sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and sugar (energy)

Producer: organisms that make their own food from sunlight and/or chemical energy (the base of every food chain)

Consumer: organisms that consume the producersPrimary Consumer: eat the producer Secondary: eat the primary consumer

As the energy flows from organism to organism, energy is lost at each step.
