliefs and new behaviours attract greater prosperity into your life. The more valuable you become to others, the more value you will receive in return.

Nobel prize winner, Rabindranath Tagore perfectly sums up the concept of receiving value by becoming valuable.

Everything comes to us that belongs to usif we create the capacity to receive it.

Your responsibility is to establish where on the Success Continuum® you are today, and then determine where

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

44

you want to be at some future date. We will use income in this example simply because money is important to live well and it is what most people relate to when we talk about prosperity. Let’s assume that you are earning $100 000 pa (shown as 100K in the diagram) and, let’s also assume that that amount is much less than what you need for the kind of life you desire. Let’s say that you would like to earn $300 000 per annum (pa), which is three times more than your current income.

To achieve that target, you need to examine that gap very consciously and then decide what you would need to do to bridge that gap. You will quickly discover that the only way you can close the gap by growing and becoming more valuable as a person, and contributing, by applying yourself to create value for others.

The simple truth is that your income will only grow to the extent that you do.

KEY POINTYou cannot attract and keep more than the level of your consciousness allows.

Using income as an example, if you have a $35 000 pa mindset, then that is all you will attract. It is not surprising that many million dollar lottery winners are broke within five years! They simply don’t have a million dollar mindset. They have a short term or immediate gratification mindset.

Extrapolating further, if we took all the money in the world and distributed it evenly to every man, woman

Finally…The Absolute Truth about Prosperity

45

and child, within a relatively short period, a significant uneven distribution would arise. Most of the money will end up in the hands of those with a prosperity conscious mindset.

Your experience of life matches your level of prosperity consciousness. In other words, as you grow in life’s experiences, you automatically grow in your level of consciousness. So, consciousness equates to reality!

Consciously ascending the continuum means going on a spiritual path. Deepak Chopra reminds us that we are not human beings who have occasional spiritual experiences. We are actually spiritual beings who have (occasional) human experiences.

Your world and what you are experiencing at this point in time is a direct reflection of how you vibrate energy. If you want to know at what level you have been vibrating, look at your life. You are a product of your past thoughts and behaviours. Your past has created your present, but, remember, your past does not determine your future.

Negative feelings — fears, doubts, uncertainties, resentments, jealousy, etc. — cause a slide down the vibrational continuum. Conquer these feelings, one at a time and you will climb the vibrational continuum.

You can change your vibration or level of consciousness any time you choose by further growth and contribution. The bigger your desired outcome, the more you must grow in consciousness.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

46

Chapter 6The Stuff that Dreams are REALLY Made Of

The Evolution of Consciousness

If we change our thinking, we change our lives.

The more you understand how your thoughts create your life experiences, the more powerful you will become as a creator of your own reality. Thoughts create destiny.

When you allow others to impose their views or beliefs upon you, you give up your control to shape your life. It is up to you to take conscious and deliberate control of your thoughts to shape your own destiny.

All things are created MENTALLY first, then they are created physically. The basis of all creation is thought.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

48

First you have them and then they have you because they become part of your make-up or character. They characterise you. You act in a manner consistent with your thinking.

KEY POINTYou become what you think about most of the time.

Often we are told that to change our results in life we must develop new behaviours. The truth is that we cannot change anything in our life without first changing the originating cause.

Internationally renowned author and speaker, Dr. Wayne Dyer writes:

…all of our behaviour results from the thoughts that preceded it...so the thing to work on is not your behaviourbut the thing that caused your behaviour, your thoughts.

Take a moment to notice the world you have created around you. It is the sum total of your thoughts!

Here is one of our favourite excerpts.

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the universe.A thought in this substance produces the thing imaged by the thought.

The Stuff that Dreams are REALLY Made Of

49

A person can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

(Wattles, 2002)

To paraphrase this quote: everything in existence is made from the same stuff — thinking stuff. This stuff is found everywhere there appears to be empty space. It permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the universe. But, as we know, there is really no empty space because the space is filled with this invisible thinking stuff, which we know as thoughts. This is the very stuff that dreams are made of — literally!

Thought is cause and form is effect.

However, if thoughts lack emotional intensity they will have little effect. Emotion or feeling is the key element in the manifestation process. Emotion is the accelerator! The more intense your emotion, the faster you achieve your goal. David Ramsey talks about people taking control of their financial future as having a ‘focused intensity’ and ‘getting mad’ about change. He says:

They got sick and tired of being sick and tired! They said, ‘I’ve had it!’ and went ballistic to change their lives. There is no intellectual exercise where you can academically work your way into wealth; you have to get fired up. There is no energy in logic…

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

50

this is behaviour and motivation modification, and it works!

(Ramsey, 2003)

Have you noticed that as you increase the strength of your emotions, you become more excited, more enthusiastic, more convinced and determined? When this happens, all your inborn cosmic powers are activated and you begin to move rapidly towards your goals, and your goals begin to move rapidly towards you.

To clarify, emotion is the accelerator of the manifestation process. The stronger the emotion, the faster the process of manifestation.

Note that just because you manifested a particular outcome does not mean that you will hold onto that outcome indefinitely. Sustainable success is something you attract according to the person you become. Maintain the level of consciousness at which you attracted the particular outcome, and your prosperity will be sustained.

Hidden Truths

1. Thought is cause and form is effect!2. Things are created mentally before they are created

physically — your thoughts ultimately do become physical things.

3. Emotion is the accelerator of the manifestation process.

Part 2.2

The Law of Belief

52

Chapter 7The Magic of Believing

On your journey through life you have developed beliefs that, in some way, either serve you or disadvantage you. Many beliefs are never questioned, yet they form the basis of how we live our lives and shape our reality.

Believing is Seeing

The belief system is a determining factor of success in anyone’s life. Our life experience is really a mirror of our beliefs. So, by changing our beliefs, we can change our lives.

Often, we hear people say, ‘I’ll believe it only when I see it’.

But, the truth is: believing is seeing, not seeing is believing.

The Magic of Believing

53

If we believe first, then we’ll see or experience the desired result or outcome. Generally, we tend to believe what we see, yet the reality is that we see what we believe.

Believe in Yourself and Your Ideas

There are essentially two elements of belief that are critical to your success in any endeavour:

1. Belief in your dreams and ideas. 2. Belief in yourself.

If you don’t truly believe in your dreams and ideas you won’t generate the emotion that invokes the Law of Attraction, which ultimately draws to you the resources and situations you need to manifest your desired outcome. If you don’t believe in yourself and your ability to accomplish your desired outcome, you certainly won’t give your 100% effort towards achieving it.

If we start something new believing that we won’t succeed, then we most certainly will not succeed. Our belief dictates our results. However, if we persist and start enjoying even small successes, our beliefs change, and what we believe, we see. Franklin D. Roosevelt said: ‘The only limit of our realisation of tomorrow will be our doubts of today’.

Many of us have tiny cracks in our self image and when we allow ourselves or other people to drive the wedge of doubt into those cracks, we set ourselves up for catastrophic failure. Following is an interesting fable,

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

54

which we have modified to illustrate this point. In the fable of the Devil’s Best Tool, the Devil gives journalists a tour of Hell, showing off his various tools for destroying people’s lives. He shows them the greed room, the infidelity room, the weapons room, and so on. Finally, they come to a room with one small item on a pedestal positioned in the beam of a spotlight.

The devil smiled and said, ‘This is the wedge of self-doubt. I drive this wedge in the back of a person’s mind between their abilities and their possibilities. If I create a gap between their abilities and what is truly possible for them, then I can completely destroy a person. In fact, I use this tool every day to destroy millions of lives.’

It’s true. Even the slightest doubt can stop you dead in your tracks.

The good news is that doubt is simply a conditioning of our self image. Eliminating it is a matter of consciously disallowing the wedge of doubt to take up residence in our minds.

KEY POINT Remove the wedge of self doubt in the back of your mind and believe that you have what it takes.

The Magic of Believing

55

Believing in yourself is a choice. Eliminate the phrase ‘I can’t’ and all of its cousins such as ‘I wish’, ‘I hope’, ‘I am not so sure’, ‘It is too hard’, and so on. These words disempower you; using them makes you weaker. Words are powerful. The words you use affect your physiology, which in turn, affects your performance and then your results, and ultimately your reality. James Allen said: belief is the basis of all action.

The story of George Dantzig, (in the book Unstoppable by Cynthia Kersey), is an outstanding example of the power of belief.

Dantzig was a keen mathematics student and he kept late hours. Arriving late to class one day he quickly copied down two problems, assuming they were a homework assignment. He worked on them for several days, not knowing that even Einstein had failed to solve them. Dantzig solved them because he believed he was working on ordinary homework problems. He solved not one, but two problems that had stumped mathematicians for hundreds of years!

Imagine that! Imagine how many great things we could achieve if we just believed that they were possible — or if you DIDN’T KNOW you couldn’t do it!

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

56

How does a person develop this all important thing called ‘belief’?

Take action! Action creates belief. Burn those words into your memory. It’s one of the greatest ‘secrets’ of success. Here is how it works:

Action Creates Experience

Experience Creates Competence

Competence Creates Confidence

Confidence Creates Small Successes

Small Successes Creates Belief

Belief Creates Big Successes

KEY POINTAction is what separates the dreamers from the achievers.

Simply thinking or talking about success will not create the results you want. You have to take consistent and effective action towards the accomplishment of your goals. You have to walk the talk.

The Magic of Believing

57

Expect to Succeed

Living life with positive expectancy produces great rewards. Have an abundance mentality.

According to the Law of Expectation, whatever you expect with confidence BECOMES your reality. If you confidently expect to succeed, you will.

If you expect little, you will get little.

