Sciences Po Lyon est un établissement public français d’enseignement supérieur dans le domaine des sciences sociales et politiques et des relations internationales, créé en 1948.

Il délivre un diplôme en cinq ans (valant grade de Master) qui s’articule autour de quatre grands secteurs : Affaires Publiques, Affaires Interna-tionales, Affaires Urbaines et Territoriales, Communication.

Lié à un mode de formation des élites du public et du privé bien établi en France à travers la tradition des Grandes Ecoles, son modèle éducatif s’apparente aux institutions anglo-saxonnes du type School of Public Affairs ou School of Government.

Pour intégrer Sciences Po Lyon en première année, il faut impérativement passer un concours organisé avec réseau des Sciences Po des concours communs (Aix-en-Provence, Lille, Lyon, Rennes, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Strasbourg et Toulouse).

10% des candidats sont admis. Il est également possible de passer un concours pour entrer di-rectement en 2ème année (concours commun à 6 IEP) ou en 4ème année (accès spécifique pour les mas-ters).

WHO ARE WE?


Sciences Po Lyon, founded in 1948 and also known as Institut d’Études Politiques de Lyon (Lyon Institute of Political Studies), is an undergraduate and graduate school of public affairs and international relations with a five-year degree that combines a Bachelor and a Master.

Entrance to the school is conditional upon passing a national competi-tive examination which is organized in common with six other Institutes of Political Studies, in Aix-en-Provence, Lille, Rennes, Strasbourg, Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Toulouse.

Only the top 10% of the candidates are admitted. There are two other specific examinations to enter directly into year 2 or 4, in the latter case for a Master’s program.

1ère et 2ème année

Pendant les deux premières années du premier cycle, l’accent est mis sur des appren-tissages fondamentaux constituant le socle d’un savoir commun en droit, science politique, histoire, relations internationales, économie et sciences de l’information et de la communication.

Tous les étudiants doivent étudier deux langues vivantes. Les étudiants ont également la possibilité de préparer, en parallèle, des diplômes d’établissements (250 heures de cours supplémentaires) qui portent sur les aires géographiques et culturelles suivantes : Europe, Amérique latine et Caraïbes, Etats-Unis, Afrique subsaharienne contemporaine, Monde arabe contemporain et Monde extrême-oriental contemporain.

3ème année

La troisième année est consacrée à la mobilité internationale. La grande majorité des étudiants effectue un an d’études dans l’une des 150 universités partenaires de Sciences Po Lyon.

L’année de mobilité est l’opportunité de découvrir de nouvelles méthodes d’enseigne-ment et de nouveaux cours, mais aussi de commencer à identifier une future spécia-lisation. Un petit nombre d’étudiants effectue un séjour mixte qui se compose d’un semestre d’études et d’un semestre de stage à l’étranger ou en France.

4ème et 5ème année

Après leur retour à Lyon, les étudiants peuvent choisir de se professionnaliser dans 4 parcours spécialisés :

• Affaires Internationales, • Affaires Publiques, • Affaires Urbaines et Territoriales, • Communication/Journalisme.

Nombreux sont ceux qui préparent le diplôme de Sciences Po Lyon et, en parallèle, un diplôme de Master national que Sciences Po Lyon propose en partenariat avec l’Univer-sité Lyon 2 ou l’Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon.

L’offre interne de 4ème et 5ème année vise plusieurs voies de spécialisation et de professionnalisation (affaires européennes : entreprises et institutions ; carrières publiques ; communication, culture et institutions ; conduite de projets et développe-ment durable des territoires ; coopération et développement au Maghreb et au Moyen-Orient ; gestion de projets, coopération et développement en Amérique latine ; globalisa-tion et gouvernance ; journalisme, médias et territoires ; management du secteur public et des partenariats public/privé ; stratégies des échanges culturels internationaux) et se clôture par un stage de fin d’études, durant le 2ème semestre du M2.


RECHERCHE

Sciences Po Lyon s’appuie sur une recherche pluridisciplinaire, qui porte notamment sur les thématiques :

Doctorat de science politique de l’Université de LyonSciences Po Lyon assure la gestion pédagogique et administrative du Doctorat de science politique de l’Université de Lyon, dans le cadre de l’Ecole docto-rale « Sciences Sociales ».

