From Bere Regis|dea 1: Bere Regis to Athelhampton House – Catch the 187 bus from West Street to the beautiful 15th Century Athelhampton House (entrance fee applies), passing through the pretty villages of Briantspuddle and Affpuddle, and by the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum. You could then continue to the county town of Dorchester and visit the many museums including The Tutankhamun Exhibition, Teddy Bear House or Dinosaur Museum (entrance fee applies).

Idea 2: Upton Country Park – Catch the 40 bus from St Peters Finger pub, South Lytchett Manor (Camping and Caravan Park) or Upton Triangle Shops to Upton Country Park bus stop. Cross the road, turn left and keeping walking straight on until you reach the entrance gates. There are many walks to explore, plus Upton House, the Walled Gardens and the Tea Rooms.

Price (adult): Bus, £5.50 return.

Idea 3: Upton/Lytchett Minster to Wareham and Wareham Forest – Catch the 40 or X54 bus from Upton Triangle Shops, South Lytchett Manor (Camping and Caravan Park) or St Peters Finger pub to the Post Office in Wareham. Straight on from the bus stop is the Discover Purbeck Information Centre with lots of ideas of things to do during your visit. Make sure you visit the Quay: a great place to sit and relax or hire a boat (March to October) to row or motor along the River Frome.

Catch the 40 or X54 bus back to Lytchett Minster or Upton.

Idea 4: Walking the Wareham Forest Way –

Catch the 40 bus from the Red Lion bus stop (in Wareham) to Poole Bus Station, and then change onto the X8 (for Blandford Forum) getting off at Sturminster Marshall War Memorial. Walk back to Wareham along the Wareham Forest Way (13 miles). Why not stop halfway at East Morden for lunch in the village pub?

Idea 5: Wareham to Bovington Tank Museum and Lawrence of Arabia Trail – Catch the train from Wareham Railway Station to Wool Station. Walk or cycle (you can take your bike on the train) the 1 ¾ miles to the Tank Museum by turning right out of the railway/bus station and right again over the level crossing. Pass the petrol station and turn left following the cyclepath (blue signs) over Wool Bridge towards Bovington. The Museum is on your right.

At the Museum (cycle parking available) you can join The Lawrence of Arabia Trail walking route (6 ¾ miles) which passes by places associated with T.E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) such as Clouds Hill (his Dorset residence and now a National Trust property) and Moreton where he is laid to rest. Why not stop for lunch or afternoon tea at Moreton?

Please note that Clouds Hill is open from mid March to late October, Monday to Sunday. Entry fee applies to non-National Trust members.

Idea 6: Wareham to Poole –

Catch the 40 bus from South Bridge bus stop (opposite the Discover Purbeck Information Centre) to Poole Bus Station for the town centre, Poole Park and connecting buses to Poole Quay (Route One bus). If you have children with you, why not stop en-route at the fantastic Farmer Palmers Farm Park in Organford (bus stop outside) which has been specially created for young children? You will get 10% off your admission price with your bus ticket. Return to Wareham by bus or catch a Greenslade Pleasure Boat from Poole Quay to Wareham Quay.

Price (adult): 40 bus between Wareham and Poole Bus Station, £5.00 one-way and £7.40 return Boat trip, £7 one-way Route One bus between Poole Quay and Poole Bus Station, 60p one-way.
