TEMPLE BETH AM ENDOWMENT FUNDThe Temple Beth Am Endowment Fund perpetually benefits our shul and schools by funding annual payments for scholarships, youth programs, facility enhancement and much more. Consider an Endowment Gift along with your Membership; contact Jane Zuckerman at [email protected] (310) 652-7354 x205 for details regarding planned gifts and naming opportunities.

SISTERHOODThe Sisterhood of TBA offers every woman the opportunity to share common interests, develop lasting friendships, and to be part of one of the most vital organizations in the Jewish world, the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. We are guided by our mission: “To strengthen, unite and support women in their efforts to understand and perpetuate Conservative Judaism in the home, synagogue and community, and reinforce their bonds with Israel and Jews worldwide.”

Our programs and fundraising benefit TBA, Pressman Academy, The Youth Department, Camp Ramah Scholarships and the Jewish community at large.

TBA Sisterhood invites you to join us on our mission. Email or call our President Rosana Chermisqui at [email protected] or (310) 435-1160.

YOUNG WOMEN’S SOCIETYYoung Women’s Society provides an exciting social opportunity within the Temple Beth Am community where Jewish women 30-45 can connect and create life-long friendships. YWS events will provide our members with an opportunity to relax and try new activities within a supportive circle of friends. For more information please email [email protected].

MEN’S SOCIETYThe Temple Beth Am Men’s Society was founded to meet the unique communal, social, and Jewish spiritual needs of the Temple’s men. We provide fun and dynamic social, athletic and tikkun olam opportunities that help our members forge and strengthen friendships. Our central mission is to bring the Temple’s men together as part of a single kehila. Our Men’s Society provides an avenue for men to come together by combining non-shul based activities with a Jewish component. For information regarding upcoming events visit www.tbala.org/men.

YOUTH PROGRAMSThe Temple Beth Am Youth Department encourages a love of Judaism in children and teenagers through engaging programming and fosters connections among young Jews with each other and with the larger Jewish community. The Youth Department offers two age appropriate programs. For more information, contact our Youth Director Alana Levitt at (310) 652-7354 x212 or [email protected], or visit www.tbala.org/youth.

KadimaKadima (4-6th grade) meets twice a month and enjoys activities such as sushi making, holiday lounge nights, bowling, laser tag and their very own Kadima Kinnus weekend at Camp Ramah. Weekday and weekend programs are offered to fit everyone’s schedule.

USY (Jr. & Sr.)USY (7th - 12th grade) provides social, religious, educational, and social-action programming. TBA USY is affiliated with Far West Region United Synagogue Youth, joining TBA USYers in activities with other teenagers from around the Pacific Southwest. The teen-led board plans events and takes a greater leadership role within the synagogue and greater community.

BETH AM NETWORKING GROUPBANG’s core mission is to foster economic growth within the TBA community by bringing together today’s and tomorrow’s professionals, executives, & entrepreneurs within the TBA community, by focusing on three elements of networking: business development, mentorship and internship.

MERCAZ USA, the Zionist Organization of the Conservative MovementMERCAZ USA is the voice of American Conservative Jews for Israel. MERCAZ is the voice for rabbis and laypeople, men and women, young people and seniors - in short, for every Conservative Jew - who wants to be counted for Israel. Additional information is enclosed. The Rabbis, Officers and Board of Trustees of Temple Beth Am encourage you to join (or renew your membership in) MERCAZ.

When you renew your Temple Beth Am Membership, consider additional participation in the following:

Summer 2013

Dear Temple Beth Am Member,

Temple Beth Am is truly blessed to be one of the warmest, most active, enthusiastic and knowledgeable synagogue communities in Southern California. We are looking forward to another wonderful year, and are excited to welcome Rabbi Yechiel Hoffman as our first Director of Youth Learning and Engagement. Rabbi Hoffman will join our Senior Staff with a focus of bringing new vitality to our Youth Programs and Religious School.

Now is the time to renew your TBA membership for the 2013-2014 year. Please complete the membership renewal forms in this booklet and indicate your preferences for:

• High Holiday Tickets • Sisterhood • Mercaz• Book of Remembrance • United Synagogue Youth (USY) • Volunteer Sign-Up

In addition, please review the enclosed Member Questionnaire, which shows all of the information that is in our computer database for you and your family; please make any changes and be sure to include a current e-mail address where applicable.

Updated information on our Jeremiah Society is also inside, and we encourage you to consider this approach to tzedakah as a way to provide meaningful and needed support for our synagogue. In addition, we hope that you will participate in some of the many programs and committees that keep our congregation vibrant; please let us know how you would like to be involved.

We are acutely aware of the significant challenges that continue to affect many of us through the current economic climate. As a result, the Board of Trustees made a decision not to increase dues this year; our only increase is to our Security and Facility fees. Security remains of the utmost importance to all of us, and the facility fees will allow us to continue to properly maintain our building.

Temple Beth Am does its best to ensure that no one is turned away from synagogue membership because of finances. If you are in need of assistance, we encourage you to contact our Executive Director, Sheryl Goldman, to discuss your situation. The process for dues accommodation is confidential and discreet. Let us know if you need help.

The High Holidays are very early this year, just after Labor Day, so it is important that you complete and return the last two pages of the renewal booklet, along with any updates to the Member Questionnaire, by August 1st. Forms are also available online at www.tbala.org/renewal. Please call our Executive Director, Sheryl Goldman, or her assistant Ariana Shane at (310) 652-7354 x223 if you have any questions regarding dues, a payment plan, or High Holiday seating. They will be happy to assist you.

We look forward to your continued participation in our Temple Beth Am community and to sharing another year with you. May it be a year of blessing, sustenance, good health and peace.

B’shalom,

Ronald K. Alberts Rabbi Adam Kligfeld Linda Salem Sheryl GoldmanPresident V.P Membership Executive Director

Hall of Memories Plaques Please consider permanently honoring your loved ones by reserving a plaque in Temple Beth Am’s Hall of Memories. In accordance with Jewish tradition, we mark the memories of our loved ones by symbolically kindling a flame at each plaque during the week of yahrzeit and during all Yizkor Memorial Services. Family members receive a personalized letter annually letting them know when the yahrzeit occurs and all names that appear on plaques are automatically included in a general listing in the Book of Remembrance. To reserve a plaque, please complete the information below for each plaque ordered. For assistance, contact Cori Drasin, Life Cycle Coordinator at (310) 652-7354 X210 or visit: www.tbala.org/memory to reserve your plaque(s) online.

Book of RemembranceRemembering plays an important role in the Jewish life cycle. As we approach Yom Kippur, our Temple Beth Am Book of Remembrance 2013/5774 will be produced as a loving reminder of those dearly departed whose families remember them with love. It will be distributed to the entire congregation. This booklet includes special prayers and meditations to help those who are bereaved or observing yahrzeit and is used throughout the year when the Yizkor memorial prayers are recited.

Please print name(s) below exactly as you would like them to appear in the Book of Remembrance. As a guide, it is suggested that a minimum of $18 per name be contributed. Larger gifts, prompted by your own generosity, will be gratefully received and acknowledged.

May their memory be a blessing
