Plastic Techniques Inc. was incorporated in New Hampshire thirty-four years ago, itsoffice and plant were located in the town of New Boston, population 922. Actually, thingsgot off to an inauspicious start during that cold winter of 1968 when a major snow storm, often referred to as a Nor’easter, stranded the tractor-trailer rigs that were haulingthe new molding equipment to New Boston.

We sat in our 3,000 square foot building, that once housed a buggy repair business, waiting for the storm to abate, the roads to be cleared, the trucks to be pulled outof drifts, and for our new venture to begin!

Of course, things did eventually get started. We have grown slowly and steadily duringthe past third century. Always remembering the customers, past, present and future, who give us our jobs and keep our company going and growing. We always remember thatcommitment: our products are safety related and nothing must compromise the qualitythat utilities have come to know and expect.

During the mid-1980’s, we moved to a new 50,000 square foot facility, designed and builtspecifically for ourtype of operation.

This new facility hasprovided room to growand its fire resistiveconstruction and firesuppression systems, heat and water recy-cling systems, airquality management sys-tem, and the like willallow us to continue toprovide an uninter-rupted supply of prod-ucts to our customersfor many years.

Our all new 2004 cata-log includes productsin eight different cat-egories all designed to augment the task of the lineman. We hope that as you look throughour product listings, there will be several products that will be helpful to you. Thereare a few products that were too new to make the catalog; so, if you don’t see whatyou need, call and ask; we may have it or maybe we can custom manufacture it for you.

If you are planning to visit Northern New England, please give us a call. We’ll sendyou a map and some tourist information listing the attractions in New Hampshire. Whenyou get here, we would enjoy showing you our production facility and sharing a cup ofcoffee, apple cider or whatever is in season.

PTI covers and lids provide weather protection for aerial baskets. Seal youraerial basket with either our Soft Covers or Hard Covers.

The Soft Covers are double sided for double the life. The foam creates asemi rigid profile that allows water to run-off, yet can be comfortablystored.

The Hard Covers provide rigid protection for snow and ice build up. Con-structed of rugged polyethylene with U.V. inhibitor added. These lids arelight weight yet are strong and impact resistant.

PTI IS PROUD TO INTRODUCE THE LINER!

From the company with over 30 years of innovation experience, the liner provides an added level of user support and safety. By providing visible indication of wear, daily inspections are more accurate and easier to perform. In the lab, the savings in time are obvious. Find the holes before the electrical stage of in-service retesting! Our liners feature two distinct color layers which are molecularly bonded during the molding process. In effect, our liners are a single layer with two color strata that cannot separate. The main color (outside and thicker) has been designed and tested to pass required periodic retests, the secondary color (inside and thinner) is a wear layer designed to make it easy for crews to do daily visual inspections of this safety equipment. A dangerously worn or gouged inner liner wall will show the outer/main color, indicating a possible unsafe condition. This liner should then be replaced and retested according to each individual company’s work practices.

liners carry the standard PTI warranty.

- SECTION 4 -SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Actually, "Safety Equipment" could be the title of our catalog, since all ourproducts provide safety for linemen. However, this section catalogues peripheralsafety equipment.

Safety is a long term commitment. To assist in that commitment, PTI offers twonew skin protection products. The SPF 30 sunscreen will help protect your skinagainst overexposure to ultraviolet radiation. The insect repellent is beingoffered in response to customers' requests for help in deterring various insectsthat serve as vectors for unpleasant and potentially deadly diseases.

Our lights are designed to be rugged and useful while maintaining an extremelyhigh safety factor. This is most obvious in the fact that there is no exposedmetal on our lights. All lights have flood and spot. Rechargeable capabilitiesand a full range of replacement parts are available in all models.

The Glove Boxes and Blanket Canisters use a polyethylene that is blended to pro-vide the maximum protection from oils and chemicals commonly encountered in thetransportation and storage of the lineman's blankets and gloves. Bright safetycolors are standard. Most models can be shipped UPS/FedEx Ground. Color coding tofit in to your system is available upon request.

LINEMAN’S UTILITY LIGHT

PTI’s new UL-3 lineman’s light is proving to be quite anenhancement to our product line. It consists of a 200,000 candlepower halogen light which is almost 10 times brighter than ourUL-2 model. It uses a 6" diameter reflector with a 6.5 amp hourbattery with built in DC charger. This produces a 1 hour spot and5 hour flood. It uses a 55 watt H-2 bulb for spot and 12 wattP-2 for flood. The battery will recharge in 8 hours. The UL-3 ismade from a waterproof construction, all nonconductingthermoplastic.

With 2 bulbs, if one should burn out, the other will continuegiving a true emergency light. If the glass lens should break, theshock mounted bulb will survive. The bulbs can easily be changedwithout the aid of tools, and are less expensive than one sealedbeam.

The battery is a sealed lead acid, 6.5 amp hour with a rechargetime of 8 hours. It has both 12 volt DC and 120 volt ACrecharging capabilities. The light weighs approximately 9.5 lbs.

The UL-3 has two battery indicator lights on top of the batterybox. The Battery Condition light indicates the battery statusduring operation. It glows green during operation and changes tored when power is low (approximately 25%) and is in need ofcharging. The Charging Status light indicates the battery statuswhen charging. The L.E.D. glows red when charging, thenchanges to green when fully charged and is accepting a tricklecharge.