William Somerset Maugham said, ‘It’s a funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it’. So ask, and ask with conviction because, according to Seneca, ‘he who begs timidly, courts a refusal’. Our problem is that we ask too little from life and this is due largely to our conditioning or programming.

Social Programming

What happens to our childhood dreams?

The answer is simple: social or enculturation programming.

Through our social interactions, we get conditioned by our environment, parents, siblings, teachers, colleagues, the media, and so on, teaching us about what life is and how it should evolve. We are conditioned at an early age to deny our creativity and our connected spirituality.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

58

Just like other animals, we learn conditioned responses. Once learned, a conditioned response is hard to overcome. It becomes a part of our consciousness.

A research study at the University of Iowa found that the average two-year-old receives 432 negatively oriented statements a day compared to 32 positively oriented statements. That’s a 14-to-1 ratio.

(Batterson, 2005)

While some of our programming is obvious, much of it is not so apparent. Every day we receive an endless stream of instructions, advice, directions, inducements and expectations from others. This impacts us whether we are aware of it or not.

Of course, not all of our programming is bad. Some of the programming serves to keep us happy, healthy and safe. But, when it impedes our thinking and suppresses creativity, thereby holding us back, many choices remain unexplored and opportunities are missed. As a result of social programming, we develop our core beliefs which make up our unique personality and dictate our individual realities. These beliefs are perceptions of how life works. They are not necessarily true.

Some beliefs literally put a lid on our potential. A number of experiments have shown that humans display the same patterns of conditioning as animals when there are artificial limits on potential. Here are two examples:

The Magic of Believing

59

Fleas in a Jar

Fleas, contained in a jar with the lid on, became conditioned to jump a ‘safe’ height. When the lid was removed, the fleas continued to jump at a ‘safe’ height. Essentially, they accepted the limit imposed on them and thereby imposed it on themselves. They were conditioned to remain trapped in the jar forever!

The Pike Experiment

A pike-fish was once put in a tank with many small minnows. The pike wasted no time making quick work of the minnows.

The next day, a glass partition was placed into the tank dividing the tank in two. The pike repeatedly bumped its head trying to reach its dinner. After a few days, the glass partition was removed from the tank allowing the pike to swim freely amongst the minnows. But the pain of repeated disappointment had exhausted its will. The pike had been conditioned to believe that it could not catch the minnows and died in the midst of a plentiful supply of food.

We humans become conditioned in much the same way as other creatures. If we keep failing, we stop trying until

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

60

someone breaks through, and suddenly a host of others follow.

The Vasily Alexeev Story

Vasily Alexeev, a Soviet weight lifting champion of the 1970s, was the first to break the weight lifting barrier of 500 pounds. He believed 499 pounds was the maximum he could ever lift, but his trainers put 501.5 pounds on his bar, rigged it so it looked like 499 pounds, and he lifted it comfortably.

The Roger Bannister Story

Until Roger Bannister ran a mile in under four minutes, many believed that it was physical impossible. Bannister proved this to be false, and within a year, 37 other runners broke the four minute barrier.

Success and failure begin and end in what we believe is possible. Our beliefs come from within. They are self imposed; they are what we have accepted as true, and the beliefs that hold us back are the only real barriers to our success. It is only when the barrier is broken that we realise it was only in our minds and not real at all!

Through our social programming we have developed preferences and prejudices, likes and dislikes, and

The Magic of Believing

61

specific beliefs and attitudes. If we want to change our outcomes in life, we must change our programming.

Some believe that genes and the environment work together to determine an individual’s propensity for success in life. While it is clear that the environment in which we operate certainly influences our propensity for success, there is no evidence to show that our genes play any role whatsoever.

Going Beyond Your Genes… to Memes

Memes are the basic building blocks of our minds and culture in the same way that genes are the basic building blocks of biological life. The concept comes from an analogy: as genes transmit biological information, memes can be said to transmit ideas and belief information. A meme is ‘an idea, behaviour or style’ that propagates itself and can move through a sociological culture, from one person to another. (Meme, 2012)

Memes are cultural elements that can impact an entire sociological culture. The concept of memes can explain why any group of people holds a particular belief. Here is a classical example of how a meme propagates itself.

The Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon

In 1952, on the island of Koshima, scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

62

dropped in the sand. An 18-month-old female found she could get rid of the sand by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught this trick to her mother and her playmates; they taught their mothers too.

This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by all the young monkeys, but only the adults who imitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes.

One day in 1958, something interesting happened. A certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes. The exact number is not known, so let’s assume there were 99 monkeys washing potatoes. Let’s further assume that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash potatoes.

Then a most amazing phenomenon occurred!

By that evening almost every monkey in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them. The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough!

There is a point at which if only one more person tunes-in to a new awareness, a field is

The Magic of Believing

63

strengthened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone! (This phenomena is also explored in the book The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.)

(The Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon, 2009)

Act according to your intuitive knowing

When a meme becomes established in the world of science or academia it becomes a paradigm, an accepted belief or view. Your paradigm is the collection of the concepts, values and practices, negative and positive, that has been ingrained onto your subconscious mind after years of conditioning.

Your subconscious mind is literal. It does not discriminate in the manner in which it accepts information. It will accept whatever you feed it, whether it is true or not. There are years of indiscriminate acceptance of information stored in your subconscious. The sad truth is that much of this information is incorrect, obsolete or negative, and yet you constantly draw from this storehouse of information to make your day to day decisions.

You can have thousands of paradigms at any one time, and they determine how you interpret the world. Your paradigms influence how you live your life and, ultimately, they shape your destiny.

Negative paradigms like, ‘life is a never-ending struggle’, and ‘I am a victim of my environment’, will set you back.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

64

Positive paradigms like, ‘everything I do turns to gold’ and ‘I am responsible for my outcomes in life’, will propel you forward.

By allowing a negative paradigm to continue, you empower your past instead of your present. The key is not to let your past determine your future.

The first step in making a paradigm shift is for you to acknowledge that something is holding you back from higher levels of achievement.

You Can’t Fix a Problem That You Don’t Acknowledge

The core of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program is contained in twelve steps. When someone signs up to AA the first step is to admit powerlessness over alcohol and an unmanageable life. Bestselling author Stephen R. Covey said:

Until a person can say deeply and honestly, ‘I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,’ that person cannot say, ‘I choose otherwise’.

You cannot succeed with negative beliefs. A paradigm shift is essential.

The Magic of Believing

65

Hidden Truths

1. Believing is seeing; not seeing is believing.2. Action creates belief.3. Your subconscious mind will accept whatever you

feed it, whether it is true or not.4. Social programming is transmitted across physical

boundaries; it can be adopted without us even being aware of it.

5. Until you acknowledge your limiting beliefs you cannot begin the process of effective change. You can’t fix a problem that you don’t acknowledge.

Part 2.3

The Law of Manifestation

67

Chapter 8The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

The Law of Manifestation, which is a component of the Law of Attraction, explains how we create what we want. It may be broken into five sub components and sequenced as follows:

Have a burning desire for success

Clearly define your goal(Name it to claim it)

Act according to your intuitive knowing

Visualise your goal with emotion (What you see is what you get)

Be open to guidance

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

68

Let’s address each component separately.

8.1 Possess a Burning Desire for Success

A burning desire is the first ingredient of success. To have desire is one thing, but to have a burning desire is another thing entirely. All success stories begin with a burning desire. The extent to which you succeed in any endeavour is largely influenced by the intensity of your desire.

A burning desire is intense and urgent. A burning desire is creative power that has to manifest or express itself in the external world. It is an emotional force that attracts.

Whatever it is that you want, it must be personal; it must be something that you really, really want for yourself, not for anybody else. It is said that the hand will not reach for what the heart does not long for.

Let us use an analogy. If you heated water to 99° C, you could make a great cup of tea. But, if you heated that water just one more degree to 100° C, it will boil and generate steam, and you know what you can do with enough steam: move a steamship or a locomotive. That one degree makes a huge difference.

For you to achieve your goal, you must literally be steaming with emotion to:

● Learn whatever you need to learn

The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

69

● Become whatever you need to become ● Do whatever you need to do ● Have whatever you want to have

Achieving your goal has little to do with your ability or intellect. It has to do with heartfelt desire. Genuine desire is powerful! A burning desire focuses attention, establishes commitment and empowers you to deal with any challenge you might encounter as you move towards your goal.

As you are driven forward by your desire, you will develop new skills and abilities, new beliefs, new attitudes and behaviours, and a new sense of self — a whole new consciousness.

8.2 Name It to Claim It

Imagine being blindfolded. A dart is placed in your hand and you are told to hit a target on a wall. Unless you possess extrasensory perception (ESP), you wouldn’t have a clue where your target might be located. In like manner, imagine how difficult it would be to achieve a goal that you haven’t properly defined.

Your Magnificent Vision

Vision is the art of seeing the invisible — to see something with your mind before you see it with your eyes. You can accomplish the impossible if you can see the invisible.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

70

The wealthiest and most successful people have a magnificent vision of the life they want to live. They form a clear and definite mental picture of what they want in the key areas of life: health, wealth, relationships, social, spiritual and whatever else one wishes to include. They articulate their dreams in clear, specific goals for each of the key areas they want to develop. Then they formulate a plan to achieve their specific goals.

Clearly Define Your Goal

Mark Twain said, ‘I can teach anybody to get whatever they want out of life. The problem is that I can’t find anybody who can tell me what they want.’

Whatever it is you desire, it must first be clearly defined. You have to stake your claim to your desired outcome. The most you’ll ever get from life is what you ask for. Thinking about what you want is an excellent first step. But then write a goal statement. Specify exactly what you want and the date by which you intend to have it or achieve it.

