Objective To understand decimals up to ten-thousandths
Decimal Point
• The decimal point is ALWAYS read “and”
• The value of numbers to the right of the decimal point is less than one
Understanding Decimal Placement
• Say I have the decimal 0.318– The 0 is in the ones place– The 3 is in the tenths place– The 1 is in the hundredths place– The 8 is in the thousandths places
• Notice that the place values after the decimal end in “TH”
Different Ways to Write
0.318Standard form: 0.318Word form: zero and three
hundred eighteen thousandths OR three hundred eighteen thousandths
