For me, at least, it was what I experiencedout- side of the curriculum. I remember earning ONE MnM back at the read- ing table in first grade if I tried my best when reading to my teacher. In second grade, it was having the opportunity to do a bulletin board. Third grade? Sitting on the floor with my teacher listening to her read Old Yeller and seeing her cry at the end. Fourth grade solicits a cool memory of earning a wipe outcertificate for doing my homework (I could choose one grade to wipe out of the grade book). Fifth grade was my first present from a boy (a cactus plant from a boy who just so hap- pens to be the current Governor of Indiana) and sixth grade brings mem- ories of a teacher who let us watch her dissect a cows eye. Did any of these experiences plant a seed to be an educator? PROBABLY! I mention all of this because I had a unique opportunity this week to host a student as Principal for the Day.Hudson earned this opportunity by being the top student, raising $275 during the PTO Walk-a-Thon. And did he stay busy! Hudson did breakfast duty, made coffee in the faculty lounge, visited classrooms, completed two teacher observations (yeshe provided written feedback to the teachers, which was THE BEST), completed a fire drill (complete with paperwork), prepped for next weeks E Learning Day, met with our Superintendent, met with our School Re- source Officer, and finished the day with bus duty. Either Hudson will grow up wanting to be a principal or he will be running far from it! Thank you to our PTO for managing a fundraising event that raised $11,311.00 and for providing this neat experience for the top student. We also very much appreciated the delicious lunch that our PTO Board provided. What a neat experience for us BOTH. When I one-day reflect on my career as an administrator, I have no doubt that experiences with my school-kids will be what I cherish the most. On a side note, another exciting event coming up is our PTO sponsored Carnival Night. Mark your calendars for Friday, November 15th! More detailed information will be coming soon. Thank you to all the students and families who supported our Fall Scholastic Book Fair! Thank you to all the parents who also volunteered time to help the students shop. We hope your kids are enjoying their new books! Mark your calendars for our Spring Book Fair, held from April 13-17, 2020. An optional Fall Break reading challenge will be sent home with all students this week. Students who participate in the challenge can earn prizes just for reading. Encourage your child to spend time over break reading. Did you know there are 23,040 minutes over Fall Break? Why not spend some of that time reading? Students can read to themselves, to someone else, or be read to.

Walkathon Wrap-Up! Our annual fundraiser has come to a close. We cannot possibly thank our Pine Tree friends and family enough for all the generous donations that made this year such a success. The following local businesses donated to our fundraiser as well. Please consider supporting their businesses in the future! Thank you to all family members who donated their time on the day of the Walkathon. It was a BEAUTIFUL day filled with smiling children! The kids had a blast from finding their Superhero Names, to the police officer demonstration, to the obstacle course, to “dunking” their teacher! Oh! and don’t forget the walking…well more like running, but who cares it was so much fun!
