Location ShotsWe wanted to keep most locations indoors so the viewer could understand what goes on ‘behind closed doors’ in the abusive relationship. Hence we used the hallway for when the female arrives home. As this space is narrow, we hoped it would appear to make the couple feel trapped and be a metaphor for their struggle to leave.

The en-suite bathroom was utilised when the girl in the video is washing away her nose bleed, and inspecting the damage to her face. The bathroom is a conventional place, as most alternative music videos I analysed featured this setting, with notions to horror movies and games. This setting is effective because it becomes a tranquil place where the female can reflect, as she stares at her reflection in the mirror in an over the shoulder shot.The blank bedroom wall

was used when the female, when wearing bruised effect makeup, is lip syncing. The blank wall is conventional for alternative videos as the performance is commonly taking place in another setting to the rest of the video narrative, as seen in ‘Fun- We are Young’.
