The biggest strength of Alagappa University is a proactive
learning approach accompanied by well planned academic
pursuits. Sector specic specialised MBA programmes,
Innovative programmes in Micro Sciences, Trendy
programmes in Arts and Education are offered so as to
ll up the human resource gaps in different precincts.
Industry Interface is a routine process in the
campus in the form of visits, seminars,

In the last two years, Alagappa University has

Alagappa University has come a long way since its inception in
1985. Academically, we are at the forefront of developing new curricula
and new programs. We are also at the forefront of research and
development. Our faculty student ratio (1:10) is one of the best among
the State Universities of Tamil Nadu. In addition to the core and
elective courses, every student of Alagappa University gets value-
addition inputs in terms of foreign languages, communication
skills, behavioural sciences, games and sports. All these

CENTRAL LIBRARY
The University, located at a sprawling expanse of 450 acres boasts of an enviable infrastructure. Inspite of its locational constraints, the learners are provided with a sterling infrastructure. The ambience of the University is very carefully built in order to enable the inmates to be technology driven and eco-friendly. The ora and fauna of the campuses and internet hubs with wi- connectivity makes the University as a bee hive of inquisitive learners; it is a home away from home for them with a digital environment and lots of parental care from the teachers.
An Avant-garde Central Library is the pride possession of Alagappa University. The Library Management System based on Radio Frequency Identication (RFI), help the students with 24*7 access to precious learning resources. Alluring exterior, capacious reading halls, three tier stack rooms, trend-setting conference hall and discussion room are the unique features of the Library. It emblazons a startling collection of 1, 05,000 plus books, 200 plus printed periodicals, 100+ magazines and 7000+ online journals on varied subjects.
In order to full the faculty-specic information needs, the University has set up four faculty libraries to cater to the needs of Specic Faculties of Arts, Education, Management and Science. As a part of its societal endeavour, the University has partnered with Corporation Bank for setting up a Public library with a compatible reading environment.
Instrumentation has often been cited as the pacing factor of research; the productivity of researchers is only as great as the tools they have available to observe, measure, and do research. Cutting-edge instruments not only enable new discoveries but help to make the production of knowledge more efcient. Many newly developed instruments are important because they enable us to explore phenomena with more precision and speed. Advanced tools enable scientists to answer increasingly complex questions, and new ndings in turn enable the development of more powerful, and sometimes novel instruments.
University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) was created with the objective to uplift the quality of research in basic as well as applied eld of sciences carried out by the students, scholars and faculty members of this University.

INFRASTRUCTURE
AMENITIES AND FACILITIES
To create aesthetic environment for better learning, almost the entire University Campus has been made as Green and Clean Campus. Garden has been created in about 353000 sq. ft. covering all Academic and Administrative campuses. Botanical garden and ‘Alagappa Alumni Garden’ inside the University campus have been created to promote the furtherance of learning and to glorify nature.
Other amenities for students include exclusive residential accommodation for men (5 hostels) and women (6 hostels), separate international students’ residence for oversees students, mineral water facilities, health care centre and yoga centre.
Alagappa University has become the rst University in Southern districts to be a smart cycling campus. This will make the University a Health Conscious and Smart Cycling Campus. This is a green concept with a vision to make India a cycling country which would make it greater and help to reduce the environmental pollution. It is a “Healthy India” initiative under Swasth Bharat Scheme. This GPS based dockless bicycle, by sharing technology platform would allow the users (Students and Staff) to cover short distances by scanning QR code and ride the bicycle at a nominal cost.

In order to host such programmes, there are two mega sized, hi-tech centrally air conditioned auditoriums with a seating capacity of above 1000. A mini Seminar Hall and Faculty wise Conference Halls give scope for healthy academic interaction, research initiatives and extension endeavours. All the Conference Halls are fully equipped with Uninterrupted Power Supply, air conditioners and smart gadgets for presentation and dissemination of knowledge.
Alagappa University is spearheading ICT e n a b l e d l e a r n i n g v i g o r o u s l y . A l l Departments have smart class rooms adorned with digital boards, internet connectivity LCD projectors and Electronic podiums. GREEN CAMPUS
In a bid to make the campus green, the Alagappa University has launched ‘one student one tree’
programme on 10.01.2017 as part of the greenery programmes implemented by Department of
Botany and Centre for Swachh Bharat and Swash Bharat mission. As per the programme, each
student, after joining the University, would be given a sapling and he/she should nurture the
plant, till the completion of the studies. The students planted 1000 saplings at specied spaces
provided to them. Before going to their classrooms, they would take a look at the saplings and
before leaving for home, they would water the saplings.
Botanical Garden
The University established a Botanical Garden with 5 acres. The aim of the botanical garden is to
educate poor farmers regarding the benets of terrestrial biological diversity, which also plays a
vital role in maintaining forest ecology through pollination and cross germination and in turn
helps the agricultural process.
Children Park
Children can learn new skills, have fun, play and develop self-condence by spending time in the
garden tending plants and growing their own food. Most children enjoy being outdoors and love
digging in the soil, getting dirty, creating things and watching plants grow.
Ecological Park
Ecological Park was created for the purpose of preventing
extinction of Sparrows, Mynas and Peacocks by providing
hanging nest and feeding cereals and grams. So, the
number of counts in sparrows can be increased in
future, as they are listed in endangered
species. The birds can have the place of
survival in a secured shelter with
healthy atmosphere.

