The Cairns Skin Centre, based in Manoora, is a multi-disciplinary service offering skin cancer medicine, dermatology, cosmetic medicine and cosmetic surgery all in one location. The services offered at the centre are:

Plastic surgery:Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Nita Ling provides specialist services in cosmetic, reconstructive and skin cancer surgery.

Dermatology:Dr Simon Tucker is a Consultant Dermatologist with a special interest in skin cancer.

Skin Cancer:Skin Cancer checks and treatment are performed by Dermatologist Dr Simon Tucker, as well as our Skin Cancer Doctors – Dr Anthony Mahler, Dr Uri Scelwyn, and Dr Shelley Bourne – who are all members of the Skin Cancer College Australasia.

Cosmetic Medicine:Senior Cosmetic Injector Terry Hall is one of the state’s most respected cosmetic injectors and a licenced laser operator. She provides medically supervised anti-wrinkle, dermal filler and rejuvenation treatments.

Leg Veins:Dr Paul Davis, Dr Anthony Mahler, and Dr Uri Scelwyn offer non-surgical treatment for all types of leg veins – from spider veins to severe varicose veins.

Laser Treatment:Dr Uri Scelwyn, Dr Anthony Mahler and our Cosmetic Nurses provide a range of medical and cosmetic laser treatments. These include rejuvenation procedures, facial telangiectasia, tattoo and hair removal as well as treatments for medical conditions including acne, melasma, xanthelasma and sun damaged skin.

Plastic & Reconstructive SurgeryPlastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Cairns Skin Centre is performed by Dr Nita Ling.She has a special interest in Skin Cancer Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery including Abdominoplasty, Breast Reduction, Labiaplasty, Blepharoplasty and general cosmetic procedures.

About Dr Nita Ling:Dr Nita Ling graduated in Medicine & Surgery in 1988 from the University of Tasmania, after completing a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Bachelor of Science with Honours Degree in Physiology and Pharmacology (Tissue Culture) at the University of Queensland.She then trained and studied for a further 12 years, before being admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.Dr Ling is a member of the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Australian Society of Plastic Surgery, Queensland Society of Plastic Surgery, and American Society of Plastic Surgery.Patients seeing Dr Nita Ling will require a referral from their General Practitioner.

Leg Veins

Skin Cancer Clinic

Cairns Skin Centre deals with all types of leg veins from spider veins through to varicose veins. Patients do not need a referral but if you do give the patient a letter of introduction then we can keep you updated on the progress of your patient.

You do not need to arrange an ultrasound because at the initial consultation, following history and examination, a screening ultrasound is performed in the rooms. If this shows any significant truncal incompetence then the patient is referred for ultrasound mapping. If there is no significant truncal incompetence further investigation is generally not required and so the consultation progresses to discussing treatment options. In general this would consist of sclerotherapy though occasionally laser may be used. These treatments are currently performed by Dr Uri Scelwyn and Dr Anthony Mahler both of whom have undergone Preceptorships and been members of the

Australian College of Phlebology.When truncal incompetence is found, the treatment will generally be

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy either alone or in conjunction with Endovascular Laser Therapy. These procedures are performed by Dr Paul Davis from the Gold Coast and Brisbane-based Varicose Vein Clinic who visits every six weeks. The work-up and aftercare is performed by the doctors at the Cairns Skin Centre and treatments are individually planned through case conferencing.

Cairns Skin Centre offers a multidisciplinary skin cancer service consisting of Dermatologist Dr Simon Tucker, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Nita Ling and a General Practitioner based service.The GPs working in the Skin Cancer Clinic are all members of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia and are required to fulfil mandatory training requirements prior to working in the clinic. The multidisciplinary team means that complex or unusual conditions can be discussed on-site when needed to deal with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.Each consulting room has an associated dedicated Procedure room. More complex procedures are performed at the Cairns Private Hospital.Patients can choose to see either the GPs, for whom no referral is needed, or Dr Simon Tucker. A referral is required for Dr Tucker, preferably from the patient’s regular GP.Many GPs in Far North Queensland are excellent at managing skin cancer. The Cairns Skin Clinic is intended to provide collegiate support when and if needed which can range from a simple opinion or a skin check through to advanced specialist services. Cairns Skin Centre will host regular clinical meetings in our conference room to which all GPs will be invited to attend.

About Dr Simon Tucker:Dr Simon Tucker has worked as a dermatologist for over 18 years, studying at the University of Manchester and relocating to Cairns in October 2009.He has a special interest in the early diagnosis and management of skin cancer.Dr Tucker offers a full range of general Dermatology services including patch testing.Patients seeing Dr Simon Tucker will require a referral from their General Practitioner.
