Presidents Message May 2011
Well April came in like a lion and except for a few days
it appears to going out in a like manner. We were blessed with a
rainless day for the 78th annual Daffodil Parade were 20 PCMC
cars and one convertible loaned to us from Korum Ford-Lincoln
carried the Educators of the Year, Pierce County Executive
Pat McCarthy and her husband, the yellow Korum convertible
piloted by Matt Sparkmon carried Kristina Morgan and Brad
Envy the morning crew on 96.9 FM the Sound and a special
unit of members cars brought cheers and accolades from the throngs lining the
parade routes in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting. I have received many
thanks from the Daffodillians on PCMC help again this year with all of our converti-
bles and also all of the cool Mustangs we motored and roared through the streets. If
you missed the parade, you can go to:
http://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?hid=7265 and click on the watch now tab
below the 78th Annual Daffodil Parade. The 4 different portions of the parade
featuring PCMC cars are; minute 9:30; 32:42; 39:57; 55:30 if you care to take
a peek or you can watch the entire parade. I‟d like to thank Puyallup Demolay
members Austin Collins, Logan Collins, Nate Devish, Jake Devish, Neelix Bricker,
Josh Cruz and their advisor Rob Collins, Council Chairman of the DeMolay Chapter
and Russ and Linda Yokes granddaughters Kendall Elifrits and Mackenzie Japhet
for doing such a fine job as our banner carriers. Also for those of us that are also
members of MCA, Bob Frender wrote up an article for an upcoming issue of
Mustang Times highlighting PCMC‟s involvement in our community by
participating in the parade.
The April meeting‟s guest speaker Jerry Korum not only gave a history
lesson of the Korum Automotive Group and its history from its humble beginnings
to today‟s Ford and Lincoln dealership, but also some his perspectives on commu-
nity, life and what one can accomplish. He was the consummate host providing
dessert goodies and refreshments for the meeting attendees and after his presentation
gave everyone a copy of Zig Ziglar‟s “ Little Book of Big Quotes”. Once again he
shows in his actions that Korum Automotive Group continues to be very supportive
of the Pierce County Mustang Club and I for one thank him for the continued
sponsorship and our partnership. Continued on page 2

I have set up a Photobucket site for storage and dispassion of photos and videos taken
by club members to link to our website and for us all to download photos and videos we have
specific interest in. An email was sent to members with the ID & Password so if you didn‟t
receive it or would like to get it sent to you again just drop me an email. I will have a brief
tutorial later in this issue to help you upload your media to this site.
There are a couple of new features to the website to assist members in seeing upcoming
events well into the future so we can all make our plans. These too will be highlighted in this
issue of the Pony News.
Just to toot our own horn I was contacted by Mustangs Northwest on how we have ac-
complished using a web based newsletter and other tech advantages to conduct our monthly
meetings and reducing the cost of printing , postage and paper. They were very impressed on
our methods and plan on instituting some of our methods into their club.
The Korum-PCMC Mini Show was blessed with clear weather except for a 5 minute
100 drop rain shower. Thank you To the 22 members who brought out their „stangs. Best in
show went to Ken Coatney, 1st to Jerry Murphy ‟70 Purple Heart coupe, 2nd to Allan Scott 2010
Shelby 500 GT and third to yours truly and my wife‟s „65 coupe.
Lastly, I‟d like to thanks MCA board member and PCMC member, Bob Frender for his
out of the box method of increasing our club members‟ membership in MCA. He handed out a
drawing ticket to every member who is not an MCA member and drew a ticket. The lucky
winner received a $50 check for their first year‟s membership to MCA. I sincerely hope that
Bob‟s idea catches on nationally to help MCA continue its support of regional clubs across
North America.

My interest for the mustang started when I was in high school. A friend of the family had a
1965 Mustang with the most beautiful black acrylic lacquer finish I have ever seen. The car
was always in the back of my mind of “some day”. Well in 2009 my wonderful wife gave
me the go ahead to get my dream. I had been eyeing the new series of Shelby GT500‟s
from when Ford first started talking about putting them out. I searched and found my 2010
GT500 pictured. I am so happy to be making memories with my son Noah. He has been
bitten by the car bug and has car pictures hanging all over his bedroom. I would like to
thank all the members for making the both of us feel so welcome, The events are so much
fun.