Winners most often have written goals and detailed plans for achieving those goals. Winners can tell you where they are going and how they intend to get there. They have a written plan. A bank will not lend money to a business owner who comes to them without a written business plan.

Writing down your goals helps to crystallise your thinking and to generate goal achieving thoughts. It is

The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

71

said that a problem defined is a problem half-solved. In the medical profession they say that correct diagnosis is half the cure.

KEY POINTWriting a goal is a giant step towards its fulfillment.

Written goals have amazing power. They put direction into your life and empower you to face the future. By committing your goals to written form, you immediately give it energy and significantly enhance the likelihood of its manifestation.

When writing your goals, apply the SMART criteria. The terms behind the letters can vary (for example, ‘R’ can mean ‘Realistic’ or ‘T’ can mean ‘Timely’), but typically accepted values are:

Specific The goal must clearly describe the desired outcome to be achieved

Measurable The performance for the goal must be measurable to monitor progress

Attainable The goal should be challenging but achievable

Relevant The goal must be something you really want

Time-bound The goal must have a time frame or deadline for completion

Write your goal in the present tense — as if you have already achieved it. If your goal is to lose a specific

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

72

amount of weight by a certain date, using the SMART approach you would write it as follows:

It is 30th September 2014, I now weigh 62 kilos. I enjoy my healthy eating plan and feel exhilarated when I exercise. I love my body and treat it with respect. I feel proud of my healthy lifestyle. I am thrilled with all the compliments I receive.

Your SMART goal is your target destination.

8.3 See it, Feel it, Get it

Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.

~ Albert Einstein

To manifest your dreams in real life, you need to first visualise them. That which you constantly picture upon the mind you shall eventually have.

So, how does visualisation really work?

The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

73

Visualisation powers your imagination to focus your creative energies on your desired outcome. Whatever you focus your attention on will grow stronger in your life. Whatever you take your attention away from, will grow weaker and cease to exist over time. To speed up the process of achieving your goals, it is important that you constantly visualise them and get emotional about them — see them as already accomplished.

Try this activity:

To activate the Law of Attraction create a picture board with images of all the things you desire: a new house, a better career, a healthier body, running an animal shelter, etc. The process will help you better understand what it is that you really want. There is no point having an image of your dream house if you feel that is never going to happen to you. Choose your images carefully; they must activate an emotional response. Looking at the picture must make you feel joy and excitement. The emotional connection is crucial.

Place your board where you’ll see it daily. Whenever you look at it, see yourself in the picture. Feel what it’s like to already have and experience what the image reflects. The stronger the vibrational energy you emit, the faster you will attract the resources and situations needed for manifesting your desired outcome. Also, recognise that if you cannot see yourself out of an unfavourable situation you’ll remain stuck in that situation indefinitely. Visualise what you want, not what you don’t want!

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

74

Following is a wonderful story, as told by a motivational speaker named Skip Ross, that aptly illustrates the process of manifestation using images and ‘living’ the experience.

The Maserati Story

There was a gentleman who decided that once he achieved a certain level of income in his business he was going to reward himself with a Maserati. From Wheels, a car magazine, he pulled out a full-page picture of a Maserati and stuck it on his wall at home.

Whenever he drove his old car, he imagined he was in his Maserati.

He continued this visualisation until he reached the level of income he desired. He went to the dealership and chose his car, including the particular color he wanted.

But, when he came to pick the car up, there was a problem.

‘This car is not the same colour as the one I ordered, he told the dealership.

It’s similar, but the car I ordered is a subtle shade different.’

The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

75

They agreed and offered him another car, a sports edition, demonstration model, with a new car warranty.

He looked at them and said, ‘No, I didn’t wait all this time for a second-hand car.’

He really didn’t want it, but they insisted he at least look at the car. As soon as the second car entered the room, the customer’s jaw dropped. He was speechless. This was exactly what he was dreaming about.

He drove it home.

Once inside his home he stopped to examine the Maserati picture on his wall and then it hit him. The car sitting on the driveway was a snapshot of his car taken at a motor show!

It seemed like an amazing coincidence, but this was no coincidence. It’s the way the Law of Attraction works.

This story tells us two things.

1. The Law of Attraction works with absolute precision when you provide a clear and detailed picture of the outcome you want to manifest.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

76

2. When you visualise and invoke the five senses, living in the moment, you intensify your emotions and expedite the entire manifestation process.

8.4  Be Open To Guidance

To speed up the process of manifestation, you need to have an open mind and be aware of the connectedness of the universe. The universe knows what you want, but it will only give you what you are ready for. Your strong desire will create in your life a stream of synchronous events, both positive and negative, to manifest your outcome. Simply make yourself aware of possibilities that come your way.

Synchronicity happens whether you are consciously aware of it or not.

Synchronicity is often described as being the opposite of coincidence, coincidences being random and meaningless, and synchronicity being divinely orchestrated because they seem to arrive at exactly the time we need them.

For example, Alexander Fleming’s discovery of penicillin happened when he “failed ” to disinfect cultures of bacteria from his trips and found them contaminated with penicillium molds, which killed the bacteria.

Nothing about your life happens by chance. Things happen for a reason.

The Fast Track to Creating What You Want

77

There are always a multitude of synchronous events happening around you, and many of these events can be life changing. It is only when you open your mind to the possibility of synchronicity and the fact that these events do occur all the time around you, will you recognise them as being ‘divinely orchestrated’. The Universe is constantly orchestrating your life’s journey and creating meaningful coincidences for you. If you are open to the possibility of synchronicity you will recognise synchronous events when they occur.

Synchronicity is a sign that the Law of Attraction is at work. Synchronous events tend to occur more frequently when you are deeply caught up or focused on something. When you have a burning desire, you subconsciously send a message to the Universe requesting a specific outcome. So the Universe goes to work, lining up the people, resources and situations needed to manifest that outcome. Ideas, feelings, chance meetings, valuable encounters, and timely opportunities, all seemingly coincidental, will present themselves to you. Pay attention to these coincidental events and establish if there is a meaningful connectivity between them and your desired outcome. The connectivity is a sign that the Universe is processing your request.

KEY POINTThe more open and aware you are, the more you will experience synchronous events in your life. To increase your chances of synchronicity, go out into the world and experience life.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

78

8.5 Act on Your Intuitive Knowing

Successful people don’t start out successful. They start with a dream and a burning desire to make that dream come true. Then they plan their work and steadily work their plan. You cannot bring what you want into fruition without taking effective action. Without action, your vision will remain an unfulfilled dream. Success is a process of deciding what you want and then taking step-by-step action to get it.

Remember, you are a magnet that attracts. Most often you won’t attract what you want directly. But many of the opportunities presented by the Universe will be your intuitive voice prompting you to do something or go somewhere. It may come to you through an emotion, a gut feeling, an inner voice or a nudge to take a certain course of action in your life. Whatever it is, trust your intuitive knowing and act on it, and you’ll find synchronicities occurring more often.

Intuition transcends the intellect. It is about following your heart instead of your head. We all have intuition. It is an unexplained ability to just know something.

You can develop your intuitive ability. Developing your intuition is like learning any new skill. The more you practise, the better you become at it. Courage is essential to developing your intuition. It requires listening to your inner guide and taking action based on the guidance that’s received. Intuitive knowing works best in the moment.

PART 3

The Unbreakable Law of Action

Part 3.1

The Law of Being

83

Chapter 9Just BE a Better You!

Every man is where he is by the Law of his Being.

~ James Allen

The Law of Being is fundamental to the Law of Action. Remember the profound words of James Allen, ‘People do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.’ The Law of Action is as much about being as it is about doing.

Wolfgang von Goethe said,

Before you can DO something, you must first BE something.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

84

According to the Law of Being, at any moment in time there is a direct relationship between your outer circumstances and your inner state of being, which is really your vibrational state. This is why it is necessary to change your vibrational frequency, the energy you are emanating, in order to change your outer circumstances.

Your life gets better when you change for the better. There is virtually no limit to how much better you can become and the extent to which you can develop your character.

Change who you are and you will change your circumstances in life. When your inner state of being is in harmony with what you desire you can have whatever you’re willing to become.

KEY POINTThe development of a comprehensive set of character virtues is the basis of all success in life.

Bestselling author John Kalench took a very interesting approach to the question: what is most important in our life — to BE, to DO or to HAVE?

You must be absolutely clear on what type of person you want to BE. When you decide this, you can easily choose what you DO to express the person you want to BE. In the process of doing things that are in alignment with who you want to BE, you can’t help but

Just BE a Better You!

85

unleash passion in what you DO. The result is that you end up loving passionately what you DO, which makes you so much more productive. And in the process of being more productive, you get everything in life you want to HAVE. Therefore, life is not about HAVING to DO to BE — instead, life is about BEING and DOING to HAVE!

~ John Kalench

Now let’s explore some of the more familiar character virtues you need to BE to create the outcome you desire.

9.1 Be Prepared

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

~ Seneca

Overnight success is a myth. Prepare yourself for opportunity through research, planning, learning, applying yourself, taking corrective action, and so on.

In playing this game of life, many people play not to lose, instead of playing to win. Playing not to lose is defensive and fearful, and it is a miserable way to live your life. With such a strategy, ultimately you lose anyway. To win

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

86

at this game of life, it is important to have an offensive strategy and proactively shape events in your life.

We live in the information age, a time of great transformation. Today, the sources of supreme value are knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in a timely and effective manner. Success comes to those who have the best information and wield it most effectively. In the information age, knowledge is the raw material of production and value creation. The information revolution is a revolution in power. More and more of it is vested in people with knowledge. Therefore, learning is your key to the future.

