    PINK CHAIN CAMPAIGN

    PINK CHAIN is a 35 minutes docu-drama on Breast Cancer. It is a docu-dramaconceptualized and produced by Dr. Abhishek Shankar, directed by Ms.Vandana Vashisth, story, screenplay and dialogues by Mr. Asif Ali.

    The most common cancer in women worldwide BREAST CANCER

    Accounts for 15 per cent of all cancers and 30 per cent of cancers in women.

    100000 women diagnosed of breast cancer and 30000 die of it annually inIndia.

    It accounts for 28 to 35 per cent of all cancers in women in metro cities of India.

    1. What is PINK CHAIN?

    A movie by Dr. Abhishek Shankar - very close to reality about an Indian woman, who despite ofhaving a clue that something is going wrong with her body, kept ignoring it. Unable to face thetruth, and out of fear, she kept herself giving false reassurances, until time ran out of her handsand she was told the bitter most reality that she is suffering from the dreaded disease- BreastCancer. Her ignorance and delay in seeking medical help had led her to a journey of fear andpain towards the inevitable. But this was not the end, rather a new beginning which gave heran insight of saving others like her by creating awareness. So, a legendary effort by an extracourageous women about how she motivates her own daughter to spread this message of fightagainst breast cancer, in the precious most time left with her by creating a very special chain oflove, warmth, self-care, protection and early detection of breast cancer i.e. PINK CHAIN.

    2. How PINK CHAIN became a possibility?

    This docu-drama is a result of inner restlessness of a young oncologist who was in thinkingprocess related to the mortality and morbidity related to breast cancer. He thought why fewpeople are surviving for more than 15-20 years and living a normal life while one group who isunable to live for even 6 months.

    Ultimately one thing that came into existence that is causing mortality and morbidity related to

    breast cancer is Lack of Self-care and Lack of Awareness. Lack of self-care and concern, cando much damage and will cost our life, is never thought in such way. He decided to take a stepahead and planned to do something that can really help people to understand each andeverything related to breast cancer.

    Finally he made a docu-drama PINK CHAIN which is a story very close to reality of an Indianwoman diagnosed with Breast Cancer nicely covering the psychosocial, familial and otherissues related to disease. The way she fights with this dreaded disease and spreads themessage among others to practice self-care starting from her own daughter so that right actioncan be taken on time.

    3. What is Pink Chain Campaign?

    The campaign initiated as an effort by Dr. Abhishek Shankar and budding activists of PinkChain Faculty to create a chain of awareness among people (i.e. students, corporate sectors,

    general masses etc.) regarding breast cancer and other cancers like lung cancer, oral cancerand cervical cancer by-

    Screening of PINK CHAIN - A docu-drama on breast cancer.

    Organizing various camps and lectures by medical experts to teach people regardingdifferent cancers i.e. breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer-ways to prevent them, their early detection and cure of the same.

    Special focus is to cover all women colleges in different parts of country and makethem feel their responsibilities and join this campaign to teach others as a part oftheir social responsibilities.

    To solve the quarries and clear the misconceptions of the people regarding cancerand cancer related issues.

    To help and guide the people in the right direction already suffering from cancer bychannelizing them to get proper medical guidance to aid their better cure.

    4. Why this campaign started?

    As stated earlier there exists a significant variation in duration of survivorship among the

    patients of cancer i.e. where some people survive for years the others are dying within monthsafter the detection. Thus clarifying the need to create the awareness of why and how relatedfacts of cancer among the people, so that survival rate can be increased.

    5. What is the purpose of this campaign?

    The purpose of this campaign is mentioned as below:

    To promote the imperatives of breast and oral self examination in breast and o ralcancer respectively.

    To teach regarding usefulness of HPV vaccination in Cervical Cancer. To teach people how to adopt Say No to Tobacco and Alcohol attitude. To teach people regarding signs and symptoms related to cancer so that they can

    present to hospital in early stage in order to minimize the mortality and morbidity due tothe same.

    To get rid of false believes of people and medical professional that cancer cannot becured and spread this message that cancer can even be cured if detected early andright treatment taken at right time and at the right place.

    To promote the multidisciplinary approach of cancer treatment among medicalprofessionals for compliance of treatment to decrease the complications.

    To evolve the principle of social, preventive and rehabilitative oncology.

    To aware people regarding safe practices in prevention of cancer.

    6. What are the deliverables of this campaign?

    Deliverables of the campaign:

    To teach the college students and staffs regarding preventive measures in breastcancer, cervical cancer, oral cancer and lung cancer.

    To organize medical camps to screen the local population and teach them regardingself-care and safe practices in prevention of cancer.

    To organize events in corporate offices and sensitize them regarding cancer symptomsand other preventive measures.

    To screen the 35 minute docu-drama PINK CHAIN.

    7. What is Pink Chain Faculty?

    Faculty comprises of group of eminent medical professionals, teachers and other socialvolunteers working voluntarily as a part of their social responsibility to teach the peopleregarding cancer by promoting the concept of social, preventive and rehabilitative oncology.

    8.Who are the faculty members?

    These are the oncologists from different colleges and hospitals in India and will be involved inteaching the students and general population regarding various aspects related to cancerfocusing on early diagnosis and treatment.

    10. What is the goal of Pink Chain Campaign?

    The ultimate goal of the campaign is to literate the people how to prevent cancer by selfcare, early detection of cancer by self-examination and cure cancer, so that the precioushuman life can be saved from this dreaded disease by creating a very special chain of

    awareness to decrease the morbidity and mortality due to cancer.

    Our work so far:

    Previewed movie at KGMU, Lucknow with a very good audience response (March,2010)

    Movie presentation in Annual conference on Breast Cancer at MGIMS, Sevagramorganized by Tata Medical Hospital, Mumbai (March, 2011)

    Screened the movie and taught the students and teachers at Gandhi ashram,Sevagram regarding cancer and (March, 2011)

    Screened the movie and solved the quarries related to cancer with students ofMGIMS, Sevagram (March, 2011)

    Screened the movie and solved the quarries related to cancer with students of S. P.Jain, Subodh Girls College, Jaipur (Nov, 2011)

    Launched the campaign PINK CHAIN at B. D. Somani Institute of Art & FashionTechnology, Mumbai (Dec, 2011)
