TC Kimi headed our way Palm Islanders are being urged to prepare for destructive winds and heavy rains as Tropical Cyclone Kimi appears to be heading this way. Local & District Disaster Management Groups have met today, CEO Adele Young said. “Everyone should be prepared for a wet night with destructive winds, regardless of where the Tropical Cyclone crosses over to land,” she said. “While forecasts and modelling suggest there are several different scenarios, Palm Island is now in the middle of the warning zone,” she said. “Planes and barges are likely to be cancelled for at least the next two days.” She said as the Category 2 cyclone approached, there was no need to panic. “All that’s needed now is a little bit of planning,” she said. “Make sure you have supplies of food and medication, stay indoors, and secure your home as much as possible. “People in camps are also urged to seek shelter with their family.” For more information you can monitor cyclone updates from BoM online at bom.gov.au or the Council’s Facebook page.