Today, continuous learning is a minimum requirement for success and advancement in any field. The concept of continuous improvement may be a cliché, but it is clear that the person who can assemble and integrate the greatest amount of knowledge about all aspects of their vocation will rise to the top and surpass all others. The key is to benchmark yourself against others, not yourself.

Winston Churchill said:

To every man there comes in his lifetime, that special moment, when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered a chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talents; what a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for that which would be his finest hour.

Successful people are committed to lifelong learning.

Just BE a Better You!

87

9.2 Be Optimistic

Your attitude is the constant interplay of thought, action, and emotion. It determines whether you lean toward being optimistic or pessimistic.

Our attitude towards life determines life’s attitude towards us. Life will treat you the way you ask it to. A casual attitude towards life will cause you to care less, or be careless.

Recognise that whatever your attitude, be it positive or negative, that’s the response you’ll receive in return from those around you. Determine your own attitude. Choose to see the good in every situation, even the unfavourable ones because every hardship provides a valuable learning experience. High achievers understand this and therefore remain optimistic, always believing that the best is yet to come. Wherever you find people doing a great job and getting outstanding results, you will find people with a positive attitude.

Enthusiasm is like a ripple in the water — it spreads. It is said that attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?

Surveys, studies and research consistently reaffirm that 85% of success in life depends on attitude, 15% on aptitude. Changing attitudes is something we will always have to do to improve our circumstances in life. Inventor Thomas Edison always had an upbeat attitude.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

88

Great Value in Disaster

Thomas Edison’s laboratory was virtually destroyed by fire in December, 1914.

Much of his life’s work went up in spectacular flames. Edison’s 24-year old son, Charles, frantically searched for his father and finally found him, calmly watching the scene, his face glowing in the reflection, his white hair blowing in the wind. The next morning, Edison looked at the ruins and said, ‘There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.’

Three weeks after the fire, Edison managed to deliver his first phonograph.

KEY POINTIf you wish to change the experiences of your outer world, change must begin within.

9.3  Be Patient…And Reap Greater Rewards

Learn the art of patience. We are conditioned to obtain immediate gratification, yet most success is the result of

Just BE a Better You!

89

delayed gratification. Farmers know that carrots sown on one day will be harvested seven weeks later.

For its first four years, the Chinese bamboo plant doesn’t show any visible evidence of growth. Then, in a six-week period, the plant grows to a staggering 30 metres! Our results in life often resemble that of the Chinese bamboo plant. There is a critical time period between starting something and enjoying the returns that come from that endeavour. During this period, many people become impatient because, despite their efforts, they cannot see progress. They are experiencing the Law of Sowing and Reaping in operation.

There is a natural progression of events from seeding to harvest and this is how it works:

1. We will reap if we sow.2. We reap what we sow.3. We reap after we sow.4. We reap more than we sow.5. We must nurture what we have sown.6. The most significant harvest usually requires the

longest time to reach its reaping season.7. We must be patient.

Enlightened Thought:

Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits.

~ Thomas A. Edison

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

90

The key to success is a long-time perspective combined with a gratification delay. Cultivate the ability to set a long-term goal and then to discipline yourself, every single day, to do those things that will guarantee you achieve that goal.

9.4 Be Creative

One of the biggest roadblocks to success is the tendency to think competitively rather than creatively. Creativity is your key to the future. All progress comes about as the result of finding more effective ways to do things. Sometimes we are reluctant to implement an idea because it seems too far-fetched.

Albert Einstein said,

‘If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.’

Competing with others by mimicking them is a weak strategy. A creative strategy creates more for everyone. You don’t have to take anything away from anyone else in order to succeed. You don’t have to cheat or take undue advantage to win. No wrong ever turns out right and the law of Cause and Effect will ultimately ensure that any unfair gain is diminished.

Differentiate yourself by adding value. Prosperity comes from creating value for others. You are here to work in

Just BE a Better You!

91

partnership with the Universe. You are a co-creator, not a competitor.

Growing Good Corn

There was a Nebraska farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon.

One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbours.

‘How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbours when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?’ the reporter asked.

‘Why sir,’ said the farmer, ‘didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn.’

Successful people are dedicated to creating value for others. Sustainable success is not survival of the fittest; it is about survival of the most cooperative.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

92

9.5  Be Tolerant and Understanding — It Cuts Both Ways

We all have judgmental feelings about everyone and everything we encounter. It is human nature to have bias. We form opinions about others and sometimes even label them after our first impressions. Our judgments are rarely neutral; they arise from our evolving values, learned from our unique life experiences.

“Evaluating” is one thing, but being judgmental is another thing entirely. There are instances when it is appropriate to judge a person, for example, when assessing a prospective employee’s qualifications and experience for a job. Being judgmental is having a critical or even harsh attitude towards another.

We judge others based on our perceptions and our conditioning, including our prejudices, ego, fear, jealousy or ignorance, instead of using knowledge and discernment. We all have our own unique personalities, habits and values, all of which are shaped by our different cultures, societies and countries from which we hail.

The truth of the matter is that the manner in which you treat others is really a reflection of yourself.

KEY POINTThe energy you give out always comes back to you.

When you are not judging another, you are able to accept and appreciate their differences. Ken Wilber points

Just BE a Better You!

93

out that, ‘If you want to know what a person is really like, listen to what they say about other people.’ This is because those things which most disturb us in other people are usually unrecognised aspects of ourselves.

Enlightened Thought:

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.

~ Wayne Dyer

Being judgmental of others is a powerful human weakness. In judging another person we give form to negative energy that comes right back at us. To evolve and grow we need to move beyond our habitual ‘black-or-white’ thinking (with no shades of gray), because this type of thinking limits us and takes us away from the success we desire. Extend yourself, and evoke your higher nature allowing yourself to move seamlessly with the flow of our natural world.

9.6 Be a Go-Giver — It’s a Paradox!

The giver’s harvest is always abundant. The process of manifesting success requires that you give and serve others. It’s a Universal Law. You plant the seeds before you reap the harvest, and the more you sow, the more

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

94

you reap. In fact, the law works to give you back more than you have sown.

KEY POINTYou have to give before you get.

The great secret of giving is to give what you want to receive or give that which you want most. If you radiate love, respect, compassion and understanding, it comes back to you.

In giving to others, you will find yourself blessed. The easiest way to get what you want in life is to help others get what they want. Renowned motivational speaker Zig Ziglar put it best when he said, ‘You can have anything you want in life if you will just help enough other people get what they want.’

It is unfortunate that our tendency is to wait to get before we give. This tactic is like sitting in front of the fireplace and saying, ‘Give me some heat, and if you give me heat, I will give you some firewood.’

The Law of Abundance allows you to attract as much abundance as you want by enriching others in various ways.

KEY POINTThe more lives you enrich, the greater your abundance.

We all have something to give. It might be an act of courtesy, a compliment, or a simple smile. Even the

Just BE a Better You!

95

most unfavoured of human beings can be touched by kindness and generosity when selflessly offered. Something of the divine exists in all of us. The Lord Buddha said, ‘If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.’

Practise the gift of giving. Give anonymously — keep your giving to yourself; otherwise you cancel out its effect in the Universe. Give with grace and a feeling of gratitude. Understand that how you feel as you give is the subtle key to abundance. Give selflessly, and you will never go without. Selflessness begets reciprocity. Energy returns to its source, multiplied!

There is a vacuum theory of prosperity, which says that when you create a vacuum of any kind, nature rushes to fill it. Learn from nature. Clean out your personal spaces of old or never used items. They create clutter and negative energy. Let them go. The Universe hates a vacuum and the very act of clearing out unused items will create a vacuum for the new, fresh things that you have requested to rush into your life.

A powerful way to apply the Law of Giving is to tithe. Tithing has been used by humankind for generations and is still encouraged by both the church and the business community. It is the practice of voluntarily giving one tenth of your income to charity or a worthy organisation.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

96

9.7  Be Responsible …and ‘Do Something’

You are responsible for the outcomes in your life. If you don’t take control of your own life, somebody else will. Take control, take responsibility.

Do Something

A man distraught by all the pain and suffering he saw all around him broke down and banged his fists into the dirt.

His turned his head upward and yelled at his God.

‘Look at this mess. Look at all this pain and suffering. Look at all this killing and hate. God, Oh God! WHY DON’T YOU DO SOMETHING?’

And his God spoke to him and said, ‘I did. I sent you.’

~ Anonymous

The starting point is to accept complete responsibility for your current circumstances. Failure to accept responsibility for your life means giving away your

Just BE a Better You!

97

personal power — you give away control over your life. While you can give away control over your life, you cannot give away personal responsibility. You are always responsible, whether you agree or not.

KEY POINTYou feel good about yourself according to the control you have over your own life.

Successful people take responsibility for all aspects of their lives. They create positive circumstances and they recognise that unfavourable situations arise when they let things happen instead of making things happen.

One of the most important personal decisions you can make on your road to success is to accept complete responsibility for the results in your life. This acknowledgement has been the defining moment for many successful people throughout history. Responsibility is a prerequisite for success.

9.8  Be Forgiving …and Experience the Freedom

It may not seem like it, but forgiveness is a powerful way to create more abundance in your life. It is important to be forgiving of yourself and others. Forgiveness is an acknowledgment of a past error, whether the error was yours or somebody else’s. We are all constantly learning and growing. Therefore, we all need forgiveness.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

98

Enlightened Thought:

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Need to Forgive

To heal yourself and let new, brighter emotion in, it is important to forgive. Forgiveness is not an option, but a necessity for healing. Forgiveness is something that happens inside you. It’s personal. You could forgive someone and yet never even tell them.

