About I-Play Founded in 2008 by Myke Masters Lewis I-Play Music is the ideal place for people of all ages to come and learn how to play, Electric Bass, Drums, Piano, Electric Guitar and Vocals.

Our courses aim to take students from absolute begin-ner all the way up to university level. We also encour-age our students to take the RSL examinations this will ensure they earn a valuable qualification that will assist with university applications. However if you would like a more relaxed learning experience we cater for this also.

At I-Play we encourage improvisation in performance as we feel this is the perfect way to learn and become familiar with your chosen instrument.

Playing solo is an amazing skill to have but to become a well rounded musician you need to play in a band! With this in mind every summer term all our students are placed in bands in preparation for their end of year Concert & Presentation Awards Ceremony.

Meet The Chief Music Executive

With a huge passion to pass on knowledge of music through the art of playing, Myke inspires individuals to grow in confidence by doing just that, playing!

As a professional musical artist, arranger and composer and with the Electric Bass being his ‘first’ instrument and Drums his second. Myke brings to the centre, many years of professional public performance experience. Individuals are in a unique posi-tion to learn from this and are able to relate and rely on his teach-ings, either direct or through the tutors so students may add to their own performing experiences.

His focus is on individual personal development through one-to-one and group tuition. At all levels, individuals learn how to: Sing, play Bass Guitar, Drums, Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Keyboards and Piano.

Myke has implemented an approved teaching style, which after many years of research and practical study, demonstrates good prac-tice in facilitating the eruditions of music. Music software pro-grammes are included as extra tools in conjunction with learning, whether for fun or “Extra-Curricular” study; the results are rewarding.

Meet The Tutors

Lurleen Vernon Freddie Thomas Ryan Nicholls At the age of six Freddie was gifted his first guitar and he has been enthralled with the instrument ever since. In-spired by his teachers and past greats Freddie studied the technique of other guitarists to develop a deeper under-standing of the Instrument. The study of multiple genres, such as Blues, Funk and Metal informed Freddie’s theoreti-cal knowledge of music but it was play-ing in bands and gigging that fine tuned his abilities. Freddie believes the best way to way learn is through playing, so he plays along with students whilst they learn giving encouragement and support every step of the way.

Nottingham Born Lurleen Vernon a London College of Music graduate has had a long successful career in music and performance. From touring the USA with the British Youth choir, per-forming at famous venues such as Grace Cathedral and Disneyland, to her her own solo performance at Wem-bley arena. Lurleen draws on her expert knowledge, experience and skill to Imbue her students with a well informed view of the world of profes-sional music. A fun and practical teacher with a warm personalty that students of all ages immediately warm to.

A product of the I Play Music school Ryan has been involved since its incep-tion. As a student here he achieved a Rockschool grade 8 performance certi-fication in Bass guitar. Since graduat-ing from I Play Music Ryan has been involved with numerous bands and been part of the house band for local open mic nights. Beside his instrument playing Ryan has developed a talent for sound production. In the studio Ryan has produced eps and singles for bands and provided many of the students at I Play Music with their first experience of recording in a professional studio.

From grade 6 you will be earning UCAS points that can be used to gain entry to university. This makes I-Play Music Production the perfect companion for students studying A-level or BTEC. This Autumn we are piloting the I-Play Music Produc-tion courses. Developed by industry professionals we aim to give students a comprehensive level of academic train-ing alongside unparalleled industry insight.

From grades 1-5 you will learn the fundamentals of Music production, in the most up to date Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) of your choice, so whether that be LOGIC Pro X, Pro Tools, Cuebase or Garage Band.

As we always have our eye on your future career we will in the higher grades expect you to tailor your learning to your chosen area of specialism. This includes audio production, electronic music production and sound for media.

Theory (25%): A theoretical written examination that will test your knowledge of Music production terminolo-gy and sound and audio fundamentals.

Practical Assessment (60%): The practical assessment is broken down in to two sections:
