PlayStation Through The Years

PlayStation

Facts

The PlayStation was released in Japan on December 3rd,

1994 and in the U.S. On September 9th, 1995.

Some of the first games to come out for the system were

Ridge Racer, Warhawk, and Air Combat.

It was priced at $299.

PlayStation production stopped in March 2006.

Graphics

The graphics of the PlayStation in its day amazed people. But now with the kind of detail that is put into games the graphics of the PlayStation just don't really compare. The detail is pixelly and the color range is not very big. Also character movement is somewhat stiff and cut scenes aren't very smooth. But of course back in the day people thought it was awesome.

Special Features

There aren't very many special things you can do with the first PlayStation system, but one thing you can do is play CDs. You put the disk in like you would with a regular game and it takes you to a different screen. You can select what track to play or just play the whole CD, and you can choose to replay one song or the entire CD.

PlayStation 2

Facts

First released in Japan on March 4, 2000. A day later it had sold 980,000 systems.

By September 1, 2009 it had sold 138 million systems worldwide.

The price was $299 at the beginning and got dropped to $99.99 April 1, 2009.

Graphics

The graphics for the PS2 are better than the PS1 but not as good as the PS3. Sometimes you get a game with really good graphics and there is clear visibility and high detail, and also sometimes you get a game with medium-low detail and it's pretty pixelated. The colors in the details got a lot better and there are more mixes of colors instead of big blocks of solid color.

Special Features

The PlayStation 2 has a few special things you can do. You can connect it to the internet and play multiplayer games with friends (although I have never tried this because I heard it was really difficult to actually get a connection), You can play both PS2 and PS1 games, and you can play CDs.

PSP

Facts

The PSP was released in Japan on December 12, 2004 and in the U.S. on March 24, 2005.

It has had several redesigns and changes made.

The different versions of the PSP are the PSP-1000 (first one), PSP-2000 (September 2007), PSP-3000 (October 2008), and the PSP Go (October 2009).

Graphics

The graphics for the PSP can go a lot of different ways, meaning some detail is medium at best and other details can be crystal clear. Cut scenes have pretty good quality graphics, although they could be slightly better. It really depends on what game you are playing for the quality of graphics.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Special Features

Special Features for the PSP include but not limited to: photo, video, and music storage and playback, the ability to download from the PlayStation Store, remote play, gaming, UMD videos and games, internet browser, wireless internet connection capabilities, and internet radio.

PlayStation 3

Facts

First released in Japan on November 11, 2006, then in U.S. And South America on November 17, 2006.

The original price for the PS3 was $499/$599. It was later dropped to $299.

The PS3 is available with different storage sizes: 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, 80gb, 120gb, 160gb, and 250gb, and they are upgradeable.

Graphics

The graphics for the PS3 are really good. In some games the streets, grass, and water look really realistic. Movements of game characters are nice and smooth, not stiff and choppy like PS1. Cut scenes are very detailed and sometimes look like an actual movie.
