Principal’s Message
Pleasant Grove Elementary Gazette
May 2018 Welcome to the last month of school! Wow!
As we enter our last few weeks of school, I am looking forward to our end-of-year activities such as the talent show, unity day, AR BBQ/party, and 6th grade promotion. Please mark your calendars so you don’t miss these great events! We are kicking off this last month of school with Staff Apprecia-tion, April 30-May 4. We are blessed to have such a wonderful group of people who make Pleasant Grove a wonderful learning & growing experience for our children. I am so thankful for each and every one of them. A special thank you to Kayleen and Dolly for being the glue that holds PGES to-gether and making it run like a well-oiled machine!
A giant THANK YOU to Rosa Quirarte, Erin Johnson, and Sommer DellaBitta, the “Lassos and Lace” dinner and auction chairs, for the many hours put into making our annual fundraiser not just a success but a fun event for all who attended as well. Another thank you goes to all of you who helped make “Lassos and Lace” an evening to remember.
As the school year comes to a close, so does the tenure of our current PTA board… Kate Nuttall- President, Aron Allee- Vice President, John Lorraine- Treasurer, and Sherri Looper- Secretary. I thank them for the countless hours each of them put into making sure our school is an awesome place for all students, staff, and families. Thank you for your partnership this year! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
What a wonderful year this has been. As we wrap up the 17/18 school year and begin to think about looking ahead to 18/19, it’s bittersweet for the PGES family. It’s time to say HAPPY RETIREMENT to Mrs. Julie Lewis, Mr. Martin Lyons, and Mrs. Deborah Pineau. We THANK YOU for your many years of service to not only PGES but to education. You have improved the lives of hundreds of kids. They will be greatly missed, but we also get to welcome new faces to PGES, Kathleen Eversden (3rd) and Lisa Praxel (4th). These veteran teachers bring many years of experience and fresh ideas to PG. We can’t wait for you to join the Tiger Team!
Lastly, make sure to take time this summer and enjoy every moment with your family. I’m very excit-ed about the years to come! Thank you for sharing your children with me. Yours in education, Deidra Wood Principal
Our Newsletter is published each month and will contain information to assist in keeping you informed of activities and events in which your student may be involved. We will continue to provide information that you may find useful

Calendar of Events
When your child is contagious, please keep him/her home. Otherwise, please try to schedule vacations and trips on non-school days and schedule appointments for after school. Although absences are up (resulting in a loss of $95,520 in funding), our number of tardies and early dismissals are showing great improvement from last year! Keep up the great work, Tigers! Current numbers through April 27th - Tardies – 2329 (Down from 2584 same time frame last year) Early Dismissals – 944 (Down from 1029 same time frame last year) Absences – 2388 (UP from 2283 same time frame last year)
Gearing up for the new year! There is definitely a buzz in the air as we approach the end of the school year. Stu-dents are excited to start summer break, but we’re sure parents are wondering about class lists and student placement for 2018-2019. Please keep these dates and factors in mind… We do not take teacher requests! If you have a specific reasoning to request place-
ment, your request needs to be submitted in writing to Mrs. Wood. These requests will be taken into consideration, but they are NOT guaranteed.
Class lists will be posted on Friday, June 29th.

Annual Auc t i on a Huge Succe ss!! Thanks to our PTA for the amazing Auction held on April 28th. By final counts had around 185 people in attendance and together we raised over $30,000. It was an amazing night of community fellowship and one we look forward to every year! It would not have happened without the support of our many parent volunteers and community members. Thanks to all of you for helping to make our event such a success. Your donations will help fund the 2018-2019 school year with giving ALL children a chance to participate and succeed.

School Accountability Report Cards Available
The current School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is available online at the Elk Grove Unified School District website at http://www.egusd.net/academics/assessments/school-accountability-report-cards/. Both a long detailed format and a short executive summary are posted for parents to learn more about the schools in our community. Each school’s SARC summarizes the school's mission, goals, accomplishments, and high-lights the school’s unique programs. In addition, state law requires that the SARC contain all of the following: demographic data, school safety and climate for learning information, aca-demic data, school completion rates, class sizes, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction descriptions, postsecondary preparation information, fiscal and expenditure data. The federal law requires that SARCs contain reports concerning the "adequate yearly pro-gress" of students in achieving state academic achievement standards; Title I Program Im-provement status; graduation rates at the secondary level; and the extent to which "highly qualified" teachers are teaching core academic subjects. A hard copy of these reports can be requested by visiting your child’s school office. Addition-ally, these reports have been translated in Spanish and Hmong at schools with large popula-tions of families who speak these languages. Any questions regarding the SARCs can be an-swered by your child’s principal or by contacting Learning Support Services at 686-7712.