Enlightened Thought:

By far the strongest poison to the human spirit is the inability to forgive oneself or another person…

Forgiving does not mean saying that what happened to you doesn’t matter, or that it is alright for someone to have violated you. It simply means releasing the negative feelings you have about that

event and the person or persons involved.

~ Caroline Myss, Author

In the act of forgiving, you allow yourself to work through feelings of pain, grief and anger, and rid yourself of the

Just BE a Better You!

99

hurt you experienced from others and, indeed, from your own mistakes. When you choose to forgive, you choose to live in the present instead of the past. You create more of what you want, now and in the future.

How to Forgive

Forgiveness doesn’t mean condoning negative or inappropriate behaviour, nor does it mean that you have to reconcile with someone who treated you badly. It means you acknowledge that the person has hurt you, and you are choosing to grant them mercy.

You can forgive the person without excusing the act.

Enlightened Thought:

There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness.

~ Josh Billings

Alexander Pope said, ‘To err is human; to forgive, Divine.’ Remember, you are divine!

9.9  Be Faithful …and Swing Things in Your Favour

Faith is believing in something you can’t see, something unproven, yet you know it’s real or true. Faith is your

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

100

willingness to implicitly trust in and rely on Universal Consciousness or God.

We know that we have a relationship or connection with Universal Consciousness. What we don’t perhaps realise is that when we acknowledge this relationship, we induce God to join our team, even if the team consists of just one person (you) and God.

Your team has absolute power to swing things in your favour! However, to form the team you need to be faithful, that is, full of faith.

Faith is also an important factor in prayer; faith is the power behind prayer; faith is what delivers answers to prayers. Faith heals. Faith creates. Faith saves. Faith proclaims. Faith preserves. Faith dares. Faith inspires. Faith does it all, even the seemingly impossible.

Your specific need and circumstances do not move God as much as faith. You will receive from God according to your faith. The following parable illustrates the point.

The Mountain Climber

The mountain climber was determined to reach the summit of a high mountain. After much preparation, he began his adventure. Desiring the glory for such an achievement, he went alone, not telling anyone of his plans.

Just BE a Better You!

101

He began his final ascent as daylight faded in the western sky. As nightfall approached, he fought the feeling of being overcome by the encroaching darkness.

Only a few yards from the summit, he slipped, falling off a rocky ledge at a frightful speed. During those anguished moments, his life passed before him. Thinking death was imminent, he felt his safety rope begin to tighten around his waist.

Suddenly he found himself suspended in midair. In those first desperate moments a spontaneous prayer sprang from his lips, ‘God, please help me!’ Then unexpectedly a deep voice from heaven responded, ‘What would you have me do?’ The mountain climber replied that he wanted to be saved. God answered with another question, ‘Do you really think I can save you?’

‘Of course, my Lord!’ the man replied. Then God told him if he wanted to free himself all he had to do was to cut the rope. After long moments of silence, the man responded by tightening the rope around his waist.

The following morning a local mountain rescue team arrived only to find the man

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

102

dead. He had frozen to death, his hands wrapped firmly around a rope tied to his waist, hanging just two feet above the ground.

A life of faith is essentially a life of risk. Demonstrating faith in life is not for the faint-hearted, not for those timid souls who want to play small or play it safe all the time. You demonstrate faith through actively doing your part to manifest the outcome that you desire. Start acting like a success before you become one. Act the part and the Universe will match you.

9.10  Be Grateful …Because Whatever You Appreciate, Appreciates!

Faith and gratitude are closely linked. According to Wallace D. Wattles a grateful mind has faith, and that faith causes the creation on whatever one wants.

Be grateful. Count your blessings. You have much for which to be grateful. It is important for your wellbeing and happiness to be thankful for what you have.

Practise gratitude every day, preferably at the same time each day so that you can form a habit. A common method is to keep a gratitude journal where, every day you list five to ten things for which you are grateful.

Just BE a Better You!

103

Another method is to sit silently and contemplate each day. You can start and end each day with a feeling of gratitude. Awaken each morning with an attitude of gratitude. That spirit of gratitude and appreciation sets a tone for the rest of the day and helps you to recognise many of the challenges that arise as opportunities rather than problems. Then, before bedtime, give thanks for the day you experienced.

KEY POINTThe act of being thankful is one of the most effective ways to connect to Universal Consciousness and attract the abundance you deserve.

Gratitude is a power.

The most powerful key to creation is thankfulness in advance. Here’s an excerpt from the book, Conversations with God, which emphasises the need to say ‘Thank You’ in advance:

This place of knowing is a place of intense and incredible gratitude. It is thankfulness in advance. And that, perhaps, is the biggest key to creation: to be grateful before, and for, the creation. Such taking for granted is not only condoned, but encouraged. It is the sure sign of mastery. All Masters know in advance that the deed has been done.

UN Ambassador for world peace James Twyman put it succinctly when he said:

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

104

When we ask for something to happen, the attention is on the fact that we don’t have it now. But when we feel that it is already occurred, then we put out an energy that actually draws that reality to us. Gratitude is a key element. It is very important to be grateful.

Throughout history, the sages were always grateful in advance for the things they chose to create. According to the Law of Attraction you will attract those things that match your vibrational state of being — to have something you must be in the mental and emotional state of having it.

When you consciously acknowledge your blessings and express gratitude for them, you emit a positive emotional energy. The emotion of joy attracts conditions of joy. What you appreciate, appreciates (i.e. grows in value) in your life. Whatever you are grateful for, multiplies.

Studies show that not only can gratitude be deliberately cultivated, but can increase levels of wellbeing and happiness in those who cultivate it. Grateful thinking — and especially expression of it to others — is associated with increased levels of energy, optimism and empathy. Remember the good that others have done to you and express your gratitude to them. Send a card or make a phone call. Actively look for ways to show your gratitude and you will find more and more for which to be grateful. Gratitude also adds to the bottom line in very real ways.

A newspaper stand in New York, only 14 metres away from another stand, rang up four times as many sales as its competitor. How? After every sale the owner said, ‘Thank you.’ Customers would go out of their way just to be recognised and thanked.

Positive outcomes will manifest if you DO your part in the process, even if it as simple as being receptive to an idea generated by someone else.

Ultimately, you need to BE in harmony with your desires, and that requires you to DO many things to develop your level of consciousness. There are countless things you can do to change your vibrational state to become the person synchronised with your desires.

10. 1 Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

To transform your dream into reality, know where you are going and how you are going to get there. Here are some of the key processes that will help navigate the journey.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

108

Plan and Execute

Take Corrective Action

Never Ease Off

Apply Leverage

10.1.1 Plan and Execute

Some of us create the future; some of us just let it happen.

Others turn around and wonder, ’What happened?’

~ Bears Kaufman

Merely setting a goal is often not enough. It must be followed by the development of a plan (with deadlines), and then by taking consistent and effective action on a large scale towards its completion.

Do Your Part

109

An action plan is a road map that will get you from point A (your current situation) to point B (your desired situation).

To make a simple action plan:

● Know the outcome you want. ● List all the activities you need to do to achieve that outcome.

● Put the activities on your list in the sequence in which they should occur, noting that some things can occur concurrently with other things.

● Determine the start date and duration of each activity.

● Decide what additional resources you will need. ● Decide who will help with the various activities. ● Get your team (of helpers) together. ● Get started.

It is really as simple as that!

Enlightened Thought:

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks,

and then starting on the first one.

~ Mark Twain

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

110

Taking time to plan can dramatically increase productivity.

An action plan will help clarify your vision so you see the connection between the bigger picture and the next step. It is important to know what the bigger picture is like, while at the same time, focus on the moment and take the next step forward. Professional tennis players keep their eye on the championship prize (the big picture) knowing that every shot and every point counts, even if it’s early on in the game. In a similar manner, it is vital that you make every action count, and then continue to build on it.

Importantly, don’t let what you can’t do at the present time interfere with what you can do.

Undoubtedly, there will be challenges, some big enough to scare you into giving up on your goals. Action conquers fear. As you take action, you’ll get better, and your confidence and self-esteem will lift accordingly, and you will move towards your goals by leaps and bounds.

Apply the 80/20 Rule (which is also known as the Pareto Principle). According to the 80/20 Rule, 80% of results flow from just 20% of the resources (including time and people) that we use. A retail business might find that 20% of its customers account for 80% of its profits while the remaining 80% of customers account for just 20% of the profits. It would be prudent for the business manager to concentrate most of the company’s resources on the 20%

Do Your Part

111

of customers that produce 80% of the profits and not the 80% that produce 20% of the profits.

Similarly, to apply the 80/20 Rule to your particular plan, you must constantly ask yourself: what is the 20% of activities that is leading to the 80% of the results? Once you know the answer, focus most of your efforts on that 20% and then optimise the 80% of activities that produce just 20% of the results. This might mean delegating, outsourcing or even eliminating some of those activities so that more time may be spent on the activities that really matter.

10.1.2 Take Corrective Action

Check what is working and what is not. If your strategy isn’t working, adjust your plans in large or small ways as circumstances dictate. Feedback makes champions out of people — it lets you know what you should, and shouldn’t, be doing.

Enlightened Thought:

Feedback is the breakfast of champions.

~ Ken Blanchard

Life is a series of approximations and course adjustments. As we progress towards our goals we are going to experience some setbacks that take us off course. NASA

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

112

discovered on the moon mission that the spacecraft was only on course 3% of the time, which meant it was making course corrections 97% of the time.

To make progress, we must face life’s challenges and overcome them. Trying to short circuit the learning process can have harmful consequences, as the following parable illustrates.

The Parable of the Butterfly

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly and he watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.

