52ND YEAR AT SAINT VINCENTCOLLEGE

The Steelers are celebrating their 52nd Training Camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., this summer. Pittsburgh has called Saint Vin-cent College its “summer home” since 1966. Through their first three de-cades in the NFL, the Steelers held their training camps at a variety of locations, as far east as New England and as far west as Wisconsin. In 1966, for the third straight summer, training camp for the Steelers was at the University of Rhode Island. The team was there through the fi rst four weeks of a fi ve-game preseason schedule. Then, after a loss in Green Bay to Vince Lombardi’s Packers, Coach Bill Austin wanted the team closer to Pittsburgh because the 1966 regular season was due to open with a home game against the New York Giants on Sept. 11. With no practice fi elds of their own at the time, the Steelers turned to Saint Vincent College. The team arrived in Latrobe on Aug. 29 and spent a couple of weeks on campus going through fi nal preparations for the 1966 regular season. In 1967, the Steelers conducted their entire training camp at Saint Vincent College.

2017 TRAINING CAMP HIGHLIGHTS The Steelers offi cially kicked off the 2017 season when the team reported to training camp on July 27 at Sant Vincent Col-

lege in Latrobe, Pa. The team’s 2017 training camp includes 16 practices open to the public - including the annual night practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium (Aug. 4) and the fi rst practice open to the public at Heinz Field (Aug. 6). The innagural Steelers Charity Walk benefi tted the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research, led by honorary co-chairs Joe Green and Garrett Webster, took place on July 29. The team’s fi rst open practice to the public at Heinz Field on Aug. 6 included numerous activities on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

CAMPING OUT The Steelers are in their 52nd consecutive year of preseason training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Pittsburgh’s 52-year tenure at the college is tied with the Minnesota Vikings (Mankato, Minn.), for second in the NFL for training camp longevity. Only the Green Pay Packers, who have held their preseason camp at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisc., have maintained a longer summer home for 60 years.
