Urbanization

As cities continue to grow the gap becomes smaller between rural and city. In the book it said that the global countryside has reached its maximum population and will begin to decline in 2020.

That means this explosion of slums will only continue to grow and expand at alarming rates.

Africa, Asia, and the Americas

Another part of Davis’ book that I found quite interesting and very alarming was his descriptions of the conditions of everyday life in the slums

He talks about the different countries such as in Asia and Africa that have experienced European foreigners coming in and star

The Americas was mostly contained until the industrialization surge shortly after the second world war that brought a huge wave of squatters who began to move to the edges of the Latin American cities ting to colonize.

Problems within the Slums

Now with more than half of the world’s population living in urban areas the world is beginning to experience massive problems

The issue of disposing of human waste is a rising problem and particularly large problem in the slums.

Rapid Growth in Cities and Slums

The facts in this books smack you right in the face. I have heard and known that urbanization has been growing in our country, but I do not think I understood just how rapidly it was growing.
