Outside School Hours Care Series for Educators
When you work as an educator in an outside school hours care service it can be difficult to find resources to meet your specific needs. The
children are school age but you are not following a primary curriculum and still have to plan for a range of different ages with often
limited storage space and no time off the floor to get that paperwork completed effectively! Working in this type of care service requires
different skills and planning expectations to the 0-5 years early childhood services you might have experience in previously. I understand this
because I have walked in those shoes and that's why I wanted to create this series especially for OSHC & OOSH educators and leaders! I
want to help make your job easier!

How to use the Planners:
Included in this template pack are separate daily plan templates for before school care (BSC), after school care(ASC) and holiday/vacation
(VC) care programs. Follow the steps below to make your planning, collection of documentation and inclusion of the children's voices
and interests a whole lot simpler!
1. Choose the templates you wish to use for the week ahead (ASC/BSC/VC). Decide whether you would like to use the black and white or
colour version then if you require the digital or printable version.
2. If you choose the digital version please open your templates with the free Adobe PDF reader to see the greyed out fields in the boxes then
click inside to start typing. Remember to save as you go! Alternatively you can just print out the black and white or colour version and write in
the boxes if you prefer that way. You can of course also print the digital version once you have finished typing in your information.
3. To use the planners effectively and quickly I suggest adding just 1 activity or experience to each box and setting up your stations as
'free range' and 'organised' so you provide a variety of learning, leisure, autonomous, individual and group experiences each session. The
organised sessions will usually need an adult to support and set up and the free range activities are those areas or 'stations' you have set up
indoors and outdoors to invite free play with everyday materials e.g Lego. Encourage children to look at the planners and tell you what they
would choose - record their voices in your journal or diary!
4. To communicate the learning taking place to families through your program complete the 'why did our educators choose these activities'
section using easily understood language & explanations - no confusing educational or MTOP jargon required here!
5. Keep pads of sticky notes near your sign out table and the 'have your say about today' template. Encourage children to add their
thoughts to a sticky note and stick onto the template - there are extra frames for you to print if you have a big group and want to create a
display.At end of the session stick into your ed leader journal or educator communication folder. Use this information to help you extend
learning and show clear evidence of an ongoing cycle of planning future programs using the children's interests, observations, requests
and any family feedback received.
6. At the end of each week insert photos into your gallery template that tell a story about that week. Add a short reflection then display!