Quatre-vingts doctorants y préparent leur thèse chaque année, accueillis par plusieurs laboratoires.

La revue « Mots. Les langages du politique »Sciences Po Lyon abrite la direction de la revue « Mots. Les langages du politique », seule revue francophone dédiée à l’étude des langages du po-litique.

LE DEUXIÈME CYCLE

STUDY PROGRAMSAND RESEARCH

FIRST CYCLE

First and second years

The curriculum at Sciences Po Lyon is divided into three stages:In years 1 and 2, the students receive a multidisciplinary education in social sciences with an emphasis on law, political science, history, economics, and media studies. They also have to study two foreign languages.

Through a series of optional in-house degrees which add an average of 250 hours of classes over two years, Sciences Po Lyon has acquired a strong identity in area studies, with programs on Europe, Asia, the Arab World, Latin America, the United States, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Those degrees enable our students to obtain an initiation in the politics, economies and cultures of those areas. There is no specialization for the students at this stage. The insis-tence is on the acquisition of solid foundations in social sciences.

Third year

Year 3 is, for the great majority of students, spent abroad, in one of our 150 partner institutions. The year abroad is both an occasion to discover new teaching methods and objects and to start identifying a specialization. A modest number of students combine one semester abroad with a 4-to-6 month internship, either abroad, preferentially, or in France.

Fourth and fifth years

Upon their return to the Lyon campus, fourth-year students have a choice between four streams :

• International Affairs,• Public Affairs,• Urban and Territorial development,• Communication/journalism.

Most students complete at the same time the Sciences Po Lyon degree, which is the equivalent of a Master’s Degree, and a national Master’s Degree awarded by our partner universities or schools such as Université Lyon 2 or Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon.

At this point, the students have a wide range of choices. Specialties include Public Po-licy and Comparative Government, Sustainable Development and Cooperation in Latin America, Journalism, Urban Studies, Communication for International Cultural Organi-zations, European Business and Institutions.

Sciences Po Lyon aims at a high degree of professionalization as a majority of our stu-dents enter the work market upon graduation. As a result, most students spend the second semester of their 5th year doing an internship in the public or private sector in France or abroad.

The Political Sciences Doctorate of the University of Lyon.Sciences Po Lyon is also operating the political sciences doctorate of the University of Lyon within the doctoral school “social sciences”.

At present, 80 PhD students are preparing their the-sis in collaboration with several laboratories.

The Magazine « Mots. Les langages du politique »Sciences Po Lyon is also housing the magazine « Mots. Les langages du politique » which is the only French-speaking one dedicated to studies about po-litical languages.

Depuis 1990, Sciences Po Lyon s’est engagé dans une politique de développement de son secteur des relations internationales. Sciences Po Lyon offre aux étudiants internationaux de ses universités parte-naires formules de formation :

ÉCHANGESINTERNATIONAUX

LES ÉTUDIANTS EN ÉCHANGE ASSISTENT ÉGALEMENT AU STAGE

DE PRÉ-RENTRÉE PRUNE.

Ce stage de 40h est offert à tous les étudiants Erasmus + qui viennent en échange à Sciences Po Lyon et permet d’obtenir 4 ECTS. Il propose un enseignement intensif de la langue française à l’écrit et à l’oral et des modules permettant de mieux appréhen-der les exercices universitaires, mais aussi des conférences et visites de Lyon. Les étudiants venant des pays hors Erasmus + peuvent y participer, mais doivent payer les frais d’inscription de 275 €. L’inscription est obligatoire et doit se faire auprès du Service des Relations Internationales de Sciences Po Lyon.

Pour le premier semestre, le stage a lieu du 1er au 9 septembre 2016 et le stage du deuxième semestre a lieu du 3 janvier au 13 janvier 2017.

Libre choix de cours dans l’offre de formation de 1ère, 2ème et 4ème année.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES

WE ARE OFFERING EXCHANGE STUDENTS THE PRE-UNIVERSITY

TRAINING MODULE PRUNE.

