Ben Drake-I Don’t Live Here......

Page 2: Planning music video

Artist/band/track• In 2002 Ben started a band with friends but it didn't work out as they had a limited number of instruments which

prevented them from progressing the band.

• But ben decided to not let this stop his dream. He spent the next 6 years learning Guitar, Piano, Music Theory, FLStudio 7, Mixing and Producing. And now he has 5 albums out, unfortunately he still hasn't had a big break and been signed.

• Ben uses a range of genre within his albums as he likes the variety and freedom of his work. His influences include: Force 5, Linkin Park, The Roosevelts, Relient K, As I Lay Dying, Lemon Demon, The Flashbulb, Atlantic, Etc.

• He lives in the U.S in a place called ‘Emily’. I don't know his age for defiant but he seems to be late teens early twenties.

Short summary (treatment)• I am creating a music video for an unsigned track called ‘I don't live here’. I choose this track

is it has two different sides to it, Happy / lively and creepy/lonely. Because of this unusual combination I thought that it would a very interesting track to work. Because it has two genre’s I’m going to make the video from footage for the lonely side and animation/stop motion for the lively part. This means that I can experiment with lots of different techniques. The other thing that made this attract appeal to me was the lyrics it had. I thought they were really honest and open but also gave me a lot of freedom. The lyrics talk about he’s ‘ special place’, the imagery place he goes to when he gets stressed and fed up. Form looking at the front cover, A big tree in open scenery, I decided to bass the many scene in an open field/scenery. I also got pictures of trees and flowers and clouds. I'm going to add a ‘cartoon’ effect to all my pictures and also draw some of my own images in. This will emphasize that he is only imagining this place, that it is not the real world. For the footage I am going to film it in the evening and preferably when its raining to add to the misery he is feeling. I edited the track to lengthen it to help strengthen the beginning and end to the narrative. The main influences of my idea was the opening credits to the film ‘Juno’. The style is not exactly the same as I want but it does give a good basis for it. The other inspiration i had was from the new film ‘Alice in wonder land’. This magical land has given me plenty of idea’s to create a magical imagery excape.

You cant get here by plane or carin fact its really much to farthis wide, expansive far off landthat nobody quite understandsexcept all of my closest friendscant see where the horizon endswhere reality ends and my thoughts begin

welcome to this place, its beautiful but only in my mindthere's trees to climb and clouds to chaseand naught is seen, of all I've left behind.

welcome to, my special placeits where I can find peaceit sure is nice to visitbut sadly I don't live here

this is my, my special placejust look at, all this skyand everything that grows herebut sadly I don't live here.

I don't live here.

this is my, my special placejust look at, all this skyand everything that grows herebut sadly I don't live here.

Starts off with 10 seconds of silence. This is where the guy is walking down the dark streets back home. I will use the foot step, car and rain noises in this section.

Then from 10 seconds until 45 seconds there is a lot

of distorted noise. This is where the guy will be

going into his house and into his room continually

touching his brow showing that the noise it

symbolising his headache and stress building up.

Then there is silence until 47seconds. In these

couple of seconds I'm going to have him lye back on

his bed, close his eyes and put his headphones on

exactly the second the main bit of the song starts.

This shows him escaping into his relaxed world

away from stress and work.

The lyrics don't start until 1 minute 25 seconds into the song. As the lyrics run through the animation is going to show the guy looking around seeing all these beautiful things happening to the scenery, such a giant flowers, friendly bumblebee’s and butterfly’s. The point of view will change throughout. Half of it will be from his p.o.v, the other parts will be looking on to him exploring the scenery

There is a large gap between

the beginning of the music

(47seconds) and the first lyric.

Within this time I'm going to

show, from his point of view,

flying in to stormy clouds going

into big beautiful white clouds.

It is going to end with him opening his eye’s. It goes back into footage rather than animation. This is where he wakes up back into reality, but he has a more positive attitude at this point. His still going to be grumpy but he see’s glimpse of things in his room which were in his imaginary world ( such as a butterfly) which gives him hope.

I’m going to keep all my animation to the timing of the beat.

Starts zooming into the cloud as if leaving the imaginary world.

Looks around the land

Sitting in the cloud, watches a train and car fly past and disappear

Looks at the sun

Tree’s start to grow random fruits and things. The clouds start moving and have expressions

Flower start popping up all over the scenery

Giant flowers start appearing and leaves fall from tree’s

production schedule /crew• I am making the video on my own. I have found a friend outside college to act in

the video.I have already taken my photographs for the animation.

• I'm going to take test footage within the next couple of weeks and soon after that will take the final footage.

• After the footage is done I will begin creating the animation on the computer.I think it will take me 3 or 4 weeks to create the animation.
