We are putting together

a new church directory this fall! You will be

able to sign up online (link below and also on Facebook page, website and sent via email) for a photo session time or we will have sign up sheets available on Sunday

mornings from 10-11 in the Welcome Center. Photo directories are great for new members getting to know everyone, so please make every effort to get your picture taken, even if you do not want to purchase photos. Link:

August is now upon us and I want to share some special news with you! Beginning this month, I am living as your church neighbor in the former “white house” on highway 64. The transition of this

house to a parsonage has been a result of much concentrated effort from our Staff-Parish Relations Committee and the Trustees Committee as well as a large number of big-hearted volunteers. I have been blessed and overwhelmed with the generosity and now the hospitality of this church to let me move and make my home closer to you. While I can see that both of us, myself and the church family, will benefit….you need to know how grateful I am to God and each of you. I look forward to having an “open house” event soon to welcome you for a tour of the home. I know you will be proud.

Wondering if this won’t be an incentive to help us as a church family to prepare ourselves and our church home for an “open house” experience for our guests. August is a great time to inventory and unclutter our classrooms, meeting spaces, and worship space. We can make our welcome visible!

church performances. The portable stage we wish to purchase

costs approximately $8,400. It is made of heavy duty steel,

comes with handrails and guardrails and comes with a carpeted

deck. It also folds flat for easy storage! (No more leaving it up in

the gym!) So far, we have raised $3072.50 through specific

memorials and other donations. To make a special donation to

Church Cooking Team Helpers We need help! If you are willing and able, we would love for you to be a part of a

cooking team for Wednesday night suppers. This is only a once every 4 weeks

commitment September-November and January - April. Planning meeting is August 5th at 10am in the FLC>

Bible Study Fellowship (International) Engaging, thought provoking and filled. Deep sharing

and friends; These are just a few of the terms that come to mind in regards to participating in BSF.

The subject for this next year’s study is “ACTS and LETTERS of the APOSTLES”. Classes will begin in

September and continue through early late April or early May.

The study group for men meets at Pleasant Hills Baptist Church on Troup Hwy, Monday evenings at 6:50pm; Women have two choices: Lane’s Chapel UMC, Old Jacksonville HWY, Monday evenings at 6:45pm or Colonial Hills Baptist Church, South Broadway, on

Wednesdays at 9:00am. Start dates for the groups are Monday 9/9/19 & Wed.

9/11/19. There is no charge for this study, but offerings are

accepted. The website to check things out and select a group is www.bsfinternational.org. If you do sign up one of the leaders of that particular group will get in contact

One of our dear members, Bette Jones,

passed away July 19, 2019. At her request, no

services are planned, but a private burial was done in Edom.

Bette was born April 9, 1930, to the late William C. and Lee

Nora Bolland Mizzle in Louisiana, moving to Ben Wheeler the

same year. She attended Pine Bluff and Edom Schools, graduated

Van High School at age of 16 with honors, then graduated from

Federal Institute of Business in Tyler. She was employed several

years in Dallas. After moving to Brownsboro in 1973, she began

work at the Statesman newspaper in 1976 where she was

employed for 35 years before retiring. She then began doing

freelance stories for two newspapers. Mrs. Jones was a long-time

member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, and a 50-

year member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed

doing needlework, genealogy research, traveling and spending

time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Aubrey G.

Jones, sons, William Michael Mullins and wife Edna of Merraro,

LA, and John Darian Jones of Ben Wheeler, daughters, Shea

MacKinnon of Kenner, LA, and LaDonna Prewitt, Carrollton.

If desired, memorials may be made to Pleasant Retreat United

Methodist Church Property Fund.