So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The wings had not grown enough, and the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

Do Your Part

113

The man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand that before a butterfly can emerge out of its cocoon, it has to go through a struggle where acids are removed from the wings. In prematurely breaking open the cocoon, the butterfly could die from those acids. There are times when we too need to ‘struggle’ to break through the ‘cocoons’ of our lives to prepare for better times ahead or to simply strengthen ourselves to proceed on our evolutionary journey.

The Universe will constantly present you with learning experiences (or challenges) to grow and develop the capability needed to achieve your goals. Be open to feedback and learn from every experience.

10.1.3 Never Ease Off

Consistency is critical to success. When you ease off or slow down, you lose your momentum. To achieve anything worthwhile in life, it is essential that you work diligently, not just once in a while, but consistently.

Enlightened Thought:

Some things you have to do every day.Eating seven apples on Saturday night instead of

one a dayjust isn’t going to get the job done.

~ Jim Rohn

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

114

Easing off, or doing things by ‘fits and starts,’ causes a loss in momentum. Like riding a bicycle, it is necessary to be moving to maintain your balance. You can’t maintain your balance sitting still.

Here is a great analogy that illustrates how the natural Law of Momentum works.

The Airplane Analogy

Imagine that you’re sitting in the cockpit of a small airplane with the engines started and the nose pointed down the runway. You pull the throttle full and the plane whizzes down the runway, gains momentum and takes flight. You have to be on full throttle and the plane will continue to ascend. Once the plane gets to a certain height, you pull the throttle back a little because you don’t need the same amount of energy to maintain momentum.

Now, imagine while the plane was whizzing down the runway, you decide to slow it down a bit and you pull back the throttle. What do you think would happen?

Clearly, the plane would not pick up sufficient speed to take-off and you would stay on the runway, literally, until you reached the end.

Do Your Part

115

The laws of the Universe are precise. When you start a new project or a new venture, maintain the momentum until things are humming along routinely and only then can you ease off somewhat.

10.1.4 Apply Leverage

You grow in prosperity according to your associations. You are like a chameleon — you take on the characteristics of your environment and you tend to blend in.

Enlightened Thought:

It’s better to hang out with people better than you.Pick out associates whose behavior is better than

yours and you’ll drift in that direction.

~ Warren Buffet

Psychologists tell us that as much as 90% of a person’s success is determined by their reference group, that is, the people with whom they associate on a regular basis. Associate with people who are most conducive to encouraging and supporting you on your journey.

Associate with positive people, progressive people, people with integrity and high moral character, people with goals and plans, people who are going somewhere with their lives and who have high aspirations. As Zig

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

116

Ziglar said, ‘You can’t scratch with the turkeys if you want to fly with the eagles.’

Successful people use leverage extensively. They leverage other people’s time, effort, money, knowledge, skills, contacts, credibility, systems, tools and other resources. Often they pay for the opportunity to leverage because the benefits of leveraging far outweigh the cost. You might pay someone $25 an hour to mow your lawn so that you can spend that same hour more profitably to earn $100 in your area of expertise. Often, the only way to achieve a desired outcome is to leverage because you simply don’t possess all the skills or resources to do everything by yourself. This manner of leveraging is often referred to as outsourcing.

Always seek win-win outcomes with the people who help you with the achievement of your goals. Always maintain a sense of team and common purpose. We are all interdependent. No one makes it alone.

Lessons from Geese

When you see geese heading south for the winter, they fly in a V formation. Science has discovered why they fly that way. The following exposition is by Dr Robert McNish (a former science teacher).

● Research has revealed that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an up lift for the bird immediately behind it. By flying in a V formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each

Do Your Part

117

bird flew on its own. (People who share a common direction and sense of community get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on one another’s thrust.)

● Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone. It quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. (If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation and with those who are headed the same way we are.)

● When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the V and another goose flies the point. (It pays to take turns doing the hard jobs. As with geese, people are interdependent of each other’s skills, capabilities, talents or resources.)

● The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. (Likewise, we need to make sure our honking is encouraging, not discouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, production is much greater.)

● Finally, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunfire and falls out, two other geese fall out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. (If we have the sense of a goose, we will stand by each other in times of need.)

(Widemark, 2009)

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

118

Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.

Leverage is a simple concept, and certainly one of the most powerful practices for success in life. Regardless of what you do for a living, you can always do better by applying the power of leverage.

10.2  Change Your Self-talk…the Universe is Listening!

You are your most important critic. Every minute you are awake, you engage in 800 – 1200 words of automatic self-dialogue. In these silent conversations, you solve problems or create them, make decisions or avoid them, judge, praise, disparage or motivate yourself. You can dwell on past mistakes or plan a better future.

Psychologists tell us that if you could write down all your self-talk in a given day, you would find that most of it is negative or defeating in some way.

What you say to yourself directly affects how you live your life. Your subconscious mind is literal. It doesn’t care if what you say to yourself is true or false. It just acts on what you say. If you say, ‘It’s too hard; I am a failure; I am taking three steps forward and two steps backward’, your subconscious mind says, ‘Well, it must be true’, and it gives off the mental energies to attract that outcome in your life. If we allow negative self-talk to continue, our subconscious mind will work to ensure that the negative thoughts become our reality. Be careful not to put yourself down.

Do Your Part

119

One of the quickest and most effective ways to improve your life is by replacing negative self-talk with positive self-talk. Get into the habit of expressing positive thoughts about yourself. Change your perspective by gaining new knowledge. Read educational and motivational material, attend seminars and talk to positive people. Positive actions will invoke positive emotions and positive self-talk and therefore positive outcomes in your life.

10.3  Maintain Your Focus Without Wavering

You write the scripts of your life by your thoughts. You are the sum total of your thoughts because all thought is creative. To create what you want, constantly keep your outcome in mind. Let your desired outcome dominate your thinking.

The Law of Focus demands that you be single minded in the pursuit of your outcomes. Focus all your attention on what you do want, and get fired up (emotional) about it.

Enlightened Thought:

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand.

The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.

~ Alexander Graham Bell

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

120

Just as the focused sun’s rays can concentrate into intense heat and fire, your attention, when focused and concentrated on a few key activities, can enable you to perform at an extraordinary level to accomplish more in less time. However, if you scatter your energy like the sun, you will warm everything and have little impact on anything.

The laser beam is also an excellent example of the concept of focused energy. A laser beam is simply highly concentrated light, yet it has the power to cut through steel. Dispersed light cannot do that. When you concentrate your energy by focusing it on the task at hand, you create a laser beam of power and achieve specific results. When you work, work. When you play, concentrate on play. Give each its own focused attention.

More than 100 years ago, a great spiritual leader, one who was totally non-materialistic, summed up the power of focus with these words:

Take up one idea.Make that idea your life;think of it; dream of it; live on that idea;let the brain, the muscles, the nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea. This is the way to success.

~ Swami Vivekananda

The wonderful thing is that your success in life has little to do with age, gender, past experience, academic qualifications or your level of intellect. Check out contemporary and historical individuals, of varied

backgrounds from all walks of life, who have defied the odds and become highly successful. Scottish satirical writer, essayist, historian and teacher, Thomas Carlyle said:

The weakest living creature, by concentrating his powers on a single object, can accomplish something; whereas the strongest, by dispersing his over many, may fail to accomplish anything.

To remain focused over the long haul one must have rock-solid commitment. Commitment is another key ingredient in every recipe for success. Commitment ignites action.

Wolfgang von Goethe wrote:

Until one is committed there is always hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. The moment one definitively commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

10.4  Don’t Broadcast Your Goals and Successes

Be selective when sharing information about your goals and successes with others. Don’t publicise them unnecessarily. It might be difficult to understand, but most people would prefer to see you fail rather than succeed. Be careful of the dream stealers.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

122

Supporters will get excited with you, and motivate you to confront and overcome any obstacle that presents itself on your journey. They will share in your trials and triumphs.

KEY POINTSurround yourself with people and environments that support you.

Allow your accomplishments to speak for themselves and, when required, share your accomplishments in a modest, positive way. When you practise humility, you gain the respect of others.

When you taste success, don’t forget your supporters. Acknowledge the many who have helped you in small or big ways. Take time to thank them. Pass on your knowledge and your strategies, and you will enjoy not only your success, but the success of those you mentor.

10.5 Ready, Fire, Aim

Success likes speed.

Everyone has intentions, but intentions don’t make things happen. It is the execution that separates those who make a difference in the world and those who simply exist by default. The strategy should be ‘Ready, Fire, Aim’, and not ‘Ready, Aim, Fire’. Take a shot; if you miss, try again! To speed up the rate of success, speed up your rate of failure.

Do Your Part

123

Failure is the stepping stone to success because unless you fail, you never learn those critical lessons you can only learn through first-hand experience in the trenches. The willingness to fail is one of the most important requirements for outstanding success in life. Everybody fails on their way to success. You will be hard pressed to find a highly successful person who hasn’t actually had more failures than they’ve had successes. That’s just the way it is.

The most successful people minimise the time between learning something new and putting it into practice. In the education industry, The Matthew Effect refers to the notion that children who learn to read earlier, read more, and by reading more they become better readers sooner, and therefore the gap between them and their peers widens over the years. The same is true in most other areas of life — it’s not the big that eat the small; it’s the quick that eat the slow.

Joseph Cyril Bamford, Founder of JCB Manufacturing said:

No matter how intelligent or able you may be, if you don’t have this sense of urgency, now is the time to start developing it. The world is full of competent people who honestly intend to do things tomorrow, or as soon as they can get around to it. Their accomplishments, however, seldom match those of the less talented who are blessed with a sense of the importance of getting things started now.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

124

Napoleon Hill, author of the classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich, said:

Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

Successful people don’t wait for ideal circumstances; they act regardless of what is happening around them.

