INTRODUCTION.This report is being issued to delineate results of pipe sizing for Mogas Tank N0.6 fire-fighting system at Engen Petroleum (Mauritius) Ltd. The pipe considered for sizing are pipe supplying water and foam to cooling rings, supplying foam to foam box and dike foam box. METHODOLOGYThe flow rate, Q was obtained from the fire-fighting strategy and the speed,V of water and foam travelling in pipe was taken as 2.5 m/s.The following formula was then used to calculate the cross-sectional area,A of the pipe.

(1)

Furthermore, the diameter of the pipe was calculated using the equation below.

(2)Moreover, the nominal diameter of the three pipe will be obtained after performing the sizing of each pipe using eqaution 1 and 2.

CALCULATION3.1 DETERMINE CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA OF PIPE1. Determine the cross-sectional area, A of pipe supplying water and foam to cooling ringsFlow rate,Q for this pipe 0.0171m3/s

A = 0.00684m2

2. Determine the cross-sectional area, A of pipe supplying foam to foam boxFlow rate,Q for this pipe 0.007533m3/s

A = 0.0030132m2

3. Determine the cross-sectional area, A of pipe supplying foam to Dike foam boxFlow rate,Q for this pipe 0.02373m3/s

A = 0.009492m23.2 DETERMINE DIAMETER OF PIPE1. Determine the diameter, D of pipe supplying water and foam to cooling rings

D = 0.09332mD = 4 inch

2. Determine the diameter, D of pipe supplying foam to foam box

D = 0.06194mD = 3 inch

3. Determine the diameter, D of pipe supplying foam to Dike foam box

D = 0.1099mD = 4 inch

CONCLUSIONThe pipe sizing calculation performed in section 3 has concluded that a pipe of DN 100 will be appropriate for supplying water and foam to cooling rings, DN 80 for supplying foam to foam box and DN 100 for supplying foam to dike foam box.
