Genre/Sub Genre We were given a brief to create a thriller opening. Under

thriller, we chose to do a psychological thriller as it would create suspense and keep the audience intrigued.

The Plot A detective is asked to solve a murder case; one of the

victims is the man who came to him with the case. The murder has not taken place yet, but will do in the future so the detective decides to investigate this and solve the case.

What the audience don’t know is that the detective has a split personality and is the murderer as well as the detective.

As the case comes to a close, she realises that she is the murderer but there is nothing she can do to stop it form happening.

The Opening What seems like a normal day for the detective, soon turns

out to be a life changing day for her. The detective walks into her office and is approached by a gentleman who asks her to solve a murder mystery. He hands the detective a cut out of a newspaper article, then leaves the room. Once he has left, the detective looks at the article which is dated in the future and then her other personality begins to slowly show, which will be demonstrated through the use of camera shots and edits.

Sound Most sound which we will be adding to our opening will be

diegetic sounds; such as foot steps, door closing, clock ticking and newspaper being put down on the table.

Background music will be added to help demonstrate what the detective will be feeling. For example, when she starts working there will be light and calm music; however, when her other personality starts to come through, an eerie music will slowly come in to show confusion and create a suspenseful atmosphere.

Film Target Audience The target audience of a film is hugely

important because it determines who watches it and who doesn't, based upon the content of the film. Our research has shown that thrillers are mostly particularly popular with males who are under 25.

We decided that our film would be aimed and marketed at a niche market – those who enjoy mystery and crime. Our target age range is 18-30 year olds as they would understand and enjoy the film more.

We will be giving it an age rating of 15 because there will be a strong use of violence.

Inspired By: Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde It is about a London lawyer named Gabriel

John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde.

The work is commonly associated with the rare mental condition often spuriously called "split personality", referred to in psychiatry as dissociative identity disorder, where within the same body there exists more than one distinct personality. In this case, there are two personalities within Dr Jekyll, one apparently good and the other evil; completely opposite levels of morality.

Skills Audit To DateIn the lead up to this main project, previous tasks have helped us strengthen our knowledge and helped us make our research and plan for the thriller opening to be successful.

Previous tasks have helped us to: Publish posts, videos, images, PowerPoints, Prezis etc. to

our blog Switch on and use a camera Experiment with angles Information on shot types and lighting How to handle the camera, tripod and other equipment such

as the lights Using FinalCut Pro to edit clips Using SoundTrack Pro to add sounds

Institutional Details For our thriller, we believe that Universal Pictures would be a

suitable production company for us. This is because they have done movies similar to our thriller, such as The Bourne Ultimatum.

Using Universal Pictures will help enhance our thriller’s appeal as they have done many successful movies and will therefore get more people to watch it.