The 40h pre-university training module is offered to all Erasmus + exchange students coming to Sciences Po Lyon. Students may ob-tain 4 ECTS. It proposes an intensive French language teaching (written and spoken language proficiency) and modules which help familiarize students with university exercises. Conferences and a visit of Lyon are also integrated. Students coming from non-Erasmus + countries may attend the training but have to pay fees of 275 €. All students must register before attending via the Sciences Po Lyon international office.

Courses will take place before the beginning of the first semester: September 1st to September 9, 2016 and before the second semes-ter: January 3 to 13, 2017.

You have to bring with you all documents necessary for registration. It is your responsibility to obtain them:

• A valid passport or identity card. • Two identity photographs. • Proof of registration in your home university.

a student from the European Union, you have to bring with you the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The EHIC must be valid for the duration of your stay in Lyon.

a non-European student or student from the European Union living outsite EU: students must be registered under the social security scheme. It will be done during the enrolment procedure and you have to pay approximatively 215 €.

PREPARING YOUR BUDGET

To live comfortably in Lyon, you should aim to have a budget of around 600€ to 800€ a month to spend on rent, food, social activities, etc. When you arrive, expect to pay around 1.500 € in the first month to cover initial costs such as your deposit, rent, electricity and water.

If you are not a European Economic Area citizen, you will have to apply for a Student Visa before arriving in France at the French Consulate in your country.

a Long-Stay Visa with the quote “carte de séjour à solliciter dans les deux mois”: you will have to complete an application file for a residence card within the first two months of your stay in France.

LE SYSTÈME DE COURS

LES CERTIFICATS

Vous avez la possibilité de préparer lors de votre séjour à Sciences Po Lyon un certificat.

Attestation d’Etudes Politiques (AEP) Programme semestriel avec des cours en français que vous pouvez choisir librement parmi les cours de 1ère, 2ème ou 4ème année. Toutefois, vous devez respecter scrupuleusement la maquette suivante : 3 CO (cours d’ouverture), 1 CDM (conférence de mé-thode), 4 CF (cours fondamental) de 24 heures ou 3 CF de 36 heures et le cours de FLE.

Certificate of French and European Studies (CFES) Le certificat se compose de 8 modules d’enseignements en anglais à 3 ECTS sur l’Europe et la France et d’un cours de FLE obligatoire de 96 heures (6 ECTS).

Certificat d’Etudes Politiques (CEP) Programme annuel avec des cours en français que vous pouvez choisir librement parmi les cours de 1ère, 2ème ou 4ème année. Toutefois, vous devez respecter scrupu-leusement la maquette suivante : 6 CO, 2 CDM, 8 CF de 24 heures ou 6 CF de 36 heures et 2 cours de FLE.

Sciences Po Lyon applique le système ECTS pour faciliter la reconnaissance de vos études à Sciences Po Lyon. Le système de notation se trouve sur notre site.

L’inscription est organisée par le Service des Relations Internationales de Sciences Po Lyon. C’est à ce moment que vous devez nous remettre les documents préparés en amont et votre attestation d’assurance responsabilité civile.

Vous devez la réaliser dès votre arrivée à Lyon car vous en avez aussi besoin pour la location de votre chambre ou appartement. Vous pouvez cotiser à cette attestation soit à la banque lors de l’ouverture de votre compte, soit aux mutuelles étudiantes :

pour une annéeLes cours du premier semestre commencent en général mi-septembre et se ter-minent fin décembre. Les cours du deuxième semestre débutent en janvier et se terminent fin avril. Tous les examens ont lieu le mois suivant la fin des cours. Le calen-drier exact est distribué lors de la réunion d’information au début du semestre.

L’assiduité aux cours est obligatoire. Vous pouvez choisir des cours de la 1ère, 2ème et 4ème année du diplôme de Sciences Po Lyon et les cours des différents diplômes d’établissement (DE), à l’exception parfois de certaines conférences de méthode (CDM).

