Gen Memo 29/14: GlobalMET Workshop 30 September-01 October 2014, Hatten Hotel, Melaka Dear Member, PLEASE ENSURE THIS MEMO IS WIDELY DISTRIBUTED WITHIN YOUR INSTITUTION Malaysian Workshop GlobalMET Workshop 30 September~01 October 2014, Hatten Hotel, Melaka Dear Sir/Madam, Season’s Greetings from the Organising Team of GlobalMET Conference 2014! During the April Conference in Kuala Lumpur, the workshops on Community of Shipping had drawn enthusiastic responses from various attendees. To deliberate and decide on the way forward identifying measures to fill the gaps in Maritime Education and Training, an exclusive workshop has been proposed, lest the issues shared in the Conference stagnate as outcomes of an academic exercise. Ideas emerging from the synergic efforts of various interested quarters will be synthesized and tangible action-proposals will be proposed to the IMO. The venue for the workshop gathering will be in the historic city of Melaka in Malaysia. The proposed dates are 30 September and 1 October (Tuesday & Wednesday inclusive). The Invitation for this workshop is extended to select members of the maritime community to keep the groups compact and the focus, intense. Attendees of the GlobalMET Conference 2014 and the GlobalMET Members are the principal invitees. This effort will be supported by Malaysian Maritime Academy. To accommodate the operating expenses, a nominal fee of US$ 100 (RM300) is proposed for the 2-day interaction, while the other incidental expenses (transport, accommodation etc.,) are met with by the participants. We invite you for this strategic event and look forward to your confirmation to be part of this GlobalMET Workshop 2014. As a stakeholder to the seafaring community on Maritime Education and Training, your ideas, interests and support only will shape the future Maritime industry.

AN INVITATION TO: The 2nd Annual GlobalMET

Workshop

Maritime Education & Training :

‘Closing The Gap Between

What Is Needed and What Is Provided’

HATTEN HOTEL, MELAKA, MALAYSIA

30th September ~ 1st October 2014

Background:

The recently concluded GlobalMET conference 2014 in the

bustling city of Kuala Lumpur was resounding success.

Presenters from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Papua

New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Nigeria and Malaysia

shared a total of 20 papers.

Maritime nations, government, classification societies and

maritime institutions gathered upon the invitation of the

Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) & GlobalMET to ponder

ways and means to address apparent gaps between ‘what is

needed and what is provided’ in terms of training officers for

the merchant navy.

GlobalMET with the enthusiastic support of ALAM is now

cordially inviting you to a workshop in the heart of ‘historical’

Melaka. The two day workshop seeks to intensify efforts to

detail out the gaps and solutions to close the gaps.

GlobalMET has been successful in getting itself recognized as

an NGO in the IMO. Therefore, it is only natural that it seeks

to elevate itself to a higher plane of recognition by continuing

to address issues that concern the maritime community

especially, training.

Come and join us, your ship mates and get your voices heard

for the betterment of our industry and the for the enrichment of

society as a whole.

Why You Should Attend:

To identify the training gaps and to develop

action activities.

To share the knowledge on challenges facing

METs, shipping and offshore industries

To gain an insight into what is available and

what is needed for enhancing the capabilities

and infrastructure of METs

To contribute towards the improvement of

maritime competencies for the safety of man

and material

To network and support the MET fraternity
