SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTIONSIn your own words, explain the work of Pinewood Studios Group.
Pinewood Studios Group provides numerous locations around the world for production teams to realise creative visions, whether it be through the medium of motion picture or television. As providers of services related to the worldwide film and television industries they supply a platform to build some of the most successful productions ever made, such as James Bond. Pinewood Studios Group supply high-class staff, state of the art facilities and modern technology for all stages of production, helping create ambitious projects.
How will work experience with Pinewood Studios Group compliment your studies?
Work experience with Pinewood Studios Group will compliment my studies and future ambitions by providing me with insight into film and television production. Not only this but it will also illustrate to me how principles I’ve learnt, notably in physics and music, are used practically in the workplace. It will provide a link between what I have learnt and how it is used. Studying physics gives me a good understanding of sound and how it can be manipulated which is crucial in the modern age of technology and sound design. Work experience with Pinewood Studios Group would further my understanding of this.
What skills have you acquired that are relevant to a work placement with Pinewood Studios Group?
Skills I have acquired through my drive to do well and other work experiences will be relevant to a work placement at Pinewood Studios Group. In achieving grade 8 music theory at the age of 15 I developed self-determination and motivation to achieve tasks that otherwise would have been a struggle. Preparing for my DipABRSM exam I learnt how to be level-headed under pressure and potentially stressful situations. This has further been backed up by my work at a local livery yard where I have become a reliable worker in all conditions adapting and reacting to unpredictable situations. Through work experience at Steinway And Sons I acquired skills in working as part of a team and interacting with colleagues to achieve a common goal.
What would you like to achieve from a work placement at Pinewood Studios Group?
From a work placement with Pinewood Studios Group I hope to learn about various stages in the creative process of film and television production. With knowledge I could acquire it would help me understand the requirements demanded of a film composer and inform me of how to react to different dramatic situations. I hope to achieve a good understanding of how studios are maintained and used throughout various stages of production. Overall I believe a work experience placement would prove valuable in providing me with a basis to start to build a career through combining my two greatest passions, film and music.

PERSONAL STATE MENT
Please provide any further information you feel would support your application.
My enthusiasm for film developed from a young age. Being in ore of the power of cinema, I wanted to understand the process of film making, with my main interest lying where my two passions combined - film music. Exploring further, I learnt how music and sound could be combined with visual images. Film music helps create and enhance sentiment in scenes in a way that words cannot. 'Hitchcock's Ear: Music and the Director's Art' by David Schroeder shows significant insight into the way music was used in some early classics like 'Psycho', where the incredible dramatic intensity of Bernard Herrmann's music has inspired me. Not only this but I learnt about the power of a lack of musical score, as in The Birds, where the ‘soundtrack’ saw the development of sound design. Following this I read the 'Complete guide to film scoring' by Richard Davis where I learnt how music in films evolved; from romantic orientated scores, to ones with jazz influences and the rise of technology.Subsequently I started to compose my own music to short video clips in a variety of styles. I composed music to the Omaha beach landing scene from Saving Private Ryan, taking inspiration for this from John Williams, whose romantic orchestral sound I greatly admire. Contrastingly, I composed music to Disney animated short BURN-E.I continue to compose and study film scores in my own time. Qualities and knowledge I have gained through my academic and non-academic studies I feel make me a good candidate for work experience at Pinewood Studios Group and with the opportunities it could provide excites me greatly.
