Close it all up- turn it to where it opens like a book. Label as shown- Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic
Open small flaps 1 at a time & draw lines to separate areas
Should look like this when you are done drawing lines to separate areas.
Form when molten rock (magma or lava) cools & hardens
intrusive
extrusive
Magma cools and hardens below Earth’s surface
Coarse grainedLarge crystalsEx: Granite
Magma reaches the surface as lava, then cools and hardens quickly
Fine grainedSmall crystalsEx: Pumice, Obsidian
Existing rock weathers, sediment erodes. Deposition in layers. Then compaction & cementation form rock
clastic
chemical
Non-clastic/organic
Made up of smaller pieces of rock
Sandstone- used in buildingsShale- used in ceramic tile
Coal- used for energyLimestone- fossiliferous
Organic- made from remains of living organisms
CalciteLimestone walls- building material, glass & paint
Dissolved minerals are deposited as water evaporates
When mineral crystals in existing rocks are changed by heat & pressure
Non-foliated
Foliated
GneissSlate
Have visible layers or bands

Uniform throughout(no layers)