COCSCours fondamentaux (CF)

Ils ont pour objectif de présenter les grands axes conceptuels d’une dis-cipline ou l’état des connaissances sur un problème à travers plusieurs disciplines et regroupent de 100 à 220 étudiants. L’évaluation se fait en général par un examen écrit.

24 h à 3 ECTS36 h à 4 ECTS

Conférences de méthode (CDM)Elles reposent sur une participation active des étudiants qui doivent préparer des fiches de lecture, des exposés, des plans, des dis-sertations. Les conférences de méthode se rattachent en général à un CF et regroupent au maximum 25 étudiants. L’évaluation se fait par un contrôle continu dont les modali-tés sont fixées par l’enseignant en début du semestre.

22 h à 3 ECTS

Cours d’ouverture (CO) Cours spécialisés (CS)Ces cours couvrent un champ de connaissances et de réflexion spécifique. L’évaluation se fait en général par un examen terminal à la fin du se-mestre.

24 h à 3 ECTS

Séminaire(uniquement pour les Masters). Pour s’inscrire, il faut l’autorisation préalable de l’enseignant. L’évalua-tion se fait via la rédaction d’un mé-moire de 30 pages.

LE STAGE DE PRÉ-RENTRÉE PRUNE

Ce stage de 40h est offert à tous les étudiants Erasmus + qui viennent en échange à Sciences Po Lyon et permet d’obtenir 4 ECTS.

Il propose un enseignement intensif de la langue française à l’écrit et à l’oral et des modules permettant de mieux appréhender les exercices universitaires, mais aussi des conférences et visites de Lyon.

Les étudiants venant des pays hors Erasmus + peuvent y participer, mais doivent payer les frais d’inscription de 275 €.

L’inscription est obligatoire et doit se faire auprès du Service des Relations Inter-nationales de Sciences Po Lyon.

The process is organized by the International Office of Sciences Po Lyon. For enrolling, you need the documents you prepared at home and your personal liability insurance proof.

You have to buy your personal liability insurance during the first days after your arrival as you also need it for renting a room or flat. You can purchase it at a bank when you are opening your bank account or at student insurance companies like:

Lecture classes aim at presenting the major concepts and problems of a specific discipline or the state of knowledge in one interdisciplina-ry area for a group of about 100 to 220 students. In general, evalua-tion consists in one final examina-tion (written paper).

Conférences de méthode (CDM)Sections are smaller classes for groups of a maximum of 25 students and demand active participation on the part of the students who will prepare book reviews, oral presentations and essays. Generally CDMs are attached to a lecture course. Evaluation is most often conducted in class according to modalities announced by the instructor at the beginning of the semester.

Cours d’ouverture (CO) Cours spécialisés (CS)Electives cover a speci-fic discipline. In general, evaluation consists in one final examination

Seminar (only for master degree students): enrolment requires the instruc-tor’s prior approval and evaluation consists in a 30-pages paper.

PRE-UNIVERSITY TRAINING MODULE PRUNE

The 40h pre-university training module is offered to all Erasmus + exchange students coming to Sciences Po Lyon. Students may obtain 4 ECTS.

It proposes an intensive French language teaching (written and spoken lan-guage proficiency) and modules which help familiarize students with university exercises. Conferences and a visit of Lyon are also integrated.

Students coming from non-Erasmus + countries may attend the training but have to pay fees of 275 €.

All students must register before attending via the Sciences Po Lyon interna-tional office.

LA VIE LYONNAISE

UNE VILLE MÉTROPOLITAINEVENIR À LYON

Par avion Si vous arrivez par avion à l’aéroport de Lyon-Saint-Exu- péry, prenez le tramway (« Rhônexpress ») qui vous conduira au « Centre-Ville ». Prix du ticket : autour de 14 €. Un taxi entre Saint-Exupéry et le centre de Lyon vous reviendra à environ 60 €.

Par le train Si vous arrivez par le train, n’oubliez pas qu’il y a deux gares principales à Lyon, la gare de Lyon Part-Dieu et celle de Perrache (proche de Sciences Po Lyon). Les TGV viennent de Paris en deux heures et s’arrêtent tous à la gare de Lyon Part-Dieu ; certains seulement vont jusqu’à Perrache.