10.6  Make Sacrifices and Practise Self Discipline

There is no such thing as something for nothing. We have to give to get. To achieve anything worthwhile in life, we have to pay an opportunity cost, the cost of giving up the next best choice such as spending time hanging out with friends, or splurging on a new car. Some sacrifice must be made.

In the short term be willing to give up a portion of those things which you want most, such as time or money, so that you can have more of them in the future.

Success demands discipline. Discipline is closely related to sacrifice; sacrifice and discipline are interdependent. No one is born with inherent discipline. Discipline is a trait that can be consciously developed through training.

But they, while their companions slept,Were toiling upward in the night.

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

In 1940, Albert E. N. Gray (an official in the insurance industry) gave a famous speech articulating what he called the common denominator of success: the one element common to all those who have ever succeeded at anything. The one common denominator is that successful people formed the habit of doing things that failures don’t like to do.

He went on to say that ‘the things that failures don’t like to do are the very things that you and I and other human beings, including highly successful people, naturally don’t like to do. In other words, we’ve got to realise right from the start that success is something which is achieved by the minority of men and women, and is, therefore, uncommon and not to be achieved by following our natural likes and dislikes, nor by being guided by our natural preferences and prejudices.’

Gray explained that, ‘by doing the things they don’t like to do, successful people can accomplish the things they want to accomplish. Successful people are influenced by the desire for pleasing results. Failures are influenced by the

desire for pleasing methods and are, therefore, inclined to be satisfied with such results as can be obtained by doing things they like to do.’

10.7  Take Risks and Fail Forward – It’s the SAFEST Way to Go!

Act boldly and unseen forces will come to your aid.

~ Dorothea Brande

Be bold and courageous. To achieve all that is possible, have the courage to attempt the seemingly impossible. Seize opportunities when they present themselves.

Success is a numbers game. There is a direct relationship between the number of things you try and your probability of ultimately succeeding. Successful people try (and fail) far more things than average people.

~ Janet Rand

Life is a process of blossoming into all you can be. Unless you consistently push the boundary of your comfort zone and do something beyond that which you have already mastered, you will never grow.

There is much truth in the British Special Air Service motto, ‘Who dares, wins!’

10.8  Deal with the Crisis before it Deals With You

Crises vary in size and intensity. Every crisis serves a purpose, carrying with it the seed of opportunity to evolve and grow in some way. Hardship and misery come to everyone, and we can learn some of the greatest lessons from situations we wouldn’t choose for ourselves.

The story of Soichiro Honda illustrates this idea. This remarkable man repeatedly triumphed over crisis to build the icon we know as the Honda Motor Company, one of the greatest motorcycle and automobile franchises in the world today.

The Story of Soichiro Honda

After WWII, an extreme gasoline shortage in Japan forced people to walk or use bicycles. Soichiro built a tiny engine and attached it to his bicycle. People in his neighbourhood were impressed but raw materials to build the engines were in short supply and he was unable to meet the demand.

Soichiro Honda wrote to 18 000 bicycle store owners and, in an inspiring letter, asked them to help him revitalise Japan. Approximately 5000 responded. Unfortunately, the first models were too bulky to work well, so he continued to develop and adapt. Finally, the small engine named ‘The Super Cub’ became a reality and was an outstanding success.

Soichiro Honda then began exporting his Super Club motorcycles to Europe and America. In the 1970s his company started making small cars, smaller than anyone had seen before, and rode another wave of success.

Today, Honda is one of the world’s largest automobile companies. Honda succeeded because one man made a truly committed decision, acted upon it, and made adjustments on a continuous basis. Failure was not an option for Soichiro Honda.

Everyone knows how to thrive in the good times. It is the trying times that separate those of true substance from those who portray an image of substance, that is, those who really walk the talk from those who merely talk.

Enlightened Thought:

Circumstances do not make the man; they merely reveal him to himself.

~ Epictetus (Greek philosopher)

Life is a succession of events — favourable and unfavourable. What matters is how we deal with events. You choose your approach. Accept that you can’t fix everything. There are going to be situations that you can do absolutely nothing about except to seek guidance from God or Universal Consciousness.

Concern yourself only with those things you know you can change. When confronted by a challenging situation, heed the pragmatic words of Dale Carnegie.

First ask yourself: what is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst.

Your ability to make the best of a bad situation is pivotal to your success.

Enlightened Thought:

Bestselling author Brian Tracy, who has worked with thousands of leaders from all walks of life, observed that when highly successful people were confronted with a problem or crisis, they seemed to be able to turn on a switch in their minds that enabled them to become cool, calm and completely in control; they immediately took charge of their emotions and the situation; they never became angry or upset; they did not become excited or irritated. In fact, they seemed to go to the opposite extreme. They slowed down and became more polite and courteous. They said ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. They asked

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

questions and gathered information before reacting or responding. (Tracy, 2008)

Like any successful person, you too have an innate capacity for bouncing back. Embrace life’s ups and downs; be strengthened by them, and enjoy the calm that follows the storm.

10.9  Do Whatever It Takes – ‘Go the Whole Nine Yards’

When you set a goal, you enter into an unwritten contract with the Universe. A key clause in the contract is that you will do whatever it takes to achieve your desired outcome.

Personal choice is your right, but if you change your contractual obligations (e.g. by eliminating a key activity), you forfeit your right to the outcome you want to manifest. Doing whatever it takes means doing everything that needs to be done to achieve your desired outcome.

If you are not willing to do whatever it takes, then you are not 100% committed to achieving your desired outcome. However, being willing to do whatever it takes does not necessarily mean that you will have to do everything. The key factor is that you must be willing to do everything necessary to achieve your outcome.

American aviation’s flying legend, Chuck Yeager, won a permanent place in the history of aviation as the first

Do Your Part

133

pilot ever to fly faster than the speed of sound, but not without many trials that tested his patience, endurance and beliefs.

Breaking the Sound Barrier

Chuck Yeager was the first man to fly faster than Mach 1 (700 miles per hour), which is the speed of sound. There were many failed attempts and the USA air force had developed a small, bullet-shaped aircraft, the Bell X-1, to challenge the sound barrier and had been trying to find a man willing to risk the unknown of supersonic flight.

When Chuck Yeager heard of this opportunity he took up the challenge. At the time, no one knew if a fixed-wing aircraft could fly faster than sound, or if a human pilot could survive the experience. More than half of the engineers involved in building and running the X-1 believed that as soon as the sound barrier was broken, the airplane would disintegrate and no pilot would survive. Yeager believed otherwise; it was his personal belief that the heavy vibration of the plane would actually calm down after reaching Mach 1.

A few nights before the scheduled attempt, Chuck went horseback riding. As ‘luck’ would

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

134

have it, Chuck fell of his horse and broke two ribs on his right side. Yeager taped up his ribs and did his best to hide his condition.

On the day of the flight, it became apparent that Yeager’s injured right side wouldn’t allow him to shut the door of the Bell X-1. He confessed his problem to Jack Ridley, the flight engineer. Ridley sawed off a short piece of broomstick handle so Yeager would be able to get enough leverage to close the hatch.

Early on the morning of October 14, Yeager went up in the B-29 bomber that carried the X-1. At 7000 feet, he climbed into the little cockpit of the X-1 and locked himself in. The B-29 released the X-1 at 20 000 feet. His jet took off, climbing to 40 000 feet, headed for Mach 1 speed. No one had ever been that fast before.

At .87 Mach the violent vibrations began, but Yeager continued to push the aircraft faster. Just as he had predicted, at .96 Mach the aircraft steadied and he passed Mach 1. Yeager broke the sound barrier and etched his name in the history books.

Do Your Part

135

There are some valuable lessons in this story. Based on our personal experiences and understanding of the Universal Laws of Success, we would suggest that Yeager’s horse riding accident was divinely orchestrated. When you ask for a big outcome, the Universe will test your willingness to do whatever it takes. Just when you think you have got everything under control, it pulls the rug from under you; a catastrophic event occurs forcing you to reconsider your intended course of action.

But Yeager believed that if he could get into the pilot’s seat of the X-1, he could fly the plane effectively. He was willing to do his part and the Universe conspired to help him.

10.10 Never, Never, Never Give Up

There will be many challenges. Commit to yourself to keep going — not just when it is easy, but more than ever when it is tough.

Success requires giving it everything it takes and not just everything you’ve got, and also choosing to give your effort a realistic amount of time to manifest. Perhaps the most amazing principle of success is that the Universe actually conspires to help you achieve your desired outcome.

Sometimes, when things seem to be at their very worst, and you bide your time and await your chance, your opportunity will materialise suddenly and unexpectedly. Like a great ship in a storm, keep heading in your chosen direction. The storm will pass, although sometimes it may seem that it never will, and one bright morning you will find yourself passing the harbor light. You will have survived the storms and arrived at your port of call. You will experience a feeling of elation and contentment that only a survivor with heart can experience.

As Elbert Hubbard said,

‘There is no failure except no longer trying’.

It is said that, ‘Failure is the line of least persistence.’ Stay committed to your cause and be brutally optimistic. See opportunity in every difficulty because every adversity carries with it an important learning experience.

Do Your Part

Know that you are a winner — a champion. You have simply forgotten how capable you really are. You have faced and overcome some of life’s greatest challenges very early in life — challenges such as walking, talking, reading and writing, to mention a few.

Scientists tell us that learning to walk is quite a feat. It requires thousands of attempts at integrating multiple skills into a coherent whole. Coordinating the dozens of muscles required for balancing ourselves upright and then propelling ourselves forward using our legs alternatively, is a very complicated process. Yet, we did it. It took time and practise, but we mastered the skill and then surpassed it by learning to run, skip, jump, dance, and more.

