"Student representatives of two of Southern California's outstanding high schools engage tonight in spirited,yet friendly competition for the most coveted honor in prep football, tl're CIF Southern Section championship.When the whistle blows for the opening kickoff, the boys on the field will have achieved that to ivhich everyhigh school football player aspires, the privilege of wearing his school colors in the championship game. Eachboy playing for the competing high school has won the right to represent his school in CIF competition bybeing a good citizen in his school and by doing passing work in his curriculum.

The CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) is the organization which has been recognized by the Cal-ifornia State Department of Education as the body to govern ancl control high schooi athletic competition.Founded in 1914, the CIF has grown 1o the point where the State of California has been clivided into eightsections, of which the SS t Southern Section ) is the largest, both in nnmber of schools and size of territory.The Southern Section now numbers 308 schools as members. It covers the area from the Airzona. Nevada.and Mexico borders, north to the High Sierra country of Bishop ancl Lone Pine, and along the coast northwardto Paso Robies.

The rules of the CIF have been developed over the past forty-four -vears by the principals of your high schoolsto make certain that each athletic event and season witl be part of the educational program of the school,that friendship and cordial relationships in accordance with sound educational practices, will make for bettercitizens in our communites of tomorrow.

The CIF Southern Section is administered b1' a Council of represeniatives from each of our thirty-sevenleagues, anc by an Executive Committee elected by the Council. Under policies established by the Council andExecutive Committee, the Commissioner of Athletics supervises the interschooi competition.