Department of Tamil
Tamil department was established in the year 1985. The Department gives preference to the literature of Sangam Age, Grammar, Journalism, Nattupurayial and to others aspects of sangam Literature. Central Institute of Indian Language (CIIL) in Mysore in conducting language training to the Sivaganga, Ramnad and Viruthunagar District, teachers.

Centre for Tamil Culture
It is highly tting that Alagappa University has started a "Centre for Tamil Culture" during the academic year 2015-16, with the objective of nurturing, preserving and propagating the rich Tamil tradition and culture. The Centre will also highlight the unique features of this ancient civilization and guide students to understand the nuances of Tamil culture and it will make known to the outside world the great principles with which the ancient Tamils led a life of glory.

The Department of English and Foreign Languages was established in May 2005 .Within a very short period of its establishment, it has been serving the ve-fold objectives of Higher

The eminent founder Dr. Alagappa Chettiar's interest towards classical music and traditional dance has paved the way for the emergence of the department of ne arts in Alagappa University. "Women" being the subject matter of the course offered by the department, it

Science
The Department of Library & Information Science has been

Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics was established on 9th May 1985, along with three other departments
Tamil, Physics and Commerce in Alagappa University. Those pursuing careers in

changing world. It believes that the best way to prepare for the future is
to develop a foundation from which the students can build careers
in many directions, gain some experience with how a specialty is
built on those foundations, and learn to use the most up-to-date

Ramanujan Centre for Higher Mathematics
The Centre aims to conduct and foster outstanding research and

State Level Quiz Programmes, ATM (Advanced Training in

The Department of Physics has established as Centre of Excellence in research. It has been recognized that teaching in this department is among the best in the country. Department of Bioelectronics and Biosensors
Bioelectronics is the innovative and emerging eld of science integrating electronics, physics, chemistry, biology and nanotechnology. This interdisciplinary eld represents the present and future needs of human resource for the biomedical, defense, environmental, agricultural, and food industries. Successful health care delivery requires effective medical devices as tools for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

Department of Industrial Chemistry
The Department of Industrial Chemistry, one of the prime Departments of the University, was established in 1985. It is to be recorded that the Department of Industrial Chemistry has been

Nanotechnology is fundamental, enabling and emerging technologies which allow us to do new things in almost every conceivable technological discipline. The Department of Energy Science focuses on the emerging challenges facing the environment and energy sectors. The Department has been undertaking research projects of National and
International importance in the eld of Biotechnology and attracted
funds from various funding agencies such as Department of
Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and
Technology (DST), Council of Scientic and Industrial

(ICMR), University Grants Commission (UGC), Dredging

The department intends at promoting an integral understanding for utilization of
plants and to explore underlying mechanisms for promoting eco-friendly
environment. Particular emphasis is laid on focusing the application of
current advances in systematic botany, plant conservation and

culture, applied botany, phyto-medicines, plant pathology,
genomics, DNA recombinant technology, sequencing

Skill Development
The Alagappa Institute of Skill Development (AISD) is a
pioneering initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu
and Alagappa University among the Universities and
other Higher Educational Institutions of our Country to
discharge its social responsibilities and Community
developments. It was transmuted as a permanent
Department in May, 2015 from the previously known,
Skill Development Centre (SDC). This AISD is offering
skill based vocational courses/programmes for youth to
take to employment in industrial sectors and self-
employment.
Under the Skill Development Centre, Alagappa
University-IL& FS Institute of Skills (AU-IIS), was
established in October, 2013, as India’s rst Skills Institute
offering University recognized and NOS.
The UGC has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 1.85Cr to AIagappa
Institute of Skill Development for starting the much
demanded Vocational degree programme – Bachelor of
Vocation (B.Voc) in a) Fashion Technology and b) Software
Development. UGC has sanctioned the grant
for a period of three years to start these
Vocational B.Voc. Degree courses from the
academic year 2014-2015.

SPORTS FACILITES / PARA SPORTSThe University has the distinction of having the Premier Physical Education College of the States as its constituent. With 65 years of existence the college plays an anchor role in nurturing talents of sports and games. An expanse of 100 acres with outdoor and indoor facility for almost all games is made available. Apart from students and staff members, all sports lovers, tness, freaks budding sport stars, common people can have easy access to the playgrounds and facilities.
The University has a para sports centre too for imparting training to differently abled children. Students trained by the centre have brought many laurels to the University by winning prestigious events at national/global level.
Twenty students trained in this Centre won 74 gold, 53 Silver and 48 Bronze medals at National level events. Mr. A. Selvaraj, a student of Alagappa University Para Sports Centre, Karaikudi, won the gold medal in Javelin Throw with a performance of 26.54 metres at the 7th World Dwarf Games held at Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
Differently Abled Students of Alagappa University Resource School, Karaikudi, bagged the Silver and Bronze Medals in the National Games conducted for students with all disabilities by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and Sports Authority of India, held at Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat.