You never faltered in your determination to walk. You never judged yourself for your failures. Instead you kept trying. You faced the risks and mastered the skill. Congratulations!

Clearly, you have what it takes to succeed grandly in life. You proved it, many times. Don’t stop now. Whatever your dream, pursue it relentlessly. Never give up! Success comes to those who stay with a dream long enough to reach it. Period.

PART 4

The Unbreakable Law of Receiving

Part 4.1

The Law of Having

141

Chapter 11Having What You Want

To HAVE is the consequence of being and doing. By being and doing you become an expression of what you are, that is, your consciousness. As you may already understand, you don’t attract what you want, but what you are. In essence you are a packet of vibrational energy. It is your energy that attracts and creates your results in life. To have (or attract) something is to be in vibrational resonance with that thing. When you change who you are on the inside, you change your results in life.

So, having is simply about being in vibrational resonance with your desired outcome by being the kind of person you need to be and doing whatever needs to be done to create a new level of consciousness.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

142

11.1 The Threshold Factor of Success

As explained earlier using the Success Continuum®, Prosperity is an effect that is caused by Growth plus Contribution. Prosperity is the output (having) and Growth plus Contribution is the input (being and doing). If you increase your input, your output will increase accordingly. To achieve a specific result, your level of consciousness must reach the threshold for that result. The only way to reach that threshold is through ongoing Growth plus Contribution as shown in the diagram, The Success Continuum®.

Having What You Want

143

Consider the threshold as a score that you need to attain in order to receive your desired outcome. This is similar to accumulating merit points in a rewards program offered by many business organisations.

You accumulate Goodwill Points for all the good or positive things that you do in pursuing your desired outcome. In fact, every target you set, consciously or unconsciously, be it a wish, desire, milestone, goal or dream, is a threshold point in your life.

We use the metaphor of having a Goodwill Account with the Universe. You can have a separate Goodwill Account for every goal in every area of your life — health, relationships, social, spiritual, financial, etc. However, to keep things simple, we will assume that you are single-minded in the pursuit of your dream and therefore have just one Goodwill Account operating at any time.

The balance in your Goodwill Account at a given time determines where you are on the Success Continuum®. Every thought, word and deed affects the balance in your Goodwill Account. Absolutely everything counts. Positive things — a sense of calm, a feeling of gratitude, a smile, or helping someone in need — cause you to move up the Success Continuum® curve. Negative things — selfishness, worry, placing blame, making excuses — reduce your balance. Your balance in your Goodwill Account is always in a state of flux.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

144

At any point in time, your specific position on the curve is a reflection of your level of consciousness and therefore the measure of your prosperity.

Only the Universe will decide when you have accumulated the required number of Goodwill Points to be in vibrational resonance with the specific reward you seek and therefore attract it into your life.

If you put a small amount of energy into something, the Universe will cause it to dissipate until it is in equilibrium with its environment. However, if you consistently inject large amounts of energy into a small unit of time, faster than the Universe can equalise it, you will make steady progress toward the achievement of your goal.

KEY POINTTo reach your goal, you must constantly be putting in more energy than the Universe is dissipating!

11.2 The Ultimate Success Formula

There are many paths to success and no single definitive formula. Our Ultimate Success Formula® incorporates some key factors:

®

Having What You Want

145

Element Descriptione Emotion

I Image

E Energy

T Team

S Success

Let’s explore each element.

ImageYou must see the outcome in your mind before it will manifest. If you cannot see your goal completed in all its glory in your mind, there is no way you will experience it in your outer world. Things are created mentally before they are created physically.

Enlightened Thought:

Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture… Do not

build up obstacles in your imagination.

~ Norman Vincent Peale

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

146

EnergyEnergy is resources such as time, effort, money, materials, etc. To achieve your outcome you may vary the mix of your resources — you could go it alone or you could leverage. Regardless of how or where you obtain it, you must expend energy.

TeamYour success in life will be directly related to how well you work with others. We all have different skills, abilities and personal attributes. Working with others helps you achieve your goals more quickly.

TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More

Emotion Emotion (e) refers to our ‘feelings’ about something. The more emotion you emit, the greater will be your rate of vibration and the more rapidly you will attract into your energy orbit the people, circumstances and events needed to manifest your desired outcome. The more intense your emotion, the faster you will achieve your outcome.

SuccessThe Ultimate Success Formula® states that success in any endeavour requires that you:

1. Have a clear Image of your desired outcome.2. Get emotional whenever you picture that outcome.3. Put out the necessary Energy, doing whatever it

takes to manifest that outcome.

Having What You Want

147

4. Carry out your activities with emotion. The more intense the emotion, the better.

5. Leverage your Team.

Hence, Ie + Ee + T = S

The story of Edmund Hillary aptly illustrates the application of the Ultimate Success Formula®.

Hillary took part in several failed attempts on Mt Everest before he summitted in 1953. In 1952, he addressed a group in England and walked on stage to a thunderous applause. The audience was recognising an attempt at greatness, but Edmund Hillary saw himself as undeserving. He had not completed what he had set out to do.

At some point during his speech, Hillary moved away from the microphone and walked to the edge of the platform. He made a fist and pointed it at a picture of Mount Everest, which hung on the wall. He said, ‘Mount Everest, you beat me the first time, but I’ll beat you the next time because you’ve grown all you are going to grow and I’m still growing.’

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

148

Edmund Hillary was resolute. A year later, he became the first person to conquer Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

Whatever it is you want, like Edmund Hillary, if you can see it in your mind, you can literally hold it in your hands, by correctly applying the Ultimate Success Formula®. Edmund Hillary first had an Image of himself standing on the top of the mountain. Despite seemingly insurmountable challenges, he expended significant Energy in his relentless persistence. The expedition, involving over 400 people including 362 porters and 20 local guides, was a Team effort. Hillary had vision and a burning desire — an intense emotion to achieve his outcome. This Emotion was linked to his Image (Ie) of himself on the top of the mountain and to every bit of Energy (Ee) he used in the pursuit of his goal with the help of his Team (T). Given his application of the formula, his Success (S) was inevitable.

Hidden Truths

1. Having is the consequence of being and doing.2. Absolutely everything counts. Every thought, word or

deed either helps you or hinders you.3. To realise a desired outcome you need to reach a

specific threshold or ‘tipping point’ in terms of your level of consciousness.

4. If you go too slow or stop working towards your goal, you will retrogress to starting point.

Having What You Want

149

5. To attain your goal you must constantly be putting in more energy than the Universe is dissipating.

6. You must see your goal completed in all its glory in your mind before you will experience it in your outer world.

Part 4.2

The Law of Change

151

Chapter 12Your Moment of Truth

The moment of truth has arrived. Will you keep on going as you always have, or will you transform yourself into a more effective person? Transformation means growing in your level of consciousness; changing your beliefs and behaviours so they are in harmony with the natural laws of the Universe. Effectively, it means becoming a different person — a better person capable of attracting a better outcome.

Everything in our world evolves and grows. Life begets more life. The seed grows into a tree that, in turn, produces more seeds, continuing the cycle of life indefinitely. You are an integral part of the Universe and your job is to elevate life and create expansion in this world, perpetuating creation. An essential part of your purpose is to become all that you can be (grow) and to use your God given talents to make this world a better place (contribute).

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

152

There is no limit to how much you can be, do and have if only you engage life with passion and express your identity at a higher level of consciousness. You get better at life by engaging life.

The best among us are not more gifted than the rest. They just take little steps each day as they

march toward their biggest life. And the days slip into weeks, the weeks into months and before they know it, they arrive at a place called extraordinary.

~ Robin Sharma

KEY POINTLearning results in behaviour change. If there is no behaviour change, then there was no learning.

Life is in session NOW. Don’t let another second be wasted. Don’t settle for less than you are capable of having. Go for your dreams with the knowledge that you have all the tools you need to achieve them. Let today be a defining moment in your life, a point in time when a transformation occurs inside of you and you are never the same again. Dare to be great and begin now. The result will be a new sense of self — your new consciousness!

About The Authors

This book is the collaborative effort of Virend and Verusha, a father and daughter team. Therefore, it combines the experiences of two generations to give you the essentials of success — pertinent information that we believe should be taught to us very early in our lives.

Virend Singh was born and raised in South Africa. He started his career in the computer industry as a trainee programmer and steadily climbed the ranks to eventually head up the computer division of a Building Society in South Africa.

In 1989, Virend migrated to Australia to start a new life with his wife and two young children. Since then he has worked for three major corporations in various information technology roles until eventually striking out on his own, first as a contract Information Technology Project Manager and then as an independent business person.

A business professional with an MBA and a graduate of the ‘school of hard knocks’, Virend finally learned that highly successful people think and act different than others. His greatest revelation was that Prosperity is the direct result of ‘Growing’ and ‘Contributing’.

The Inexplicable Laws of Success

164

Having learned first-hand what it takes to achieve notable success, his plans for the future is to work with his daughter Verusha and help people improve the quality of their personal and professional lives.

Verusha Singh is a ‘success writer’ with a bachelor’s degree in Media and Writing and a post-graduate certificate in Editing and Publishing. After graduating from university she held positions at two publishing companies, including Hay House (Australia) before deciding to establish her own self-

publishing business. While working at Hay House she wrote articles for various mainstream magazines and played the role as primary ghost-writer for a self-help book (which, for obvious reasons, cannot be named).

As an independent business person Verusha has completed various editing and marketing projects for clients before joining her dad to co-author and publish The Inexplicable Laws of Success.

Verusha’s plans for the future are to continue to write and teach about all aspects of success.