I want to thank all who participated in the Korum Mini Show. It was in my humble
opinion a big success even if we did not break the big total of 22 cars. There were 22
cars present on Saturday and a record 21 cars on Sunday. I hope all who attended had a
great time with provide food on Saturday by Korum Ford-Lincoln, but we had pizza on
Sunday as a group... great fun and great weather. Congratulations to all the winners of
the show, "Best of Show" went to Ken Courtney, "1st Place" to Jerry Murphy, "2nd
Place" to Allen Scott with "3rd Place" going to Paul Nee. There were presentations of
appreciations given to both Jeff Beaty and Jerry Korum of signed baseballs, by all those
in attendance, held by a glove on a stand. There was also a couple of prizes given out by
luck of the draw for being in attendance. With all the great attendance, great weather
and plenty of people dropping by to look and vote, the weekend was a fantastic event.
Look on the web site for pictures and thanks to all who sent pictures to me to put with
the few I took.

Enchilada Lasagna Recipe courtesy Alton Brown, 2006
Prep Time: 30 min Cook Time:1 hr 0 min Level: Easy Serves: 6 to 8 servings
Ingredients For sauce:
2 dried chipotle chiles, stems and seeds removed, diced
3 large garlic cloves, minced
2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons toasted cumin seeds, freshly ground
2 cups chicken broth
3 cups tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
For filling:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cubed
1 1/2 cups diced onion
Pinch kosher salt
1 large clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
12 (6-inch) corn tortillas
3 cups shredded queso fresco or Monterey Jack
Nonstick cooking spray
Directions Combine the chiles, garlic, chili powder, cumin, chicken broth, tomato sauce, salt and pepper in a medium sauce-
pan over high heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes or until the chiles are soft.
Set aside until ready to use.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Heat the vegetable oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Saute the chicken until cooked through, ap-
proximately 7 to 9 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and place in a medium bowl. Add the onions to the
same pan along with a generous pinch of salt, decrease the heat to medium-low and sweat for 4 to 6 minutes. Add
the garlic and oregano and cook until the onions are tender, 2 to 3 minutes more. Add the chicken back to the pan
and remove from the heat.
Spray a 13 by 9-inch glass baking dish with non-stick spray. Place 1/2 cup of the sauce into the bottom of the dish.
Dip 4 tortillas into the remaining sauce and lay them into the bottom of the dish. Cut 1 of the tortillas in half to
evenly cover the bottom of the dish. Top this with half of the chicken mixture and 1 cup of the cheese. Starting
with 4 more tortillas, repeat the layers, ending with the last 4 tortillas on top. Pour remaining sauce over the dish
and top with remaining 1 cup of cheese.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven on the middle rack for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an
additional 10 minutes, or until cheese on top is bubbly.
Daffodil Parade
Page 14
Pony News May 2011
It was cloudy but no rain insight as Mustangers gathered to deck out their cars with flowers
prior to the start of the annual Daffodil Parade. The parade wanders through Tacoma, Puyallup,
Sumner and Orting making it an all day event. Eleven PCMC convertibles had the privilege to
carry the Teachers of the Year, each selected by the princess from the staff at her school. We
traveled right behind the Queen‟s float consequently no one in the crowd overlooked our beau-
ties. We even had one club mustang carry a County Executive and her husband. One Club
member was lucky enough to drive a brand new 2011 5.0 convertible, courtesy of Korum Auto-
motive Group, that carried the two radio personalities of radio station 96.9. Later in the parade
another unit of Mustangs from the club was featured. This time much to the crowd‟s delight
there was heavy revving of the powerful pony engines. Our thanks to the volunteers from the
local DeMolay: Austin Collins, Logan Collins, Nate Devish, Jake Devish, Neelix Bricker, Josh
Cruz and their advisor Rob Collins and also Kendall Elifrits and Mackenzie Japhet the grand-
daughters of PCMC members Linda and Rusty Yokes, who carried our club banners through
each city. It‟s nice to be young and not worry about tired feet as the end of the day.
April’s Featured Guest Speaker: Jerry Korum
Page 15
Pony News May 2011
Featured guest speaker at the April club meeting was Jerry Korum, CEO of Korum
Automotive Group. He generously provided all members not only with delicious baked goods
to nibble but also a choice of a latte, mocha or chai tea to sip as they learned the history behind
the establishment and growth of Korum dealerships. You could have heard a pin drop as Mr.
Korum also shared with members his own personal story of growth, philosophy of life and his
perspective on what giving to the community, family and one‟s self means. He then proceeded
to invite one and all to give him a call if they ever needed someone to talk to about anything,
ranging from cars to relationships. Mr. Korum finished off the night by passing out Zig
Ziglers‟s “Little Book of Big Quotes” to everyone. At the end of his presentation he was given
a standing ovation by all.
For many years Korum Automotive Group has hosted our monthly club meetings, un-
derwritten the Korum Mini Show and has been the main sponsor of our annual show and shine
to which PCMC is so very grateful and appreciative.