• Built-in Battery Charger

• Lead-Acid Rechargeable Battery

• 115V AC Adaptor

• 12V Wire Harness

Light Base HazardsWhen the plate is removed from a light base, (figure 1) the live wires may pose ahazard to passersby. The Protective Light Base Cover will help discouragesomeone from accidently touching the wires. It will also shield the base fromdamage caused by the sun, rain, ice and snow.

Light Base without a PoleThe Protective Light Base Cover easily slides over a light base without a pole.(Figure 2)

Light Base with a PoleBy removing the detachable lid on the top of the Protective Light Base Coverand unbolting a seam that runs down the length of its side, the cover may bespread open (figure 3). This allows the Protective Light Base Cover to beinstalled, even when a pole is attached to the base. (Figure 4).

General informationPTI’s plastic is a specially blended, non-conductive formula which ensures strongmechanical properties. The material has UV inhibitors added which retard ultra-violet degradation. It also offers excellent cold weather characteristics as well.

BD & BDL SCUFF PADS

Specially designed for Buckets without Liners

* Dimensions measured on outside of scuffpad and rounded off tonearest inch

The BD Scuff Pad series are made from a special grade ofpolyethylene.

It is purposely made a little on the soft side in order to givebetter fit.

It is suggested that the scuff pad be removed at weekly intervals andcleaned out. At the same time the bottom of the bucket should becleaned to remove dirt, pieces of wire, etc. This periodic cleaning willincrease the life of your equipment.

BD Scuff Pads feature PTI’s unique method of molding grit throughoutthe scuff pad which means that as you wear the surface, more grit isexposed so the non-skid surface endures.

BDL Scuff Pads are natural in color and are molded with heavier(nominal 5/16") walls than our BD model. They have non-skid tractionbars applied to the inside floor surface. Designed for heavy dutyprotection of basket floor when an insulating liner is not used. Unfortu-nately, BDL's are only available on a limited basis.

LARGE CANVAS SPLICER'S BAGOUR BIGGEST, MOST VERSATILE BAG YET!

This heavy duty SPLICER'S BAG, constructed of #4 canvaswith a molded bottom will hold more of your tools! It has 17generous inside pockets, yet is wide enough to carry meters, boxes of connectors and still get to your tools. The stiff sideshave an additional 13 outside pockets for a total of 30pockets, allowing you to carry a wide range of material.

The two sturdy web handles allow you to carry your toolsanywhere with ease. Two large brass grommets allow you tohang it off your aerial lift basket when you are aloft. Theultimate in a portable tool bag!

We recommend using PTI's PVC Bucket -Hooks* (ABH-1 forbuckets with 2" lips, ABH-2 for buckets with 3" lips) toattached your Splicer's Bag to your bucket. Both will allow youto hang the Splicer Bag either inside or outside of your aeriallift basket.

LINEMAN’S UTILITY LIGHTPTI’s new UL-3 lineman’s light is proving to bequite an enhancement to our product line. Itconsists of a 200,000 candle power halogenlight which is almost 10 times brighter thanour UL-2 model. It uses a 6" diameter reflectorwith a 6.5 amp hour battery with built in DCcharger. This produces a 1 hour spot and 5 hourflood. It uses a 55 watt H-2 bulb for spot and12 wattP-2 for flood. The battery will recharge in 8hours. The UL-3 is made from a waterproof con-struction, all nonconducting thermoplastic.

With 2 bulbs, if one should burn out, the otherwill continue giving a true emergency light. Ifthe glass lens should break, the shock mountedbulb will survive. The bulbs can easily bechanged without the aid of tools, and are lessexpensive than one sealed beam.

The battery is a sealed lead acid, 6.5 amp hourwith a recharge time of 8 hours. It has both 12volt DC and 120 volt AC recharging capabili-ties. The light weighs approximately 9.5 lbs.

The UL-3 has two battery indicator lights ontop of the battery box. The Battery Conditionlight indicates the battery status during oper-ation. It glows green during operation andchanges to red when power is low (approximately25%) and is in need of charging. The ChargingStatus light indicates the battery status whencharging. The L.E.D. glows red when charging, then changes to green when fully charged and isaccepting a trickle charge.

PTI Test Procedures

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

1. Every liner shipped from PTI receives the standard electrical test of exposure to50,000 volts, AC-RMS, for one minute on the day of shipment. Liners are uncondi-tionally guaranteed to withstand a similar test for 2 years with the only exceptionbeing physical abuse caused by the user. (We can't help the situation where alineman steps in with spikes). Under our guarantee, we replace the liner - full detailsare on the guarantee certificate.

2. PTI also supplies liners tested to 70,000 volts for one minute. Extra voltage testingrequires advance ordering since the liners are slightly heavier. Special manufactur-ing considerations are also utilized to ensure uniform testing. The 70,000 voltstested liners are covered by PTI's standard guarantee.

3. Liners should be subjected to a dielectric acceptance test by the utility to guardagainst any damage in transit. Re-testing by utilities is done on widely varying ar-rangements. We are familiar with companies who re-test every month as well asorganizations who do it every two years. What is best, is up to the individual safetydepartment.

4. All PTI testing is done with AC. To compare an AC test with a DC test, the DC volt-age would have to be approximately 2.5 to 3 times the AC voltage. It should also benoted that PTI measures voltage as RMS. This is equal to approximately 100,000volts, AC, peak-to-peak.

5. Additional general information on the liners and polyethylene material is printed onthe reverse side of our basket liner data sheets.

6. For further general information on liners, please contact our Sales Department at(603) 645-6800.
