As we begin to emerge from a year in which we were unable to host live performances, this word takes on special significance. We are very excited about the prospect of renewing a tradition that has been such an important part of our cultural life for many decades. In assembling this year’s Solo & Chamber Music Series, we have turned to some of the profession’s most gifted artists, who will bring an abundance of memorable moments to the stage of McCray Hall’s Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall on six Friday evenings across the academic year. The season will open in September with a lively and colorful program by the Poulenc Trio, an ensemble of oboe, bassoon, and piano. The month of October will feature the Merz Trio, an award-winning piano trio with a particularly vibrant approach to music-making. The fall component will conclude in November with an extraordinary solo performance by celebrated pianist Alon Goldstein. The spring semester will open in January on the eve of the 2022 Barbara Rondelli Statewide Vocal Competition with an elegant evening of Lieder and art song by German baritone Benjamin Appl. Joyous sounds will resonate through the recital hall in February when we host the exciting Seraph Brass ensemble. We’ll finish the season on the first day of April with a very special return of Grammy- winning guitarist Jason Vieaux, this time joined by bandoneón/accordion artist Julien Labro, in a program that is sure to contain a variety of styles and textures. We are more than ready for this renewal. We know that you are, too. Please join us for all six concerts! His musical journey has taken him all across North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His classical collaborations include A Far Cry, Spektral Quartet, the Qatar Philharmonic, and the New York Ballet, among others.
