PiPeline neTWORKS:eneRGY eFFiCienT AnD SAFeOPTIMIZING FLOW PROCESSES!

Production and transportation of liquid

and gas consumer and industrial goods of

all types is unthinkable without the safe

and energy-efficient operation of hydraulic

pipeline networks. Pressure surges and

cavitation hammering, often caused by

closing or opening valves too quickly, can

significantly compromise safe operations.

The consequences include leaks, production

stoppages and even injuries to personnel

and damage to the environment.

Distribution networks also account for

a significant part of a production plant’s

operating costs. Based on more than 20

years of experience, the experts at Fraun-

hofer can provide almost every conceivable

type of practical and theoretical support in

designing and optimizing your water, gas,

hydraulic and chemical pipeline networks.

Our services

We calculate and optimize your pipeline

network. You enjoy the benefits of protection

against pressure surges, cavitation

hammering, impulse forces and vibrations

or disproportionally large accumulations

of condensables. Working with you, we

improve your valves and pumps on our test

benches. We check your pipeline networks

on site and determine the causes of hydrau-

lic or water hammering. We compute your

biogas reactors, check the performance of

your stirring units and create designs for you

for an energy-efficient production system.

Representative specific services

• Technical analyses and computations

• Determination of impulse forces on

piping anchorages (including partially

full lines)

• Thermal computations, e. g. district

heating networks

• Energy-efficient optimization of lines and

components, e. g. pumps, armatures

• On-site measurements, such as pressure

surges

• Innovative developments in laboratory

and technical equipment

Technological specifications

• Experimental hydraulic pipeline equip-

ment DN50/DN100, L = 200 m

• Pressure up to 40 bar, temperatures up

to 200 °C, flow velocities up to 5 m/s

• Testing of pumps, armatures, coatings

• Rapid prototyping of equipment to

optimize your components with respect

to wear and tear and energy usage

• Cutting-edge vibrations and pressure

measuring technology in the lab and

on-site.

• Expert personnel with many years of

experience industry projects
