Pitch Plan For MagazineBy Cameron Loftus

What is a Pitch Plan?O To begin the planning of my magazine creation,

from previous research I made a pitch. This outlined the basics of my magazine and why I chose to do this. It included slides on Possible Names, my Working Title, Possible Fonts, Colour Schemes, Magazine Style and Magazine Genre, Mission Statement, Fan Profiles and a Mock Up of what I’d like the magazine to look like as a flat plan . Doing this would help me set my ideas out clearly so that it makes the whole production side of things relatively easy as I will have accurate ideas and representations to look at from this Pitch Plan.

Possible names for my magazine

O Dance MagO Dance NationO The FutureO SoundsO UniteO I’ve picked these names because I feel they are

catchy and will reflect what my magazine is about and also the genre of music: dance.

Working Title

O The magazine working title is ‘DanceMag’ and it reflects the genre well. This is because the word ‘Dance’ immediately informs the reader of the genre. Hopefully this would influence them to pick up a copy if they saw it on a shelf in a supermarket for example. ‘mag’ obviously has it’s on connotations. Perhaps because I have shortened the word ‘magazine’ it shows that this magazine is modern with new and exciting ideologies encouraging people to buy it.

Possible fonts for Masthead

O I picked these fonts because once again they will represent the type of magazine I am making and are easily readable for the reader. I particular like the ‘Whoop Ass’ font because it is bold and how a masthead should be.

Colour schemesO As my magazine is based on dance music I

think it would be best to use bright colours with this genre of music. These colours will be mainly used on the background of my magazine pages and briefly on the front cover. Looking at the text side of things, the colour of the text will have a consistent colour of black as it will stand out on a bright background like I planned and therefore I think it will be a good effect. With dance music being my chosen topic of music, I feel it will allow me to show creativity with a wide range of interesting and sophisticated colours.

O Bright colours represent dance music well because of its upbeat nature, so primary colours like red, blue and possible yellow will feature fairly predominantly. However, these colours will have to be balanced with darker ones like grey and black because I also want to make my magazine look professional and fairly toned down in places where necessary.

Magazine StyleO The style for my magazine is going to be bright

and colourful with lots of photos with big and bold mastheads and titles and smaller font for the main text as it doesn’t hold as much emphasis and importance. Most pages will have a fair amount of text but the font will be clear and readable and in a dark colour like black to contrast with the other bright colours involved on the page. The background of each page will either be white or the colour of the photos I’m going to use. Bright colours like red and blue will be used on my front cover and contents page to stand out in a vibrant way.

Magazine GenreO My magazine would be a dance magazine, as it is my favourite genre of

music and also a fairly popular genre with the public and especially my target audience age (teenagers to mid-twenties). It will be released monthly about the latest news and with a big emphasis on up and coming dance artists. It will mainly focus on deep house and future house music and contain lots of features like: dance charts, interviews with artists, popular genres of dance music at the current time and will have things like free posters. The cost will be £4.50 as it is a reasonable price so will hopefully appeal to a wide range of people who take an interest in dance music.

O I have chosen dance music because it is a popular genre and in my opinion is up and coming so it is the perfect opportunity for me to out my own stamp on it. Furthermore, dance is my favourite genre of music which also had an influence on me choosing what type of magazine I was going to create. Dance music has a lot of sub genres so I am going to have to make sure I cater to all types of the genre to keep the audience happy and intrigued by my product. This means there can be a variation of articles and features like photos, meaning there is a large range of topics to talk about as opposed to just one type of sub genre which would potentially disinterest the audience. By generalising the name and genre of the magazine I hope this will entice a broader and wider audience so that I can hopefully sell a larger quantity of copies.

Magazine AttitudeO The attitude of my magazine is aimed to be

interesting, entertaining and gripping. With these three features I think it will epitomise the targets I have set for this publication. I use bold and bright colours for the font to grab the readers attention and the different font sizes are an interesting aspect. The font coupled with bright and exciting photos from a range of locations (from a studio to a live performance) makes for a deadly combination, once again portraying the magazines entertaining attitude. I also want the attitude f the publication to reflect dance music as a whole: bright, colourful and modern. I hope to achieve this in my final product as I feel this will help me achieve a consistent attitude throughout.

Mission StatementO As there isn’t a vast amount of dance magazines

currently on the market, I aim to fill the void left by the music magazine industry in general. This magazine will include an array of unique and interesting features for you to feast your eyes on. From interviews with your favourite dance artists to free gifts, this magazine will have everything you need to keep you gripped and entertained.

O Even if you’re not already a fan of dance music, you’re guaranteed to love it as soon as you pick this magazine up!

‘the newest and best dance magazine around.’

Fan Profile of David Guetta

Fan Profile of Avicii

Fan Profile of Calvin Harris

Overview of Fan ProfilesO All the demographics for all three

dance artists are women aged between about 18-30 and all have the same social grade.

O They all share a similar outlook on favourite artists which are generally pop and dance artists.

O Interestingly, the top region for all three is Central Scotland and the top profession for both is entertainment.
