Headline - PK makes it to the 200 crore club despite controversies

Summary -Bollywood news is that, even with the various controversies because of the religious content of the movie, Rajkumar Hirani directed and Aamir Khan starrer PK managed to become the highest grossing films of all time. Latest Bollywood gossip mill is buzzing with the fact that PK has broken the box office record of blockbuster movies like Kick and Happy New Year.

Rajkumar Hirani directed PK that released towards the end of December, was one of the most awaited films of 2014 and rightly so. The movie opened to rave reviews by the audience for the exemplary storyline and fantastic acting by Aamir Khan. But there is always an other side to the coin. Along with the refreshing response of the masses, the movie also managed to upset several opinion leaders because of the story that is based on the religious outlooks and beliefs.

Recently, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev gave out the message to socially boycott PK and the team involved in the film. He relayed in blunt words that the movie criticizes Hindu Gods and Goddesses. That is not it, there was an FIR lodged against Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan by Prashant Patel who is the Secretary of Hindi Legal Cell. He allegedly accused the actor and director of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. He also said that in one of the scenes in the movie, Lord Shiva was portrayed in a demeaning light as he pulls a rickshaw in which two burqa-clad women were sitting.

It didn’t end there as PK was targeted in the social media by The Hindu Jagram Shamithi and that resulted in a trending war on the movie with hashtags like #WeSupportPK and #WeBoycottPK. Several of these religious parties also vandalized theaters in places like Gujarat, Madhya Paradesh and Agra. Many such opinion leaders also demanded that the censor board who has approved this film should also be changed.

But the Aamir Khan starrer certainly had the support of his B-town friends. PK has been appreciated by many Bollywood stars like Pooja Bedi, Uday Chopra, Raniv Shorey, Shekar Kapur, Ritesh Sidhwani and Karan Johar. Amongst these was one of the most famous names in Bollywood , Salman Khan who stated without qualms that PK was an amazing movie. Senior BJP

leader LK Advani also applauded the film and said that movie was wonderful and courageous. Some sources also say that these controversies have affected the business of the movie in some areas but somehow despite all this, PK has managed to break all records at the box office.

PK is rumoured to have made close to 278 crores which proves that the movie has defeated other big shot Khan movies like Kick and Happy New Year which were the highest grossers in 2014 before PK came in theaters.

Now we can’t say that we are much surprised by this result, when everybody knew that the dream team, Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Aamir Khan was going to knock it out of the park once again with the pivotal help of Anushka Sharma, Boman Irani, Sushant Singh Rajput and Saurabh Shukla.