SE DÉPLACER À LYON

Métro, autobus, tramway (TCL)À Lyon, comme à Paris, le même ticket permet d’utiliser le métro, l’autobus ou le tramway.

Le “carnet” de 10 tickets coûte 15 €.

Vous pouvez utiliser le même ticket en métro, autobus et tramway pour un trajet ne dépassant pas une heure. N’oubliez pas de composter votre ticket à chaque changement de moyen de transport. Par la suite, votre carte d’étudiant vous donnera droit à des tickets à tarif réduit, et vous pourrez également choisir un abonnement mensuel.

Lyon est la deuxième ville de France en termes de population

étudiante avec au total 163 000 étudiants, dont

16 000 étudiants internationaux.

Lyon fait partie du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO avec des traditions culturelles et

gastronomiques riches.

MAGASINS ET SERVICES PUBLICS

Banques Les banques ont des horaires d’ouverture au public restreints (de 9h à 16h en gé-néral). La plupart sont fermées le samedi. Vous trouverez de nombreux distributeurs automatiques de billets de banque autour de Sciences Po Lyon et sur le campus “Porte des Alpes”.

Magasins Les magasins sont tous ouverts le samedi (matin et après-midi), en général jusqu’à 19h. Ils sont souvent fermés le lundi (sauf les magasins d’alimentation) et, naturelle-ment, le dimanche.

Services publics Ils sont généralement ouverts au public de 9h à 16h. Beaucoup de bureaux sont fermés entre 12h et 14h, ainsi que le samedi. À l’Université, les secrétariats sont souvent fermés aux étudiants le matin, et ils ouvrent de 13h30 à 16h30. Les services du CROUS et de l’Université sont fermés le samedi.

Bureaux de posteLes bureaux de poste sont ouverts au public assez tard (jusqu’à 19h parfois) et restent ouverts le samedi matin. Seule la Poste centrale (place Antonin-Poncet, près de la place Bellecour) assure une permanence téléphonique en dehors des heures d’ouverture normales. Notez qu’on peut téléphoner à partir de tous les bureaux de Poste.

A METROPOLITAN CITYARRIVING IN LYON

By plane If you come by plane to Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS), take the tram, Rhône Express which will drop you off at Part-Dieu station.

By train If you come by train, remember that there are 2 main train stations in Lyon, Lyon Part-Dieu and Lyon Perrache (Close to Sciences Po Lyon). All TGVs (high-speed trains) from Paris make the trip in 2 hours and stop first at Lyon Part-Dieu.

TRANSPORTATION IN LYON

Metro, bus, tramway (TCL) In Lyon, as in Paris, you can use the same ticket on the Metro, buses, and tramways.

Tickets can be bought individually or by 10 (15 €).

They are valid one hour. Tickets need to be validated or stamped before boarding. Your student ID will entitle you to special fares. You can also opt for a monthly student pass.

As the second ranking city in France as regards the number of

students, Lyon totals 163,000 students, of which

16,000 are international students.

Lyon is part of UNESCO’s world heritage and possesses rich cultural and gastronomic

traditions.

SHOPS AND PUBLIC SERVICES

Banks Banks have restricted business hours, generally from 9 am to 5 pm. Most are closed on Saturday. All banks and post offices offer 24-hour ATMs. There is one ATM on the Bron campus

Shops Shops are open through the week, Saturday included, generally until 7 pm. Some smaller shops are closed on Monday, either morning or the whole day. Most small neighborhood food stores and bakeries are open on Sunday morning.

Public services These are generally open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm. Many offices are closed between 12 and 2 pm. Most offices are closed on Saturday. At Université Lumière Lyon 2, offices of the various departments are often closed in the morning for students and open in the afternoon, from 1.30 to 4.30. Offices at both CROUS (Student social services and housing) and the University are closed on Saturday.

Post office Most post offices are open from 8 or 9 am to 6 or 7 pm for the large branches. Most are open on Saturday morning, until 12. You can make telephone calls from all post offices.
